I understand they made a lot of cuts to save costs but that makes this one of the most affordable EVs on the market and that’s very important for people like myself who can’t really afford a 45-60k car. Good review 👍🏽
I don't understand, why did they install the same window switches that everyone hates from the ID.4? I also dislike that there is no driver display, I cancelled my order over that. Great video though, thank you!

hi Dan, a couple of questions if you don't mind: 1. Does the EX30's 360 Camera system have a blind-spot mode? (e.g. in an Ioniq 5 when you signal left/right, the respective camera shows the blind spot on that side) 2. Has the camera resolution improved vs the low-res image on the C40/XC40 Recharge (especially in low light) 3. Are the buttons on the steering wheel backlit 4. Is there ambient lighting in the door storage area (front and rear?) 5. Does the driver seat have a memory function 6. With "One-pedal drive" off; does the EX30 regen on braking and can you adjust the regen intensity thanks!

Hey, I went to see the static car today at Vertu Exeter. It is a very nice looking car, well built and good quality materials. I hate the drivers window switch, having to 'toggle' front and back and Volvo have lost the plot re the centre console storage, or rather lack of it
Really detailed review thank you ! I ordered the basic version which is supposed to arrive in late March to Costa Rica. I have been waiting to watch the first test drive video so I will stay tuned for Nov 6th ! No regrets so far :)
While a HUD would've been nice, I agree that it would've made the interior wiring and installation more complicated, hence driving the price up more. What they should've done is just attach a small gauge cluster on top of the steering wheel, like the Zeekr X. That would still keep the same minimal dashboard design to keep things cost effective. In fact, I wouldn't mind going to Ultra if they added a small gauge cluster.
Great in depth review as usual! One question: can you use the voice command on the steering wheel for all tasks like adjusting temperature, opening glove box, closing mirrors etc? It would be very useful instead of having to go into the touch screen menu all the time. Thanks!

Im here in the U.S. and put a reservation in for one on the first day you could (launch day) and am patiently waiting for the embargo to lift for the driving reviews to start hitting the internet.... If it's not a nice drive (comfortable) then I might cancel my reservation.
Long range is 42K € for the lowest spec, not 50K. 45K and 48K for 2nd (Plus) and 3rd spec (Ultra). For the dual motor Performance it's 48 and 51K for Plus and Ultra respectively.

I don't think the speedo being on the middle will be that much of an issue. I tend to use the speed waze is reporting when driving down the motorway, and thats usually on a phone cradle in exactly the same position.
Phenomenal car and amazing pricing too… i can’t wait to see this in South Africa and it’s insane that in South Africa the price of the Mini Cooper SE it’s actually the same price of this upcoming Volvo EX 30😮 and with the Mini the range it’s even lower and the Mini obviously been much smaller as compared to Volvo especially given the fact it’s the same price … I think for me single motor will do just fine because the 344 range it’s really satisfying… 👏 All the EX30 range, wireless charging is it for one phone or two? And lastly, EX30 all range do they come with gloss black roof? Despite the colour?

Until then is embargo on talking about that. Depend what you need I would say as a general rule. If you don’t necessarily need fast speed and you need more range go with Extended Range it has 272HP which is more then ok!
Volvo EX30 in US, but no behind wheel driving or touching info touchscreen, met with Volvo USA rep. Impressed with exterior more than interior, too Tesla minimalistic.. Disagreed with rep, he said EX30 is a SUV, countered more like hatchback, which is fine, kind of cramped rear and interior appeared downgrade from Volvo quality and durability. Your thoughts, wife had a 1988 Volvo 240DL manual with over 350,000 miles, but attempted theft resulted totaled by insurance company because no ignition replacement last year. She likes XC40 recharge, says that’s a real Volvo!

Yes from what i remember they stay saved. Also you can create an user and save all settings you want 👍 Yea you can have the keycard around and will be fine and phone on wireless
Liked the video video. I got a small question though Does the Wi-Fi section offer hotspot through the integrated 5G or is it only for connecting the car to your own Wi-Fi network? Also could you mention anything about the Android version and how much storage the system says it has?
I could forgive the lack of driver display if there were a HUD, at least as an option. That soundbar probably prevented it from happening. Also would've liked an opening sun/moon roof and a shade for that giant hunk of glass. If it weren't for those I think I would jump on this

Claudia they claim that is UV protected and sun will be protected…. But dont expect to be like a normal roof. Even in my Model 3 and Model Y in summer can get hot inside because it is still a glass. You can buy an aftermarket cover for it or just add extra tinted windows over it at a special garage and will be better.

This is a fantastic review. It makes me more excited that I have a reservation. Question: where is subwoofer kept in higher end sound system? Couple big misses by Volvo: heated rear seats, rear passenger climate control and vents.

