I think you’re taking this a little too far. Lola also has her hangups on love and commitment, which is why she didn’t say it back despite loving him. When she goes to confess that she does love him, but it’s hard for her to get the words out because everyone she loves has left her, then Jay leaves.
I never even considered Lola and Jay as a couple but when they got together it was surprisingly adorable (aside from the feet licking) and they’ve become one of my favourite couples on the show. Istg they’d better get back together in season 5. But considering they were together in the future in the Nick Starr episode gives me hope even though that was technically a dream.

We expect someone to reciprocate those feelings that we feel and when it didn't happen, it's devastating and long-term repercussion. On the other side of the coin, the other person is protecting themselves by not revealing what they really feel or not feeling.
I've been in Lola's place many times in past relationships where the current boy I was dating would say "I love you" to me and while I could say it through a text I couldn't bring myself to physically say it because I've been hurt in the past. Also 9/10 times it was said was too early in the relationship, like personally I think a couple should at least be dating for about a year before they know if they truly love each other or not.

They make a beautiful power couple who can fight crime & stuff. They're craziness just makes sense together.. I hope they make up next season. And Lola can be more sensitive with him. They're just kids rn, but they can be so amazing. Like a parkour and skydiving kinda couple. 💕💕
