That's funny. I was just watching True Lies and that scene came on, and I was already on the computer, so I found the song to listen. During the dance scene though, I quit typing with my hands.
O wow, this song helped me through the night..kicked out by some woman..I could return to sleepon the attic..hiding my booze in some army boots I still kept listening to this song with my headphones all the way back in 2013, this song was performed in the good year 1987..ultimate brilliancy
It's a lonely picture Of an empty glass It's a still life study Of a drunken ass And he howls at the moon Hoping the sun don't come up too fast I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone on my knees at last Alone in the dark It's extreme self pity And frozen fear 'cause I want you with me And you're not here So I rub my nose in it babe Til the roses smell just like death I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone and drawing whiskey breath Alone in the dark My head is spinning baby what went wrong I swear to god I tried Just turned around one day and you were gone Now these tears I have to cry Alone in the dark baby, I'm all alone, I'm all alone, I'm all alone Since the night you left I just couldn't stand myself anyway I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone on my knees at last Alone in the dark I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone in the dark now baby I'm all alone on my knees at last Alone in the dark
looks like Hiatt's playing in E or B, Sonny would be open D or A. Not sure what tunings he uses, but that would be my guess. As good as he is , Cooder gave it a little more bottom, or the bass needs a little more oomph
Great you all using the same words as I would use for this song: bad-ass, kickass, funkin' hot song. All alone in the dark, drawing whiskey breath. From the album Bring the family, with Ry Cooder on guitar. In this band, (slide)guitarplayer is Sonny Landreth.
GooD Sound !!! I remember the first I heard this music it was From the movie "True Lies" And I wondered who sings this song cos' there's something weird in it. In fact I was confusing it with "The Commitments - Mustang Sally". It's almost the same
@@davidcohen393, that band was the Guilty Dogs, not dirty dogs ---- they were Hiatt's studio and road band for the Perfectly Good Good Guitar tour, with Mike Ward on guitar and Davey Farragher (I think) on bass. I saw them 4 times on that tour and they just kept getting better and better! Mike Ward played a slide solo on Thank You Girl ( from Bring the Family) that would have made Cooder or Landreth sweat bullets (and I'm a huge fan of both)!
I have the MP3/CD quality of the "radio" version of this song, as used in "True :Lies" when Jamie Lee Curtis is dancing like a tramp. Want the sheet music & tabs? Message me.
this is the song featured in the movie true lies, where Jamie Lee Curtis strips and does a sexy dance for Arnold S.!So I can see this as a perfect strip song now, lol!
Nope, that's Sonny Landreth; Ry wasn't available for the tour to support Hiatt's Bring the Family, so Sonny and the Goners got the gig instead ---- without which I likely wouldn't have heard of Sonny and my life would be duller for it. It wasn't until the Little Village record and tour some 5 or 6 years later that the original Bring the Family crew (Cooder, Nick Lowe, Jim Keltner) got together again for a record and tour (the record was so-so but they were great live).
It's kind of sad that it takes a recommendation from Bonnamassa (whom I find kinda bland) to alert people to the greatness of Sonny and John Hiatt, who played this some 35 years ago.
this song brings to my mind Arnold sitting in the chair and his wife "Helen" dancing in front of him ))))))
That's funny. I was just watching True Lies and that scene came on, and I was already on the computer, so I found the song to listen. During the dance scene though, I quit typing with my hands.
@@stevennorris3641 listen to Ain't nothin bout you, by brooks n dunn
Yes, and I've always wanted to see and hear it live.
Definitely...the sexiest song for me!!! I love it!!!
Sonny Landreth is the slide guitar. He has had one heck of a career. An amazing talent with a unique style in how he plays the slide.
😍 love this song, so damn seductive
Sonny and John! Perfect pair!
This is killer. Gut bucket vocals, sweet groove, and that d@mn slide player is smokin’ hot.
Hiatt hat wirklich immer gute Bands- Gitarristen-Bassisten-drummer und ist selbst ein excellenter Gitarrist.
Was für geile Songs der Mann schreibt!

