- From my VHS recordings, here is the commercial breaks that aired during an episode of "Law and Order" on May 17th, 2000. Specifically, the episode that aired here was "High and Low", a premiere episode near the end of the 10th season.
There isn't clear bumpers at the start or end of commercial breaks for NBC Prime Time shows (so all the commercial breaks blend together here). Still, I like the "Early 2000's" aesthetic that was emerging around this time (as seen in many of the commercials here).
Included here:
1. Dodge Caravan commercial (the recording starts halfway into this commercial).
2. Budweiser beer commercial (promoting "ask for ID")
3. Buick Century (luxary car) commercial
4. "Thermasilk" conditioner commercial
5. Walmart "Rollback" commercial
6. Taco Bell commercial (featuring "New Nachos Supreme" promotion). This is one of the last commercials featuring the "Yo quiero Taco Bell!" chihuaha mascot (the pop culture sensation of the late 90's). The line of commercials featuring the chihuahua was discontinued in July of 2000 (so this commercial here in May 2000 is one of the last, or possibly the very last).
7. Thursday NBC primetime line-up promo (advertising the season finale's of "Friends", "Frasier", and "ER").
8. "Law and Order: SVU" Season 1 finale promo
9. Dr. Pepper commercial (featuring NASCAR contest promo)
10. Pizza Hut commercial (featuring "The Edge" specialty pizza)
11. James Bond "The World is Not Enough" VHS/DVD release promo
12. Apple "iMac" computer commercial
13. "You're watching Law and Order" bumper
14. NBA playoffs commercial (Lakers vs. Trail Blazers). The Lakers would win that round of the playoffs (it would go a full 7 games).
15. "The Rainmaker" commercial (a promo for NBC airing the 1997 film). This is the OTHER movie starring Matt Damon in 1997 (the main one being "Good Will Hunting", which came out in December of 1997 and which truly launched Damon's career).
16. Lex18 news promo (featuring a story on a drought and a blurb about the "Railway Killer", a seriel killer caught in 1999 and who's trial was occurring at the time in Texas. A couple of "University of Kentucky" students were vicitms of the killer, which is why the story was relevant to the Lexington KY news market).
17. Lex 18 "Storm Tracker Weather" promo
18. "ToyotaCentral.com" website promo
19. "Kentucky Utilities Company" promo (a local advertisement)
20. Lex 18 News promo
21. Another Lex 18 promo (referencing the drought story)
22. Coors Light commercial
23. Discover Card commercial (featuring "How Credit Cards work" information promo)
24. Pond's "Age Defying Lotion" commercial
25. The "Taco Bell: New Nacho Supreme" commercial (again)
26. "Sprint PCS" phone plan commercial
27. "Fannie Mae Foundation" commercial (noteworthy when you realize the 2007/2008 mortgage crisis, which Fannie Mae played a large part of, was just a few years away)
28. "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" commercial (with a promo for "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" as well)
29. "Frasier" Season Finale promo
30. "Law and Order" quick promo
31. Lex18 "Storm Tracker Forecast" promo
32. "Rhythms" Internet provider commercial (this company filed bankruptcy in 2001)
33. Almay "liquid stick" makeup commercial
34. "Gladiator" movie commercial ("now playing everywhere")
35. "DiGiorno" pizza commercial (with "Psycho" theme)
36. "ER" season finale promo
37. "Law and Order" season finale promo (yes, that's Peter Cullen narrating the promo)
38. "Law and Order" end credits (with "The Tonight Show" and Lex18 News promo).
39. Lottery Numbers advertisement (a notice of that night's winning numbers).
Commentary: I was really into watching "Law and Order" in the late 90's. This was when the show was at the height of it's popularity (this was around the time of the first season of "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" as well, showing the TV series was popular enough to support spin-offs). I stopped following the series around 2001 (and arguably it wasn't the same after the death of Jerry Orbach in 2004).
I was surprised to stumble across this random recording on one of my VHS tapes (most of my recordings were for animated shows during this era). This is the only episode i have recorded; I mostly just watched the show live when it was broadcast. Still, this makes for a nice time capsule of what NBC was like in the late Spring of the year 2000.
Stay tuned, more to come! - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Man, I miss the year 2000 so much. I wish I was back in that year again😢
