I remember!! Cloth, herbs, weapons, patterns, pottery, musical instruments, shoes....👀👀 My last one...traded furs for a finished pouch. Bought amber, linen, a bronze amulet. What I wouldn't give to be there again! Soon! Now that the pestilance is as under control as disease will ever be...we're coming home! The drums and music call us. 😍😍

This is just the marketplace! Which is amazing. But I want to the see the TRUE midnight madness at all the camps. Especially the the bog or swamp or whatever it's called.
The Viking Luau, The men without pants party, the lost boys, the tuchux. The few days when there is almost NO possible way to attend all the parties being advertised. The random taverns; and roving amoebas. (wandering group drinking party) Find your bearings on the lake circle! Help random drunk new person who thinks they are hopelessly lost. (you aren't!)

I always thought that everyone at Pennsic is a participant, and everyone wears medieval clothes all the time... 🤔
Pennsic is definitely a participant-only event, but it is not really an SCA event anymore so much as a medievalist-fantasy festival hosted by the SCA that has become its own entity and is all things to all people. Although there are many serious medievalists in attendance, with serious medievalism happening in various parts, and thousands of members of the SCA adhering pretty faithfully to SCA rules and norms, there are also thousands of non-medievalists who want to dress like Pirates of the Carribean and party in ways that happen only at places like Burning Man. LIkewise in the marketplace, there are merchants selling authentic, reproduction historical wares, but also fantasy and ethnic wares that have little to do with any period of history but the present. The same way that many of the large, commercial medieval markets in Germany have become less and less authentic (with many people wearing "Marktkleider" featuring fur hides rather than actual medieval attire). As a 15th century Contessa, I view it all with the amused eye of a worldy lady who sees the "inauthenticity" not as such, but rather as an exotic panoply of strange, fascinating peoples from strange, fascinating places. Much like the court of the Emperor, or Naples, or Burgundy. And then in my own camp and wherever I go, I simply bring the 15th century magic with me to share with whomever should care to enjoy it. 😀
Maybe next year, I will finally document Pennsic in a more thorough way...
