- Got to love seeing an unusual vintage luxury car coming into the dragstrip and end up surprising everyone! Wisconsin resident Christopher Onsgard drove the light green '69 Lincoln Continental Mark III to Illinois to try his luck at Byron Dragway. This 4980 lb behemoth is powered by a pump gas street/strip 598 c.i. Big Block Ford with Trick Flow heads and dynos at over 800 ftlbs of torque. The engine was spec'd out and built by
the late Jim Kuntz of Kuntz & Company race engines. Shifting is handled via a C6 transmission built by Denny's Auto Center in Janesville Wisconsin. The car has 3.50
Ratio Strange Engineering 9" with S-Trac. Christopher paired up twice against a somewhat modifed '18 6.2 Chevy Camaro SS 1 LE and not only treed the camaro but left him in his dust both times. Not bad for his first time racing at Byron Dragway! #sleeper #lincolncontinentalmarkIII #modernmusclecar
Man does that Lincoln ever launch nice, great weight transfer and lots of it!
That was my first thought as well! Perfect launches.
Bet that guy in the Camaro was speechless . Cool Lincoln and great video !
Thanks! 👊
Absolutely
@@victoryredcolorado ...no, thank you.
We took the most comfortable couch we could find and built a dragster around it!
Even the burnout was smooth!! Matthew McConaughey would sum it up with:
Alright, alright, alright!!!
Well that's the coolest thing I've seen in a long time.
I know right? Street/strip full on sleeper put some dust caps on some steelies and no one would have any idea, apart from the sound, but if it had cutouts or mufflers yknow total sleeper
I grew up with a mark 3 as the family car, brings back so many memories, beautiful cars,
You can't out shift those automatics
Word for word what I was thinking
Ditto I had the same thoughts. That Lincoln was one of mercury's better achievements in its timeframe.
Grandpa's true hot Rod Lincoln. 😂 Lives today. Even in the automotive world, old mans cars, can still take in the youngins, and beat them. This makes my heart beat fast. Love it.
LOVE IT!!! Old School sleeper at its finest, nobody would've ever guessed that love boat sailed on land! Nicely done...
Carol Shelby summed it up well ;
" Horsepower sells cars but torque wins races."
👍 My favorite of the Lincoln Mark series
I remember in the 70s, my mom's 69 Lincoln with the 460 had no problem beating the z28s ,miss those days.
The 69’ and some 70’ 460 engines were hand built using selected fits.
@Sam LaVerne love for 429 them are a badass engine they was in them Torino’s that a guy that would beat me when I was a teenager thought I beat him on the backroad with a 350 sbc boy did he take me to school lol I’m 49 now 👍
I had a 70 Plymouth Fury 1 440 police pursuit and a 71 Ford Custom 4 door police spec 429 N code that I used to send the Z28 and Trans Ams home crying back in the late 70s and early 80s. So I know that great feeling. I used to out run em by a lot roll on racing to top end on the interstate too. Bye bye
Wow, the driver of that Lincoln handled that car beautifully. Straight down the line perfectly.
Agreed. He seemed more experienced than the Camaro driver.
I'm a GM fan but that Hot Rod Lincoln is just bad ass! Love the body lines of that gen. Low ET + low trap speed = significant low gearing I imagine. I actually wanted the Camaro to get beat. Good job!
I’m a Chevy guy, but I loved it.
Heavy metal, kickin’ azz and taken names!
DAMN! Hot rod lincoln walked away from him like he was standin' still! 🤣👍
Yeah because he was. Nearly a second late. Same speed at the quarter tho.
Those Lincoln's always have had a classic style that I dig. I like the hard launch cool car! Definitely not a Lincoln log.
True. Probably the nicest Continental they ever made. And this one is crazy !
Oh to get your butt kicked by a 50 yr. old luxury car...that must've hurt!
Not really, Chevy owners should be used to finishing last at this point.
That comment hurts even MORE!
🤣🤣🤣🤣

I would if it were a stock Lincoln. Once you get into modifications, brands, models, and age are irrelevant. What you put into it becomes the defining fact.
Bow tie guy shows up to eat dinner but, the big stinkin Lincoln made'em eat a whole mess of humble pie by gapping him, not once....but twice! Gotta luv it. LOL!!
That's the sound I would like. Quiet but lethal.
The best thing in life for us for guys is beating Brand X with a sleeper
I had a '69 Mk III years ago, fast and eerily silent. I.loved that car...
