- In today’s Puerto Escondido Vlog, I will be taking you with me as I explore the beautiful coastal town of Puerto Escondido and discover what you can get with $20 or 400 Mexican Pesos. Puerto Escondido is located in the state of Oaxaca Mexico, and over the past few years has become a very popular destination for backpackers, digital nomads and surfers. So, today we are going to find out how expensive is Puerto Escondido and why so many people love visiting this coastal town!
To start off the day in Puerto Escondido Mexico we went to the main market in town called Mercado Benito Juarez to get a traditional Mexican breakfast. For breakfast, I got huevos a la Mexicana, which are Mexican style scrambled eggs. After a delicious breakfast in Puerto Escondido, I walked across the market for a fresh fruit juice. After breakfast, I decided to take a colectivo across town to the area of Puerto Escondido called La Punta. Colectivos are shared taxis, and in Puerto Escondido Oaxaca, they only cost $0.08!
La Punta is a beautiful area lined with dirt roads, tall palm trees, and tons of shops, restaurants, and cafes. La Punta is likely my favorite area of Puerto Escondido. After walking around La Punta, I decided to get an iced coffee at one of my favorite cafes in Puerto Escondido, Nomada. After a refreshing coffee, it was time for lunch so I decided to go to a local taco spot called Chilango Taco right on the edge of La Punta. I got fresh chicken and steak tacos, and the owners were incredibly kind and fun to talk with!
After lunch and a quick snack of plantain chips, I walked up Playa Zicatela (Zicatela Beach) from La Punta all the way to Playa Principal (Principal Beach). Playa Principal is a great local beach in Puerto Escondido where tons of locals like to go fishing and relax in the sun. Right above Playa Principal is Adoquin street, which is lined with tons of local shops and restaurants. This is a great place to get some affordable food and souvenirs in Puerto Escondido. After buying a new pair of flip flops and a passion fruit popsicle, I walked all the way to what many consider to be the best beach in Puerto Escondido, Playa Carrizalillo (Carrizalillo Beach).
On the way to Playa Carrizalillo, I stopped to get a fresh coconut on the side of the road. Like many others, Playa Carrizalillo is my favorite beach in Puerto Escondido. The views from above are absolutely stunning and Playa Carrizalillo is home to incredible soft white sand and friendly waves for beginner and intermediate surfers in Puerto Escondido. To end the day in Puerto Escondido, I went to a local taco stand to enjoy the famous Al Pastor Tacos.
After spending about a week in Puerto Escondido Mexico, I can now understand why so many people love it here so much. And as you can hopefully see from my video, it’s not too hard to travel Puerto Escondido affordably.

It is super tasty!
Cheers big ears! I'll be in January next year to test 20USD/400 MXN/day.
Greetings from Poland😀
Enjoy your trip in January, I think you will!
@@MattKramerTravels My first time in Mexico and the tastiest place straight out in the Oaxaca area (Huatulco, Playa Zipolite and Puerto Excondido), thanks Matt.
Anytime!
You got so much for $20! The paleta looked delicious and refreshing 😋
Puerto Escondido can be really affordable if you know where to go!
I was informed the bars are closed because no alcohol is allowed to be sold until at least 31 August.
When I was there I did notice bars were open but the restrictions are changing constantly
$20 can get you so much in PE, and all of the food you got looked so good. We were there for a month and loved eating at the market- we’d get tamales and cafe de olla there in the mornings!
A whole month, how lucky! I’ll have to try the tamales next time I’m in PE!
@@MattKramerTravels Our favorite tamales at the market were from an awesome lady named Cande. If you walk around the tamales section, you can’t miss her🙂
Where did you stay for the month, I looking for 3 month rental
@@coyne777 We stayed in an Airbnb in the “downtown” part of Puerto Escondido (called El Centro) because we wanted somewhere less touristy and more local. We posted all our adventures during that month on our channel if you want to see what El Centro is like🙂
Thanks for the tip!
Located in the state of Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido makes our “Best Places to Live in Mexico” list for it's beautiful breathtaking mountainous landscape that rolls into the beautiful Pacific Coast bay, temperate climate and “Old Mexico” feel.
Thanks for sharing this!
Puerto Escondido has been on my radar for a few years. Your vlog is so good. Combined with a couple I've viewed from BackpackingBananas really solid info wonderfully presented.
I'm ready to fly there NOW....Love street food.😁..Muchas gracias. Good wishes.
Thanks John! I hope you get to visit sometime soon!
