I like the focused attention to specific aspects of playing the Cello along with the often enlightening explanations. Thanks for sharing.
I played Clarinet for +12 years along with a few other instruments. after about 4 years without music I'm back at it but with cello! your videos are really helpful supplements for my journey, thank you!
My pleasure, surfnsunshinekat :-)
Appreciate this. The beginner technique sounds just like me.
Savoir these days, for there will come a time where you will not sound as such, and you might pine for a more simple time as you labor away at more challenging pieces.
Me too. Lol
All your videos are helpful! They're well thought out and well done. Thank you.
Super helpful. This explains exactly what I've been doing wrong!
Hope you correct any bad habits, Lela, with time and diligence.
Thank you!!! This is very clearly demonstrated, really appreciated!
Anytime, Angela!
Thank you!!
really needed this, thank you Sensei
Hope it helps, cedurick!
Very helpful!
Always excellent!
Thank you
Thanks Jonathan!! Off to practice
Good response!
This is excellent! No wonder my Ode to Joy sounded so strange. I wasn't letting my D string resonate on the G note. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
You help me is much.
Excellent. Thanks mate ☺️👌
You'r welcome, Khailashkumar.
Thanks!! Great explanation!
Glad you learned something, David!
@@CelloCoach Absolutely! Everytime! Your videos are a big reason I`ve dared to try learning the cello
As an adult beginner I have found your videos extremely helpful! Thank you so much
glad to help
sooooo helpful:)
Glad you think so!
i literally clicked on this video because i’m trying to learn the prelude for a solo so thanks!
Thank you very much for this tutorial. Can you please post full video of Bach suit no 1 prelude?
Also want to know thumb position and shape of left hand.
Thanks in advance
Thanks ! That was very interesting. Could do teach us how to prevent squeaking from the bow ? I have some issue to hold my bow correctly when I play. It doesn't remain "straight" but it happens to lean foward or backwards... The notes doesn't sound great because of that
Absolutely, Maud! That is the next three part series.
thx my man
Any time!
Big fun. Many thanks for your time dedicated to us. Please only one correction. It's not Bak. It's Bah. It's German.
Por favor alguien haga subtitulos para este video
I am so frustrated. I have such difficulty placing 4 fingers on the cello string at one time. I cannot get a good stretch between 1st and 4th finger-painful . I am an older beginner learner
try one the 1-2-4 or the 1-3-4 on the same string
my cello at school never squeaks and i play really well but the cello i use at home is squeaky and makes me quit minutes after playing with it. is there any common reason for this that i’m doing wrong? IK it’s not technique
I have been getting some squeakies......?! I have more trouble though when I have to play an open G note or I have been working on 'Over the Rainbow' and when I have to come back to a dotted minum open D after a quaver C# on the G....?? it's probably more my bow arm but is really annoying....?
Like in m.7 ? Yes, I see. Left you palm away from the fingerboard, and to aid this push your thumb towards the left side of the neck. This action lifts the palm. If the squeak can be a harmonic, that means your 4th finger is well-placed yet also the problem. Sorry for this very late reply. Hope your family is having a healthy 2020.
Can you show this technique using songs from the Suzuki cello books 1 and 2? That would be so helpful. Thank you!
I’m interested in your book so please let me know how I can purchase it. Thanks!
Hey Angela. I honestly recorded the entire Book 1 in this camera angle and it was hard. Maybe I will take a look at it again. As for my Scale Book, you can donate 25$US here - jonathanhumphries.com/donate - and email me jh@jonathanhumphries.com to choose which format you desire: PDFs or hard copy.
@@CelloCoach Sir, I would also love to get the video and pdf of Suzuki book 1
Please guide
I am VERY VERY new to cello. I purchased an electric cello, as I wanted to play electric eventually....Is there any derogatory issue(s) that would be better served by an acoustic cello? Also, I am considering new D’addario strings as those that came with them are less than stellar, and I hope that better strings might help. Thoughts? I also have ordered a carbon fiber bow. Per suggestions in your videos, I am trying to upgrade my inexpensive electric. My other thought is that I go ahead and order the acoustic, and use the upgraded strings, etc on it.....Sorry for the looongg message. -misti
Yes on the D'Addario strings, and hold on the acoustic cello. Get to know the cello you have now, and if you feel a need to change/upgrade or even add, then carry on yet only after you have "sunk you teeth" into the process of learning cello.
As for "derogatory" issues, none really save for the cello bridge and preamp needing work. That red electric cello review was owned by one of my students, whom eventually purchased a trade chinese cello, and sold the red one. But this happened after 18 months of cello lessons.
THANK YOU!!!
This is gonn take me years to be even ok at 😭😭😭
Be patient it will work one day
No
yes, and I prove it every day
i rlly wonder why you always play the same music
It's well-known, and universally learned, plus it is very easy to compare. Bach is the Gold Standard of Music, so why go anywhere else? If I show this in a concerto - like the Haydn D (uses the same logic) - how many of my active subs can play that piece? Plus, My most viewed video is "How to Play the Prelude" so it's showing people examples using this piece is perfectly on-brand.
@@CelloCoach oh ok thank you for the explanation
Thank you!!
You’re welcome
