I watched Dan react to IGN's list of the ten best roguelites and just seeing a little FTL footage got me feeling the itch to dive back in to one of the genre's all-time classics. Check it out! - Hry
The one thing I love seeing NL do is the "Quick toggle" strat, in which he powers down a system to give the power to another despite having 1-2 unused reactor power.
His goals are beyond our comprehension
The Quantum Egg does calculations far faster and at a much higher level than normal humans are capable of. We are simply incapable of grasping it's impeccable logic clearly.
Eggman plays in mysterious ways.

I’d like to know where he even got the O2 idea from. The tooltip doesn’t even mention O2 to begin with and Rocks consume oxygen normally anyways.

I'm loving the FTL content and these longer videos. I don't know how long you'll stay pogged about playing 2012's hottest roguelite again, but I'm here for it every time.
The FTL episodes got me back on the daily NL train, and I'm not overstating that. I really love that he's visiting some of the classics his channel used to be built upon

@@-RTC- Based on Steam’s analytics, a LOT of people have been playing FTL lately, with a significant uptick right around when NL started streaming it again.
@@jamieyakimets839 that’s really cool, the devs of FTL deserve it. Do you know if they are planning on putting out FTL 2 at any point? I don’t even know if it needs it but I’ve always wondered if that was something planned.
@@-RTC- I don't think they're planning on it but it's worth checking out the Multiverse mod for ftl which adds enough for it to almost feel like FTL 2.
I feel like this is a missed opportunity to call this episode "the hardest ship"

My favorite part of each episode is NL pleading his friends to forgive him for being late for the next show. Makes me smile every time and goes to show he really loves the game.

Hey NL not sure if youll read this, but the idea for chase/no chase on the flagship fight is (I believe this comes from LethalFrag) - wait in the base for both phase 1 and 2, and chase for 3. The idea is that if you get a whole bunch of boarders in phase 3, you have a safe spot to fall back to (the base) and pick them off before fighting again. You don't have to always chase for 3 though, especially if you have already killed most of the crew. Also if you have a safe beacon away from base you could always fall back there instead.

if you run out of content you should lookup the multiverse mod its a pain to install but great added content.

@@lotnewlifewhy5190 i havnt used capain so i am not 100% on this but from what i have seen pretty much. multiverse adds ALOT of ships and guns and a few new races. it also adds elite crew members with active abilities. there is also a feature which makes it so you can upgrade the ship if you dont find an encounter within a node. this kind of makes agments obsolite however. to counteract this there are now combat augments which you can activate at a start of a fight alowing you to for example disable enemy cloaking in exchange for 3 reactor power that single fight.
@@lotnewlifewhy5190 I haven't played either, but I follow the modding scene a fair bit. Multiverse looks a lot like Captain's Edition, except it also takes advantage of newer modding infrastructure that allows you to get around hardcoded stuff in the base game. This means additional races without having to replace any of the old ones, a couple completely new augments as well as additional augments based on the vanilla ones, some QoL stuff, and unlimited extra ship slots without even having to override the existing ones.
Has it... been... done? The Flagship sleeps... and so... shall I...

For flagship, personally I never chase but I’m not a pro player. I think the argument for chasing on third is because of the boarding, so you can have a ton of people board you, jump back to base, kill them all then return to the flagship fight without the flagship having much in the way of crew (I think). I don’t know why you would chase on phase 2 because that’s just drones, so it doesn’t make much sense imo
Finally more FTL lets gooooooo. I was jonesing so hard I had to go buy it and play it for myself. Actually on sale rn. Pretty fun.

Since you asked, I think the reason you should or should not follow the flagship away from the base is because you don't want to jump away from the fight if you're at the base. So the answer depends on which phase you're more confident against. If you follow, you can't jump away on phase 3. If you don't, you can't jump away on phase 2.
Also, since I'm already backseat gaming: I generally don't ever target ion weapons at shields since they will hit the shields anyway if they're up, and you almost never want to hit the shields if they're already down.

Canonically it is. Even when you "rescue" slaves, there's always flavor text saying that you free them but they "choose" to help you with your mission.

I've actually had my doors hacked while being boarded, they trashed my medbay first, and I lost my whole crew lol
@@Cypress77 Well yeah, but the AI ships have no crew and can't do boarding. I suppose one could spawn with a boarding drone, but I haven't seen that yet, so when they hack my doors I'm left feeling simultaneously relieved and confused.

Federation Cruiser is god tier. I had my best FTL run in existence using the federation cruiser. It really does seem like i's just an improved Kestrel, and starting with 4 varied crew on the Osprey is pog af.

NL would rather let his crew repair a breach in a closed room with zero oxygen and then medbay them for 20 seconds instead of opening all doors on the ship and letting the O2 leak slower while it gets reparied

Getting cloaking 2 was your best play in your whole FTL career. I feel like I'm watching someone who knows to play to his strengths!
Level 2 cloak is wise redundancy. 2-power cloaking is foolish and nearly lost him the run, together with abandoning the cockpit and engine room to boarders when his evasion was null. That was a time to send everyone to fight and repair, not vacuum the half of his ship in need of urgent repairs during phase 3 flagship.
His first revisit victory turned out a fluke.

1:48:48 1-power cloak for fastest recharge; shortest duration is all you need. 2-power cloak and abandoning the engine room when your ship's parked mid fight very nearly cost you the run.
1:49:44 Stunned defense drone still shoots down the hack drone and then misses its shot on the 2nd hack drone when it's no longer stunned. Two outcomes I thought impossible.