Ahhhhh......refreshing
It's a lonely picture
Of an empty glass
It's a still life study
Of a drunken ass
And he howls at the moon
Hoping the sun don't come up too fast
I'm all alone in the dark now baby
I'm all alone in the dark now baby
I'm all alone on my knees at last
Alone in the dark
It's extreme self pity
And frozen fear
'cause I want you with me
And you're not here
So I rub my nose in it babe
Til the roses smell just like death
I'm all alone in the dark now baby
I'm all alone in the dark now baby
I'm all alone and drawing whiskey breath
Alone in the dark
My head is spinning baby what went wrong
I swear to god I tried
Just turned around one day and you were gone
Now these tears I have to cry
Alone in the dark baby, I'm all alone,
I'm all alone, I'm all alone
Since the night you left
I just couldn't stand myself anyway
I'm all alone in the dark now baby
I'm all alone in the dark now baby
I'm all alone on my knees at last
Alone in the dark
I'm all alone in the dark now baby
I'm all alone in the dark now baby
I'm all alone on my knees at last
Alone in the dark
Mant thanks.
Oh my God!! That´s amazing!!
I prefer Sonny Landreth's work with The Goners over anything else he's done. It's the perfect framework for his artistry.
been trying to find this song for years... god bless youtube

YES ... God bless youtube - we can see the soul with our eyes shut!!@!!
Hell yeah...!
New song for me I love it!!
This sounds better than the CD
Listening to this 2020...sexyist song in awhile...but heard on true lies ...
Wahre Groovemonster!!!!!
kickass music!
That guitar intro... godamn!!!
Sonny Landreth on slide makes this song not to mention John Hiatt's vocals !!!
I don't think so. I like Sonny, but he overplays here. Ry's sparse playing smoulders so much more. And they take it too fast.
@@jspartacus Agreed
Happy Birthday Hiatt Man!
TRUE LIES ......LOVE IT
This was the perfect song ,for the seen in true lies. With the perfect actress, Jamie Lee Curtis. Dam good song and show
Saw him doing Riding with the King with a different guy on lead, it was a smoking performance...
Yeah rock yeah !

She's got the jack by ac/dc
Give me up again by Jonny Lang/Joy by Lucinda Williams/henry's fuck up by Minor Majority/Hands Up I love you by Madrugada
And that children, is how you use a slide.
You got it John Hiatt.
Tom Waits must love this 👹☘️
@jpsartrean right on brother.. this is kickass slide-guitar playing!

This song drips sexy. Gawd!!
I love this song its a little groovy and sexy!
Это та песня , под которую танцевала горячая Джейми Ли Кертис в фильме Правдивая ложь !!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Enjoyed watching John & the Goners play this song live. And yes I always think of Jamie Lee Curtis doing the hot sexy striptease in "True Lies".
GooD Sound !!!

I wish Mick Taylor and Sonny would have gotten into a slide-off on this performance. The place would explode.
🎈🎼💙💛
I gotta start paying attention. just found this...
Wish this was available on DVD and or CD.
There is an Austin City Limits DVD with Hiatt and the Dirty Dogs. No Sonny Landreth, but a great band nonetheless!

Do it…doucement…
Jamie Lee set this song off san!!!
As much as I "dig" John/ the Goners & Sonny's smooth slide, I would prefer to watch Jamie Lee's slide.
Definitely RY COODER ON SLIDE

Ry Cooder, Jim Keltner... I'm not sure ? A great song from a great album.

Too bad Norton Buffalo (RIP) Harp wasn't heard on this....
Funky 🚬🔥💩

I like when my wife strips on this song! xD
Grhahahahwooohooo~!!!
Sonny Landreth is the boss.
@questioningtherain,
Fuck yeah. Awesome action movie. If heaven was an object, it would be Jamie Lee Curtis' ass.
let´s go to the nudie-bar, haha!
Sexi song
Very sorry friends I do love Sonny but on this song I prefere the ry's rythme guitare .
Roger from France
Here because of Joe Bonamassa
