I am glad this shows she tried doing something nice for Penelope.
She should have listened to Penelope about how much she hated the color, but choosing a happy color for her daughter shows she cares a little.

Did anyone notice that Kate’s hairstyle changed according to her feelings towards Antony? When she arrived, she had perfect buns and no loose ends as she was on alert and clear with what she wanted. Slowly as she falls for Antony, her hair loosens and her look becomes more and more softer… especially when she feels vulnerable, when her hair is left open. In Season 3, all the looks till now show her softer, romantic and more feminine side; including her hairstyle!

    • @mitsycat2803

True. When she first meets him, her hair is down. That is before she begins to dislike him. She is open to him. Her hair when they are in the library.... down. And so on. Every single moment she seems to actually acknowledge her feelings towards him in any way, her hair is down even after her fall. She might be rejecting him in that moment, but not because she doesn't love him. She does at that point and she knows it. Good point.

That's reading a bit too much into why Penelope's dress is green and is kind of wrong. It's actually foreshadowing that the new season will be about Penelope becoming her own person finally--while Penelope is initially associated with yellow, she becomes associated with green in her and Colin's book as she begins choosing her own dresses, particularly green being flattering on her. So saying the color is bc she's marrying a Bridgerton is a bit undermining to her arc--green represents Pen coming into herself. The fact that blue + yellow = green is coincidence (a nice one but still coincidence).

but the same thing happened with kate in season 2. The Sharma‘s family color is light pink, while the Bridgerton is mainly blue. Kate then starts wearing dark and light purple dresses, while Edina stays wearing pink. so I don’t think the color theory for Penelope is that far off/a coincidence.

Lady Danbury wears gold because her husband's favorite color was gold. Penelope dressed like a citrus fruit because her Mother thought those to be happy colors and it would land her a man. When she wears flattering colors it's because her mom gives up on her getting a man and Penelope is a spinster chaperone for her younger sisters now getting pick clothes for herself.

I‘m not quite sure if I get your link to Eliza Doolittle. For me Eliza is a hardworking intelligent woman who takes chances and transforms her life without loosing her heritage as a flower girl, hence the flowers in her dresses. And the story is about emancipation and hypocrisy of men.
So using Eliza as a reference for the use of costumes for storytelling and characterization, definitely yes. But I’m not sure about “hating societal standards and pushing for a difference”, as Eliza does try and want to fit in but wants to be recognized and respected as equal. Which kind of fits Eloise to be fair. That’s how I would understand it.
But I really do like bridgertons use of costumes to “show and not tell”, it creates a kind of secret language that makes it very interesting to look at.

I appreciate historical accuracy, but I won't demand it. My issue with the costumes in Bridgerton was how horribly fitted they were. The waist was supposed to be under the bust, but almost every character had their breast smashed across the underboob instead. Some people say it was only Penelope who had ill-fitting dresses, and that it had some underlying meaning. But that is just not true, Daphne, Eloise, Violet, and Kate, neither of them had enough space for their bosom. I blame time issues. The costume team probably had 5 minutes per dress and was obliged to create 5 million dresses. It's such a shame since Daphne's dresses were all identical. They could have sewn a third of the dresses and actually sewn them well as well as unique instead. They had such a massive budget, it's truly saddening

I hope those costumes are reused or given away to the cast and staff cause it’ll be such a waste for beautiful gowns to just sit there and collect dust

Most of this dresses like Bridgerton Ladies dresses are classic from romantism, so it is accurate because the plot is happening in regency era. Queen dress is absolutely not from that period, it is fully baroque, which is weird and odd, I don't if just producer don't have the knowledge or is it on purpose maybe?

When do Brigeton lift breasts of main characters to show them higher ( bottom of breasts lifted to armpit level for example and other times at normal level? Even Violet's were higher in season1. This does not for always for balls but everyday life? Thanks

Penelope was always the best dressed person in the whole show. I looked greatly forward to seeing what she'd be wearing. Her dresses were gorgeous also her frosty pink. Or combinations of both. Love the yellow dresses. ❤

Critiquing the costumes of a fictional show, an alternative universe regency era, is so dumb. Like??? News on our media isn’t a hundred percent accurate either. They present it to paint whatever narrative there is that would benefit specific parties. Why not focus the critique on that and leave details like this to the creative freedom of a show where there’s a black queen, black woman being the most influential individual in society, a black duke, indian viscountess and a viscount played by a gay man.