The only thing what I don't like of this car are the huge bezels on the tablet. C'mon Volvo that was not needed since you don't hold that thing in your hands. They should've made it also horizontal.
They made it vertical for a reason. I have seen Volvo reps say that they believe they could remove the driver display because the top of the tablet which contains the speed is eye level
@@pauld3327if you have a horizontal screen, if your driving settings are along the top it means you will have very little height left for your maps etc… if the essential car information is on a side it would mean scanning your eye a lot lower to see this key information, also moves away from the central alignment this car strongly features
The tablet looks like something from 2015..there's just no need for a screen that looks as outdated as that. I'm holding a 2 year old phone right now with a 2mm bezel.
I have a Niro EV (second gen). I like this class of car for my needs, so I’ve been watching the EX-30 as a potential upgrade, along with the Kia EV3. This video revealed quite a bit for me. Volvo committed way too hard to trying to emulate Tesla. Volvo being known for being safety conscious, it’s super weird they built a car wrapped around a tablet rather than focusing on driver experience. Putting the car information out of easily glanceable view of the driver is just not good, and the reasoning provided here is dubious. Additionally, putting almost all of the controls in the tablet display is horrible user experience. Car reviewers have been saying this for years. Drivers need controls they can feel. The ONLY safe way to manage controls on this car is literally pulling over so the driver can take their eyes off the road and put them on the touch interfaces. I had to go look up if CarPlay would be supported, and it looks like it’s there, but not really firm information there. I’m no longer excited about this car. I like my Kia. The Niro EV is not on the E-GMP system, but it shares the same VCU and navigation setup, and it’s mostly well designed. It’s primarily lacking in the software department. The EV3 will be in this class but built on E-GMP. Basically, a smaller EV6. These car makers should stop trying to beat Tesla by outdoing Tesla, and focus on their history and their heritage in car design and manufacturing. The EX-30 feels like a departure from good Volvo design.

here in Mexico it will only go up to the ultra extended range version that achieves 0 - 100 in 5.3 seconds RWD and only one engine

Agreed. Love HUD. Don’t really care for the traditional location of the Speedo cluster…too low.

The dual motor 0-60 is absurd. For most people that kind of acceleration is not necessary, but it would still be fun to have that in a family car

Sound system is great- Harman Kardon. I test it and it was good quality. 1050W 9 speakers and subwoofer in the trunk on right side.

On the harman sound system its states that there is a subwoofer in the trunk. Where was it?

you didn't mention the option that is lower range and single motor which is a lot cheaper than the extended range or dual motor versions

I got to see the car up close and the quality is very nice.
Really disappointing and unsafe that it doesn’t have a speedometer directly in front of the driver. Instant deal breaker for me.
Can you have a normal key instead of this card to open the car? I'm really not convinced of the purpose of these cards.
You can use also the phone to open it
Do you have to put the key card in the wireless charging tray? I don’t want to have to take my key or phone out to access the car.

If you turn of one pedal driving, does it have creep? Ie the car moves forward when you let go of the brake pedal, similar to an ICE vehicle.

The only thing what I don't like of this car are the huge bezels on the tablet. C'mon Volvo that was not needed since you don't hold that thing in your hands. They should've made it also horizontal.

They made it vertical for a reason. I have seen Volvo reps say that they believe they could remove the driver display because the top of the tablet which contains the speed is eye level

@@pauld3327if you have a horizontal screen, if your driving settings are along the top it means you will have very little height left for your maps etc… if the essential car information is on a side it would mean scanning your eye a lot lower to see this key information, also moves away from the central alignment this car strongly features

I have a Niro EV (second gen). I like this class of car for my needs, so I’ve been watching the EX-30 as a potential upgrade, along with the Kia EV3.
This video revealed quite a bit for me.
Volvo committed way too hard to trying to emulate Tesla. Volvo being known for being safety conscious, it’s super weird they built a car wrapped around a tablet rather than focusing on driver experience. Putting the car information out of easily glanceable view of the driver is just not good, and the reasoning provided here is dubious.
Additionally, putting almost all of the controls in the tablet display is horrible user experience. Car reviewers have been saying this for years. Drivers need controls they can feel. The ONLY safe way to manage controls on this car is literally pulling over so the driver can take their eyes off the road and put them on the touch interfaces.
I had to go look up if CarPlay would be supported, and it looks like it’s there, but not really firm information there.
I’m no longer excited about this car.
I like my Kia. The Niro EV is not on the E-GMP system, but it shares the same VCU and navigation setup, and it’s mostly well designed. It’s primarily lacking in the software department. The EV3 will be in this class but built on E-GMP. Basically, a smaller EV6.
These car makers should stop trying to beat Tesla by outdoing Tesla, and focus on their history and their heritage in car design and manufacturing. The EX-30 feels like a departure from good Volvo design.
