- While walking around at Cleetus and Cars in Bradenton I spotted this machine right here with some big ole fattys on the back. I had to find the owner and talk to him about it! Colt Rist's 2004 Chevy Impala SS is packing a turbo LS 6.0 with a th400 transmission and a 10 bolt rear untouched from a 1980 Camaro!

To be fair, they weren't. From 58 to 90-something they were RWD then. The GM penny pinchers changed the tune
GM didn't have a RWD car in 2000, except for the Corvette and Camaro, unless they tampered with the F body.

They should've built it that way from the GM factory.
realistically it's just a family sedan on a camaro frame. front wheel drive was all the rage at that time just like everything has to be AWD now. even to this day i'm surprised RWD early 2000's impala conversions never became the norm.

They made the "commodore", called the caprice in 2012, which was not advertised enough.. but they're a badass car. Of course, I agree, we need more rwd cars. More fun, and more durable

The sound an Impala should have. I'm glad he didn't listen the people who said it was stupid. One of the most important things about doing a project is to have your own vision and just make it happen. Don't listen to the knock talkers because they can't see what you are doing. Let them see it when it's done.

That's pretty cool, I always liked that body style but the FWD always ruined it. Knowing that, it opens up much more possibilities for those cars.
as long as you can re engineer an entire rear suspension anything is easy.its called back halving and has been done millions of times.you need to cut out the rear floor,make frame rails(everything needs to be perfectly parallel in two directions),make suspension points accurately,make shock mounts accurately,make a trans cross member,make a driveshaft,make the rear end work with ijt all....it sure aint easy or a weekend project

@@kensmechanicalaffair right, I have a ls3 and three weeks after having it I blew the entire engine. It showed 140,000 miles but Replaced the engine for $5,000 and now it has less than 60,000 miles.not too shabby

GM sign this guy up! I have a 2003 LS & have had a 2004 & 2005. The '96 SS is the last true Impala. This is why Impala plummeted in sales. True Chevy Impala lovers have always been supporters of RWD w/positve traction. It's supposed to be a muscle car for God's sake! Salute! 👍💯

All my builds have been completed because of all the people saying “it cant be done or you dont know what you are doing” then 6 months later its a low 6sec 1/8 mile car with a stock 5.0 and freightliner turbo with a 150shot of intercooler

@@yeahok115sure As the man stated- he doesn't do well with this or Instagram ( his girlfriend has beem doing what gets done). As Mitchell can attest- doing filming PLUS building is a PITA and is a definite skill set. Not everyone has those skills. What this man did have, was vision & the desire to " get it done". It was impressive enough just to see what he had actually done.

The Chevy caprice ppv was a rwd in 2014 but all the other impala’s and caprices were fwd

I have a 2003 impala and was thinking about doing this
I have a 2004 Impala that I did some repair work on this week with my cousin. I said many times the engine was turned the wrong way. This car makes me want to do a similar conversion.
The man needs to invest in a shop, I know people who would pay some serious money to have their favorite FWD GM cars RWD V8 swapped. This week alone another guy did a 5.3 monte carlo and another guy with a 6.0 grand prix. Someone should try this on a pontiac G6 with a G8/GTO drivetrain
