The BMW M4 GTS just came out, and it's already highly controversial -- especially since it costs twice as much as a regular BMW M4. I borrowed this one to find out if it's worth it.

Sam Spahiu no, it needs to be driven. It's stupid when people have amazing cars and don't drive them. My dad daily drove a 1978 Porsche 911 SC twin plug for 11 years until he stopped a few months back and sadly sold her. Cars need to be driven to be enjoyed, not just sit there so you can make money on them! Cars are not going to be something to make money on, but to drive and enjoy!

I offroad in the jeep on my days off, and then need something to commute in that's better on gas and just in case I break the jeep. both are dirt cheap: bought them cheap, cheap to maintain, insure and drive.

Most people don't get it (despite it being such a simple fact). This is not a car you get instead of a regular M4 just because you have 65k $ more in your pockets. This is for BMW enthusiasts that have access to race tracks and-or like to collect such SE cars. There's a reason why it was limited to 700 cars.

I was about to post a comment similar to this. The point of this car is that it’s a track car that was made street legal not a street car that was modified for the track, hence the lack of luxuries in the car and the manual suspension adjustment kit. I dislike how people criticize it for it’s uncomfortable ride and low ride height, when the point of the vehicle isn’t to be a grocery getter. Finally someone understands that
killerfc909 Personally I feel like the M4 GTS is a better bang for your buck than the AMG GTR and the GT3 RS. It has nearly the same acceleration as the AMG and the GT3 RS is only .3 seconds faster than the M4 but costs $50k more. On top of that, the M4 is definitely going to become a collectors item (if it hasn’t already) due to the high performance and limited production numbers which may even raise the value of the car. It’s harder to say the same with the AMG GT and the GT3 RS

I saw someone in my town driving an M4 GTS on the road. Couldn't believe I actually saw one in person, let alone one that is owned by a neighbor. It's pretty sick in person!
thenigbigga I saw a guy drive a green amg gtr towards me in my neighborhood and couldn't believe how awesome it looked in person. It was so low to the ground and so different looking then any other car.
Auto blipper yes I’ve seen m3 m4 m6 driving around . I’ve even seen the mclaren 720s and huracan driving around my neighborhood And yea they stood out But this green AMG gtr, crazy. The pictures don’t do it justice at all.

The M4 GTS isn't just double the price cause of the extra mods, its expensive cause its a rare limited edition collector's car. Everyone can Mod their M3/M4 to make it as fast for way cheaper. But if that's all you care about then you're missing the point of why automakers make these cars.
The fact that it is only special b/c it is a limited run and has less to do with performance just shows how overpriced this car is where you are merely buying it for the badge. There is a def notice in performance when comparing the 911 range (in terms of 911 vs s vs gt3 vs turbo vs gt3rs)

The wheels look 100 times better on the grey body version/paint job. In fact I think the grey paint look heaps better than this white version. The grey and orange work really well together imo

You can easily mod your M4 to be JUST as fast and good as the M4GTS for less than 70K.

Lucas Diaz exactly! just modify the m4. u can get the same wing, rims, and splitter as well. For way less than an extra 70k. plus the regular m4 has Air conditioning and can be driven as a daily driver.
The m4 gts isn't meant to be a daily driver its supposed to be a track toy just like the gt3rs. People who buy these cars don't care about modding, you can mode any car to go faster but at the end of the day the M4 GTS due to it'r rarity and stock performance will be worth way more than a modified m4 in the long run. This car, the g3rs etc aren't for majority of the population.

Usually horsepower doesn't matter but I do agree with you horsepower does matter in cars like these that are dedicated for the track and those that have stripped down interiors.
They gave plenty more than just horsepower
and weight savings, aerodynamics, new injection system, roll cage etc
and that thing is street legal(maybe that doesn´t mean much for the us, but in germany thats a huge deal)
all that in a ridiculously small production line

keep in mind this is not meant to be a daily driver or a street car in general, its a track car than can get to the circuit on its own

This car is basically the epitome of extremely high maintenance. Everything is insanely expensive and some things are insanely vulnerable. But, I cannot deny that it's really fucking cool and I would own one if I could.

