Lionsgate really nailed it w those Steelbooks this year. I'm not even that much of a 'steelbook guy' & I was impressed w most of them.
They were all great and it helps that they were cheaper then the average new steelbook.
Ran was an easy blind buy. Great price, beautiful steelbook and the name Kurosawa attached

Lions gate been awesome this year especially with them clear slips over them. I have the dread 4K steelbook that movie is awesome it’s a shame we’re never getting a sequel or a tv series since it bombed so badly when it came out in 2012

I'd have to put Godzilla vs Kong on my list. It's a cool looking steelbook and not just the typical artwork on a steelbook like the other major studios have done lately. I'd also say Batman: Long Halloween steelbooks are on my top list as well

@@midlevelmedia Yes, honestly I'm pretty sad, that I can't find serious list of the most beautiful steelbooks :( I mean, I understand that this is individual feeling, but I'm sure there are objectively beautiful steels... I agree that Lionsgate Steels are clever and some have cool design. I would understand, if there would be one or two of them in the list... but all? Steelbook without emboss/deboss is for me automatically like 50% lower interest. I always thought to myself, why they do that? Those ugly drawings, without any frame... I mean, yes - that Godzilla vs Kong steelbook if beautiful.. embossed, with frame, beautiful scenery, colors... for me historically the most beautiful steelbook is Pans labyrinth from Kimchi... or Predator from Filmarena will be stunning! But why I can't find any real list of best of the best :( at least one WEA steelbook in the list, no? It can't be the best of the best then... :(
The Kick Ass steelbook has awesome artwork
I only got 2 steelbooks this year, and they're both from Shout Factory and they're both animated. The Transformers 4K and Perfect Blue. They're not exactly stunning cases, but they are great movies!

I've always hated steelbooks but I've come around on them in a big way this year, mostly thanks to Lionsgate. I also think Synapse did some beautiful work with Massacre at Central High and The Kindred.

Not manage to pick up a steelbook this year but my fav ones I own are Highlander Blu-Ray and Reservoir Dog petrol can with cardboard matches inside with the disc. Im hunting for the original Trilogy of Star Wars Steelbooks.

Great video, Ken. Love these Top 10 videos. When I saw the title of this video, of course I immediately thought of Lionsgate. Like you said, this could've easily been a Top 10 Lionsgate Releases video. It's unbelievable what they've been doing this year. Such fantastic releases.
That Total Recall plus Terminator 2 Steelbook looks absolutely amazing. It's such an original design. I might have even put it in the top 10 purely based on the original idea of combining the artwork of two different movies.
Nice to see Dirty Dancing so high on the list. This is the one that started it all, when it comes to Lionsgate Steelbooks. When I saw videos of this release here on CZcams (including your video, I think), I immediately fell in love with it and I just had to have it.
Unfortunately, it's a Best Buy Exclusive and I live in Europe, so it's impossible for me to just order this Steelbook. I had to buy it from someone on eBay for 30 Dollar or so, plus 20 Dollar shipping, plus another 20 Dollar for import tax. So, in the end I paid something like 70 Dollar for a Steelbook that's only 20 Dollar for those living in the US. However, it's the only way to get this Steelbook for those who don't live in the US and I just had to have it. The fact I'm willing to spend this much money on it indicates how beautiful it is.
Another release I really like is the Zavvi Exclusive Steelbook of Shrek. This Steelbook has a completely different design from the US Steelbook. I don't think the US Steelbook is that special, but when I saw the European Zavvi Exclusive Steelbook I just had to have it. I had just bought the regular Amaray release on 4k Blu-ray, but when I saw this Steelbook I immediately ordered it.
The Steelbook of Raya and the Last Dragon looks amazing as well. I had already seen the movie and was going to buy the regular Amaray release, but then I saw pictures of the Steelbook and I immediately knew that's the edition I wanted to own.
Last but not least are the four Steelbooks of the Universal Classic Monsters Collection. When the 4k Blu-ray release of the Universal Classic Monsters Collection was announced, I was ready to pre-order it. However, then I saw those Steelbooks and I knew I wanted to have all four individual Steelbook releases, as I absolutely loved the artwork on them.
It's strange they didn't do The Invisible Man in the US. However, here in Europe we did in fact get all four of them. So, even though we didn't get that fantastic release of Dirty Dancing, we did actually get The Invisible Man. I'm happy to own all four of these Steelbooks. They look fantastic.
I've got an honourable mention as well. It's an honourable mention, because I don't actually own this particular release, so I can only judge this Steelbook by looking at pictures and videos online. However, last month's Steelbook of Hacksaw Ridge by Lionsgate (who else?) seems to look absolutely amazing. Such fantastic artwork. Like I said, I don't own it myself, but judging by what I've seen online I had to at least mention it.
I completely agree with you about The Shawshank Redemption. What the Hell was that about? You'd think Lionsgate showed the industry how to release absolutely fantastic Steelbooks. Warner Bros. only had to take a look at these fantastic Lionsgate releases and do something similar themselves. Instead they release this... whatever it's even supposed to be. Obviously I opted for the regular Amaray release with slipcover, as it looked a hundred times better than the Steelbook. It's such a fantastic movie, such a classic. This movie deserved so much more than this horrible Steelbook. You should've included this one in your video as a dishonourable mention.
Awesome collection, did you know there's also a matching Friday 13th part one steelbook? You probably own it. Yes the American Psycho is fantastic, great price too. My top ones are Carlito's Way following Cruella. I'm pretty selective on steelbooks myself. With that said, would you happen to know if Red Dragon will be transferring to a 4k edition? Prequel to Silence of the Lambs. Red Dragon is such an underrated movie in my opinion. Thank you for the review, Merry Christmas and Happy new Year!

Bro, you NEED to watch Dredd. Its the closest thing to a simple no nonsense modern 80s action movie like Robocop mixed with The Raid.
My favorites are 3 From Hell, Saw, T2, Cruella, Black Widow, Mad Max Road Warrior and Thunderdome, American Psycho, Chaos Walking, WW84, and The Hitman's Bodyguard and Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard. Happy Holidays.
Those are all great picks! Those Hitman's Wife steels were nice, but wasn't into those movies.

Luckily I hadn't bought the 4K yet, so it was an easy pick for me.
I’m new to 4K. And loving it so far.. but … really… How bad is the t2 transfer? Been itching to buy that gorgeous steel and the last new transfer I watched was the latest BLURAY that was released years ago .
I've actually never watched it past the bluray, but from what I hear they completely messed up the color grading. James Cameron likes it though, so I doubt it'll change.

The only steelbook I do not own in your collection is the Apocalypse Now, as I've already had purchased the collector's edition which also has a kickass cover and boxset, oh and also Do The Right Thing, the movie just didn't caught my attention. Might pick it up later.

I did end up getting that t2 steel and it came severely dented on the top. And now they're sold out so has this ever happened to anyone? Am I still able to get it replaced somehow?

5:09 The Dredd Steelbook (which I own) Note Dredd's gun says "Hotshot" on its display. That actually happens in the movie. Great attention to detail and one of my favorites in my collection. Sad this movie didn't do well financially. Also don't expect to be blow by the quality of the film. This was shot in 2012 in that wonky area were some films were shot on 1080p, but the movie is just so good that you forget about the resolution. You should move it up in your "To watch" list.

Didn't get either one man. I didn't grab a lot of the mainstream Studio release Steelbooks, because they weren't the best to me.

T2 transfer 4k is garbage. Blu ray is way better. Steelbook is beautiful though.
