  • Hard reset Laptop battery
This video is about how to reset laptop battery cycle count an solve the "plugged in not charging" problem in windows.
Often people are faced with the windows problem of "plugged in not charging" where the battery cannot be charged even though it is plugged in.
There are some software fixes like uninstalling the "microsoft complaint control method battery" driver in device manager and then reinstalling it by clicking 'scan for hardware changes'. But this method is not always successful.
The smart battery of a laptop has a circuit chip that keeps a cycle count ( number of times the battery has been recharged).
Some manufacturers design their battery in such a way that it cannot be charged beyond a certain number of cycles, say 600 cycles (600 times). This is just for business as you have to buy a new battery although your battery is otherwise fine.
In this video I will show how to reset the cycle count of a smart battery by reseting the circuit chip inside the smart battery.

Great idea for good condition battery. Thanks for the guidance and appreciate your knowledge. I was able to do the same with my Lenovo X61 laptop battery (checked and condition was good) as you mentioned the IC name for short-circuiting and could locate it in the circuit board. After the work, the laptop started charging. Great guidance helped in saving money.

That component looks like a thermistor or just a resistor. If anything you need to somehow reset the memory IC chip. I tried this just for the heck of it with four different batteries that had 95% power and it didn't work.

If you don’t want to tamper with the battery’s electronic panel, you can do the same with Ms Project 2007 Demo. Just by making simple projects directly during charging, plugging it in more times, and repeating the whole process. So, if charging starts at 14%, jumping to 100% immediately, the software demo will reset the battery to charge normally. This way you don’t have to manipulate the battery, most people don’t want to.

What does team management have anything to do with charging the battery ...what is the link and explain yourself. I don't have those two terminals to short out (notice the word is not "shortening" but shorting). Also he went to the leads to the board and said they had to be shortened (sp) also....then he sticks the screwdriver on those lead terminals quickly and doesn't show what he is shortening (sp). I have a chip R0Z0 but no two terminals close by like he has.....and this board is branded Dell although the battery is 3rd party. The audio dropped down so low I could barely hear him then it comes back later....why can't these people author properly?

I have 5 years old lenovo G50-80 model laptop and recently the battery ( original one, model # L12S4A02 ) stopped working. The laptop is not getting supply from battery and it's not working with battery. System shows 0 % available, plugged in. After opening the battery casing I tested all those 4 cells and all of them have 3.4volts each. So, seems cells are fine. However when I checked at battery outlet in BMS, it's showing 0 volts , no power coming at all to that point . Tried shorting the +ve terminals trick but even that failed. And, I tried to follow your trick but I could not locate it's IC shorting point in the board.

Do this with any other RECHARGEABLE (!) battery u will risk shortening, results in -> outgassing -> results in fire or explosion, in the worst case.
Don´t do any unqualified maintenance to batteries AND do never open any! (to viewers)
Never open and NEVER EVER short circuit an accumulator, without knowing exactly what you do. Even if u do. DON´T.
This man knows what to do. FOR THIS particular Samsung Model. Don´t get urself hurt!
No offense man, nice hint anyways - but not for everyone. You should insert a disclaiming clip that says USE EXTREME CAUTION AND DO NOT OPEN ELECTRICAL PARTS. If the cells are slightly broken they need the housing, and it needs to fit tight. It will not after. Guess why there are no screws on any accu-packs.
Use extreme caution and verifiy if this is the EXACT same part and location of the contacts.

Thanks for the help, but it did not work because I did not want to damage the housing. You sure u can do this to any cellpack? I am a bit scared. I think I wrecked the circuits onboard with a power supply with too much power. :(

Hello. I have an X541SC laptop and the battery died. It lasted 2-3 hours, but I can no longer run the laptop with it. When I took it out and measured + and -, there is no voltage. I told myself it was dead. I took another second hand, but i did not measure it before taking it. I just took it and put it on the laptop, but it's the same case. When I measured it, again there is no voltage of + and -, but the batteries themselves on both sides give 11-12 volts. Does anyone have any idea if this is a dead board / battery processor, or for some reason there is a protection that has turned on and stopped the output voltage? I found this on the internet:
Some batteries are equipped with a solid-state switch that is normally in the “off” position and no voltage is present at the battery terminals. Connecting the switch terminal to ground or pulling it up often turns the battery on. If this does not work, the pack may need a code for activation. Battery manufacturers keep these proprietary codes a well-guarded secret to which even service personnel have no access.

Can be either the fuse on the battery charging board (usually a 3 or 4 pin device) or the BMS chip has entered a lockout state. What is shown here will not work on al types of battery nor will it solve all issues. The cells get fatigued over time too and will loose charging capacity as time goes on. So even while charging the total charge it can hold will be reduced. Replacing the cells is an option but it does require you to reset the BMS board.
In short, it isn't all as simple as what is shown here.