For 140k I would so pick Maserati Granturismo , one of the best looking car that screams success and richness and one the best sounds in the entire world if not the BEST sound.
Maserati GT is overrated, but exhaust sounds great. Oversaturated market for it. It leases for about $1,600 a month for a $140k car. The RS7 runs just over $2k to lease and is 120k; the i8 is $135k and leases around $1500; and the C63s is $85k and leases at just over $1,600 (yes, more than an i8 lol). Much better cars IMO than a Maserati GT, though I would pick any of the mentioned cars over an M4 GT

The hood latch is the same on my F80 M3 Competition Pack. I like the GTS but not for the additional cost. I like my heated leather (competition) seats and getting the extra GTS horsepower with a $700 tune.
I understand wanting a stripped down version of a luxury performance car to get more performance out of it. What I don't understand is taking things OUT of a car and then doubling the price.

The thing that made M cars so great was that you could live with them every day and still get excellent sports car performance when you want it. The M4 GTS compromises on almost everything that made M cars so great, and now it costs more than the Z06 Corvette, a Dodge Viper ACR, and Nissan GTR, and all of those cars whip the M4 GTS around a track. So no, the M4 GTS is definitely not worth $135k when compared to its competition.

Subaru WRX STI had the water spray button, 20-25 years ago. This isn't a new tech. It's race proven. Cooler air means more air, means more burn, means more power.
Ferrari F40 and other track type cars have cloth door pulls.
Doug is right, this is an M4 for those people who want that next step above an M4.

If you want the next step over an M4, get a Corvette Z06 for much less money that absolutely and completely destroys the M4 GTS on any track in the world. And the Z06 is a better street car at the same time.
Vernon Price What is the interior of the Corvette like? Unless Corvettes have come a long way their interiors used to be low rent.
They're really nice now. Highly encourage you to check them out. And yes, prior to the C7 model, Corvette interiors were shit. The C7 is an entirely different beast, MUCH more like a "real car" than previous models.

If you're put off by the price, have a look at the new M4 CS - it has a lot of the same features as the GTS and has more power over the base M4. It's not as expensive as the GTS (not cheap either) and definitely worth a look at.
I don’t even have to watch this video to know that the M4 GTS is worth all the money. It’s a purpose built car, not a jack of all trades.

Main distinction between this and the porsche gt3 is that the gt3 has a bespoke powerplant.. Also, the 911 is a sports car, so a track model makes sense. the Bmw 3/4 are sports sedans, so a track model makes less sense

I'm not buying it. Porsche gives you an entirely different engine at each performance tier in the 911 range. The Carrera GTS has 80 more hp than the base Carrera, and the GT3 has 50 more hp than the GTS and is way more hardcore. The M4 GTS's performance is on par with the base Carrera, yet costs as much as the GT3 (and is equally as compromised as the GT3 for everyday driving).
The difference is everybody can buy a base Carrera, only 700 M4 GTS available.
I don't care if it's 700 made, 350 made, 125 made. I'm not going to buy a car just because of it's "limited production". I'll buy for value in the package. And this GTS is junk in that regard.
This junk will probably rise in value as most limited production runs do, while a mass production car will depreciate quickly. If you want to have a rare car without losing too much money, you should go with the M4 GTS. If you want a car, get the Porsche.

The M4 GTS price is all in the suspension not the motor. That’s what you’re spending all the money for. You can make a regular M4 as powerful as GTS with a flash but it won’t handle as well on a track. You’re talking about a car that comes with a roll cage ffs

What BMW has created here is a Collectors car. Can you get a better preforming car for for the same price? Yes! take for example the 2017 GTR, its faster and more "luxurious" then this shitt bucket. The M4 GTS is in all definition a collectors cars, where 15-20 years down the road will be worth soo much more due to its limited production.

Come on Doug…the hood release is awesome. Instead of pulling the release inside the cabin and then having to go out and fumble for the latch under the hood that you can’t see. You simply pull the one inside twice and the hood is free to raised with no more steps.

I saw on of these lapping the Nürburgring last autumn, while gt3s and gt3 rs were on the track. The sound was amazing! And also the fact that the driver was overtaking Porsches like no problem. The coolness probably is due to the weirdness of it. You wouldnt expect Bmw to make this car, like you expect gt3..

The reason for the exhaust is because BMW pumps "exhaust noise" through the speakers of their M cars. They do this because and I quote, "people may forget what car they are driving so we have to remind them with faux noise in the interior"

To be honest, I love the design of the M4 GTS. BMW designed it to be a good track car, but sadly, also due to it´s limited production, this car will most likely end up in garages of collectors.