...mad props. That Lincoln is straight about business.
Ricky Bobby said it best. “That just happened!”
Damn, that land yacht straight up embarrassed the Camero.lmfao.i love it.
My Pappy said son your gonna drive me to drinking if you don’t stop driven that Hot Rod Lincoln
Got to love a BBF😍😍
That reaction time and launch.
A Lincoln that will hook and book
And I bet the ride was still smooth like sailing calm ocean waters
I’d definitely go and trade in that camaro for a hot rod Lincoln...Great video!
Thanks! 👊
yup that was a good one!!
WOW! LOVE THAT LINCOLN! It's gorgeous in addition to being super fast!
Ooohh, someone's feelings got hurt!
Love the smooth sexy body lines , the Lincoln is quiet and subtle.
Such a crying shame that FoMoCo no longer produces such a sexy car.
Back in the day, I had a 1970 Mk3. One of my favorite cars of all that I ever owned. NOTHING on that car was light. Nothing! Makes the quickness really amazing.
Cruising down the road with style and balls love your Lincoln I've had a 72 Mark 4 now I want a Mark 3.
These Mark III's are very quick actually. The stock ones had very respectable 0-60 times, and there is another currently running 10.20's, aiming for the 9's.
🍻
Gotta love the BBF, that big iron is hard to beat
she was badass always loved the body style that year Lincoln
Fuuuuuuuudge that thing launches hard! Classy ride.
Sweet to see that ole lincoln smoking the 18 Camaro
1969-71 Mark III are awesome!
Cars don’t look beautiful like this anymore
*The Land of Lincoln indeed!*
love them old lincolns mark 3s
Meanwhile...
Everyone is sleep’ in on the fact,
it has a FORD ENGINE & REAR DIFF!
👉🏽White dudes taught me that shit👨🏼🎓
I miss my triple black 69 Mark III sooooo damn much.
I made good money when I sold mine.
This is what real beauty looks like
Thumbs up on the Lincoln . It's using all that weight to hook up nicely 👌
The white wall tires on the front make it really cool. The perfect street sleeper.
Hate to meet up with that at a red light!
My dad would be proud because he had 1971 with a big 460 cub inch, that baby was fast look at that Mark 3 go💨😎👍🇺🇸
My favorite was my uncles 64' Lincoln with a 460 rat motor. Love what this owner has done. Wheels hooked up flawlessly and the weight transfer excellent. Great setup and beautiful car!!!
They came with a 9.75 rear end the big thunder bird too 460 4 barrels carb. Limited slip gears with c-6 trans. The good old days.
It's the perfect way to hide a sleeper, in something country club classic. Very cool and an incredible cruiser as well.
Glad to see more mark 3 hot rods! Just got done with my 521 build in mine. So much fun, and surprises so many people! I hope people start saving more of these cars.
That much power he should have been very close both races even with the extra weight, but he sure drove it well.
.01 difference in each of their runs, gotta love consistency 👍🏼
All I can say is get you some of that
This Lincoln would definitely be fitting for the song "Hot Rod Lincoln"
Now that's a sleeper. Quick reference to an HP calculator puts that big block monster at way over 600HP at the rear wheels, almost a 200HP advantage on that 1LE.
Over 2000lbs over weight you still gotta complain.
love that low stance disappearing quickly leaving that camaro behind
🤘😎
came here cause i found a 69 mark3 triple black someone was restoring. out of all the cars ive seen lately, i gotta say the mark3 has my eye now. low, wide, power, style 🍻
LMAO! That is Fantastic...Love it!
Haha. love it. I know a lot of these new camaros drivers are sure they're the deal.
A Chevy Camaro vs a luxury tricked out hot rod Lincoln Mark III. Results I feel good and several decades younger
priceless.😅
There is alot of REALLY good work done to that Lincoln. Beautiful car, done right!
Nice consistent launches, considering the weight and how narrow those rear tyres are that’s a very respectable ET.
Big girl made a meal out of Camero, left NO CRUMBS! 😎👍❤️🔥🛠️🏁
That's what you call a sleeper!! Absolutely love this 69 Mark lll. Looks great and goes fast, nothing wrong with that.
I just acquired one as a barn find I am slowly putting it together, I only hopes mind could look that good!
Just perfect light reaction... This wins the race more than anything..
Love the vinyl top. Closing the headlights might make it more aerodynamic.
Love them old Lincolns, and love this hot rod Lincoln even more. Bad ass!
Damn - that Lincoln left hard and ran straight. Nicely done.
