The Silent Tensions of Ring Fit Adventure

  • It's easy to scoff at fitness games. How could they possibly replace actual, "real" exercise, like going to the gym or -- heaven forbid -- going outside? And even if they did, wouldn't that come at the cost of having a legitimately fun game to play? These seem like reasonable questions. Luckily, while it's far from perfect, Ring Fit Adventure provides some pretty compelling answers.

I'm really amazed how well this game works for me. It's a genuine workout compared to Wii Fit+ (except for that Obstacle Course), and the story is surprisingly not tone-deaf. The game is pretty darn respectful to general audiences I feel, instead of talking down to players or making them feel like they aren't doing enough. I'm hoping to finish the story soon. Great videos you got here, between this and the Bowser's Fury video I'm a new subscriber!

Wow, you have such a gem of a channel; I hope your videos will get shown to plenty of other people as it did to me!
I haven't played Ring Fit nearly as long as you have (I'm only on world 16 I think, and the last time I played it was a good 2 years ago), but I do still want to get back into the swing of things and pick it up again. I really enjoyed my time with the game; I only stopped playing because I don't like getting sweaty in my "normal" clothes and I didn't have many athletic outfits since my work and hobbies are both pretty sedentary. I've recently taken up swimming for exercise though, so maybe when the weather gets cooler I'll hop back on the Ring Fit grind again!

next video to watch a few times and then comment on lol
this one sent me back to my childhood and showed me things i didnt notice or think about as a kid. obviously the insulting messages are bad, but as a kid it genuinely helped me start exercising and bettering myself. i was bullied a lot and was much much larger as a child and throughout my life it effected me, oddly enough, the thing that made me start a "weight loss journey" was wii fit. i didnt think of it as exercising at the time and was just playing the mini games and whatever without knowing, then switching games and playing sonic and the black knight, which also had child me doing way more physical things than i usually would.
we live in the timeline where im an adult now that hasnt been a big fan of nintendo, but if little me found ring fit, based on this video alone, i woulda loved it. definitely wouldnt have even noticed the content dropoff you described, im honestly surprised a modern game has so much content with no repeats until that 16th world and i can appreciate that as a viewier. since this game came out early in the switchs life cycle, i'd assume it was a rush for release. i also appreciate you defining the true meaning of this games "continue without me" message.
also, the footage used in this video is appreciated(shout out to the two guys in the description). game looks visually great and completely unique with the rpg combat mixed with real life movement, kinda reminded me of the alphadream mario games combat system.
anywhom, great video as per usual. excited to watch more, especially your new pokemon mystery dungeon video. have no clue about final fantasy, but expect to see me in the comments anyways :) thanks for your work and entertainment

It's sad there doesn't seem to be more Ring Fit in the pipeline, since it sold so well. I would definitely be there for more worlds and exercises. The fabric on my ring-con is starting to wear out from overuse lol

I’ve been playing this game and for whatever reason it does not read my squats. I will be squatting to the fullest of my ability, but the game will still tell me I am not lowered enough😭

I've had issues too. The most common issue I've found is that I've put the leg strap either too high or too low.

I can't play it due to no space, but RingFit is genuinely one of the coolest things Nintendo has done. Even just conceptually as an rpg platformer thing centered around making gains but the fact that it works and has a pretty charming world and characters too.
In general i notice Nintendo's newest entries to the library have a kind of fitness/sporty focus in this obviously, ARMS and Splatoon. But I like it all having a bit of that Nintendo charm on top of it, giving all these titles a cool twist. Ringfit and ARMS are definitely favorites amongst their whole library for me

I'm really glad I invested in Ring Fit. It sold really well, so I'm kinda surprised Nintendo hasn't really done anything with the game since. I'd easily buy DLC or a sequel in a heartbeat.

@@AurumAlex64 Yeah, Nintendo is definitely different when it comes to updating content, no matter how well a game does. Guess they just prefer having most games stand on their own first before going with the milking, especially if it's a newer IP it seems.

I ended up taking a break from this game due to mental health issues, but I enjoyed playing through the first time. Literally the only reason I was able to get through the game even the one time was because the game was so encouraging. I hated how judgemental Wii Fit U was. I was taking a 1-2 hour walk in the mornings and doing an hour or so of Wii Fit U. Naturally, this may increase your muscle mass slightly. I had to stop playing when, for a week solid, it kept criticizing me for gaining 0.1 pounds ( I don't think I'd even notice that normally). Ironically, the game got concerned when I lost 6 pounds a month later (possibly losing the muscle I built up since I stopped doing ANY exercise after that). It felt like being yelled at in real life for not getting thin instantly despite working out. It's incredibly tone deaf to yell at the people that need to play the game the most, and then question them when they quit the game.
I like how Ring Fit Adventures never got on my case for taking a break (again, mental health issues) and never shamed me for needing to lower the difficulty after an absence. I totally agree that the pacing for New Game + is ultra slow, but I don't mind the recovery moves much. I guess I'm fine with them since I'm not that flexible, so I like an option to get in a bit of a stretch mid workout. I guess I'm seeing the moves as "I need this" rather than "Well, I should heal, so...".
