'69 LINCOLN MARK III SLEEPER WAKES UP '18 CHEVY SS 1LE CAMARO! VINTAGE VS MODERN! BYRON DRAGWAY!

  • Got to love seeing an unusual vintage luxury car coming into the dragstrip and end up surprising everyone! Wisconsin resident Christopher Onsgard drove the light green '69 Lincoln Continental Mark III to Illinois to try his luck at Byron Dragway. This 4980 lb behemoth is powered by a pump gas street/strip 598 c.i. Big Block Ford with Trick Flow heads and dynos at over 800 ftlbs of torque. The engine was spec'd out and built by
the late Jim Kuntz of Kuntz & Company race engines. Shifting is handled via a C6 transmission built by Denny's Auto Center in Janesville Wisconsin. The car has 3.50
Ratio Strange Engineering 9" with S-Trac. Christopher paired up twice against a somewhat modifed '18 6.2 Chevy Camaro SS 1 LE and not only treed the camaro but left him in his dust both times. Not bad for his first time racing at Byron Dragway! #sleeper #lincolncontinentalmarkIII #modernmusclecar

Even with a hydraulic clutch,,, should be able to shift better than that. And though the Ford 460 was punched out another 140 cubic inches,,, they are both on pump gas
And at 4,800 lbs vs 3,300 lbs,,, it is not your standard matching up of putting two cars together to race quarter mile.

I have a 71 Mark III that I bought at 19. Cracked the heads racing a late 90's vette.
Still own it and hope to restore it to something similar one day.