If you want to beat new Chevrolets you just got to go back 50 years and run old Ford v8s there you go
Always Have And Always Will.......Fords Were My Choice Over All When I Was A Kid
I’m pretty sure a 598 cubic inch motor was never in a 50 year old Ford back in the day
True
First On Race Day!! FORD
I gotta 52 F-1 with a 239
Flat head. She's like me,
slow n steady. lol
Great Video.
Yessir, YOU have done it again. Thank you for capturing another AMAZING vehicle to share w/ us.
Thanks!👊
@@victoryredcolorado 👊🏻
Wow! So cool to see a family luxury boat destroy a ls crapmaro. Lol...
It would be cool if these was a Ls CAMARO in this video but there is not.
Lol that Lincoln wouldn't beat my Ls Camaro
@@02WIFE dont kid yourself
@@indy69541 I would drag that lincoln down the track
@@02WIFE,,, still, ya gotta give credit to where credit is due. Eleven,,, excuse me,,, Twelve second quarter isn't too bad for a newer kind of Camaro,,, though it did lose way too much time shifting. Even with a hydraulic clutch,,, should be able to shift better than that. And though the Ford 460 was punched out another 140 cubic inches,,, they are both on pump gas
And at 4,800 lbs vs 3,300 lbs,,, it is not your standard matching up of putting two cars together to race quarter mile.
Just two guys having fun on any Sunday ,,,
Dude in the Lincoln been down the track before! Right on! Awesome share. Thank you
That's what I call a hot rod Lincoln, I swear it looked like it lifted a front tire, and thru the mufflers
Pretty close!
Awesome Lincoln those launches are amazing stretching out front coils and not just the first 60ft either. Really got the suspension dialed in hooking up hard.
Complete with 5 lb. factory power antenna (in the up position) and all the stainless trim. Well done !!!
Oh, look everyone it's a Chivy. What we need is a Lincoln.
Quick, but more importantly deadly consistent! Wow.
That is Very Nice! Have owned Big Block Fords in the past, Fun to drive! Thanks for the video!
In my early years ... 1976... I was 27 yrs. old and had 70 Mk lll and a big honkin 70 Continental 4 dr. Land yacht. The Mklll was my favorite for everyday use. I really miss that car. Those 460 motors had a sweet rumble .... nice and low to let everyone know that you had a really Big Block motor. Oh in 1977 igot tid of the yacht and bought a 71 Mk lll for peanuts.... when gas went WAY UP nobody was interested in the gas guzzlers. Ha ha!!! Richard 71 yrs young and missing those glory days.... stay safe....
Those were very fast Lincoln's back in the day..
Those were the days a Lincoln had style ,not like today's sucked jelly beans.
Great combination of style & speed.
Dude! That boat is SCREAMIN'!!! Nice build!
The Linc left on Sunday, Camaro waited until Monday.
Set up any old Ford with old prostock running gear and you can do same.
Bahahaaha that dude was PISSED in that camaro lmfao ..great Car man always loved em ...from my era ...light and love friends
It looked like it wanted to wheelie! Cool car!
That was AWESOME!!!
Beautiful old Mark, moves out on that late model without hesitation, good driver too !!!
Lincoln should use this as an ad.😂
Camaro recieved an education.
As I daily a 78 LTD, you've made me a very proud Ford driver today. 😊👌
Reminds me of that song HOT ROD LINCOLN , it blow that Cameo away 👍
He turned a Lincoln in to a muscle car. Camaro looks like it's not moving.
Smoke in got SMOKED
Off the line, there is no substitute for cubic inch displacement!
"My Pappy said son you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop drivin' that Hotrod Lincoln"
I LOVE IT ! These Cars were Haulers even with the Stock 460 ! Spent 9 hours in a 70 from Vegas to Sacramento early 70s , Hella Nice Car to cruise in all day . Nice to see BIG Vintage Luxury Cars Haulin Ass ! You can have your SS Chevelles and your GTOs , I'll take this or a Grand Prix or Olds Starfire ANY day
That almost hollow sound of the fords always gets me, and I’m bow tie till I die.
Hey I'm a chevy guy but appreciate anything out of the ordinary thats fast n cool 😎
That's one hot rod Lincoln !!!!
I have a 71 Mark III that I bought at 19. Cracked the heads racing a late 90's vette.
Still own it and hope to restore it to something similar one day.
Awesome. And not just once. Spanked a second time as well..
Lol.