This is awesome it makes me want to visit and create a guide for our site haha
Hi Matt
Another great video from the colourful market to the beautiful ocean views and the food looked fantastic so I’m jealous wish I could travel again when COVID takes a hike it will happen until then I will have to enjoy my 2 day trip from Scotland 🏴 to Manchester in England 🏴 today where the forecast is rain ☔️ brolly time.
Stay safe and well.
🚶♀️❤️.
Thanks George! I hope you enjoy your trip to England and get the chance to travel abroad again in the near future!
@@MattKramerTravels thanks Matt
I’m on the train 🚆 now 2 hours to get there.
Enjoy your evening.
👍🚶♀️❤️
@@georgemcclafferty You too, safe travels.
👍
thanks, that s inspiring, we ll repeat that!
Glad to hear it!
Muchas gracias...Muy bien..Great info....My second view as make moves to visit that area.
Thanks John, Puerto Escondido is a special place!
Those tacos looked delicious! Loved the video 👌
what are your thoughts on corn tortilla vs wheat???
Thanks Michelle, they were super tasty!
I love both! What about you?
*It's great to see so much that happened in just one day and no having to rush anywhere!*
*The only thing that needs a boost is the American repair culture, in Mexico you could just take your unglued sandals to "taller de calzado"/'shoe workshop" and they repair it for cheap; ready for a second life, for most of everyday things there is a workshop where they will repair, mend, sew, calibrate etc almost anything, you just have to ask to the locals*
Thanks for sharing this, and glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video!! :D
Thanks Crista!
Just got back from Cabos and La Paz in Baja California... Puerto Escondido is now on my list... Thanks for the video 📹 😉👍
i can't believe it's 95 degrees in November!
new sub here. you are doing awesome in speaking Spanish when you ordered food. and you used por fa the slang for please so it gives you more street cred 😎 looking forward to seeing more of your channel. 🤩
Thanks so much Connie!
wow. that means you can live comfortably for $600/month and end up with 30 pairs of flip flops at the end of the month 🤣
Hahaha I love your takeaway Luis!
What an awesome video!!! Mexico owes you $$$ 'cause I'm sold
😂😂 love it!
Stress free 🌊 🏝🏖
Exactly!
I camped at la Punta in 1972. There was nothing there. To get there, you had to walk from playa principal along the beach. The we just strung hammocks from the trees so we could see the point break. Fishermen brought a bucket full of fresh oysters from the rocks around the point. It was beautiful and completely undeveloped.
Omg brah I thought you were Hispanic cause you speak Spanish very well
Haha thank you, I appreciate it!
Dude! Your energy is excellent. Thinking about traveling to Puerto Escondido this year. Any good language learning resources you’d recommend?
Thanks Samuel, its a beautiful place! Duolingo is an easy way to learn passively when you have time but I found the best way is to take some classes in Latin America and do a homestay to immerse yourself in the language and culture!
hi! love your video!
Thanks Andrea! Based on what I've heard, Puerto Escondido is usually hot and maybe rainy during that time
I definitely want to go
You should Flora!
I'll find out in February 2022
Enjoy your trip Rich!
what you can get in switzerland for the same price:
- the breakfast
- 1/8 of the flip flop
done.
Hahaha
Wow!! Same huevos a la mexicana in LA $12 dollars. Lv it.
They are delicious too Carlos!
I’m here now and it’s so much more expensive! 400-500 pesos for a dinner for 2. A lot must’ve changed since two years ago 😅
Wow. You visit such awesome Mexican places. How does one get to PE? does it have an airport?
Thank you! Yes, there is a small airport in Puerto Escondido. Otherwise, you will likely have to take a long bus or drive there.
@@troythomastaylor That's another great option Troy, thanks for sharing!
🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Mexico is such an amazing country!
Chingon pues
Get some glue to glue your shoe.
HAHAHAH next time!
Hi when is the best time to visit and weather
I believe dry season is typically from December to April, which means less rain!
@@MattKramerTravels thanks
What do u use to vlog
Typically my GoPro
can you live on 27 dollars a day backpacking around this area ??
I think it’s doable but you’d have to be very cautious of how you spend your money!
Can you use dollars in all those places?
I only used Mexican Pesos so I'm not entirely sure about US dollars. I don't recall many people using dollars in Puerto Escondido but it might be possible in some places
hola matty
Hola 🤟
Ya me voy. Gracias.
Have a good trip!
how much cost surfboard??
I can't remember exactly but no more than $10 per hour.
You remind me a of a young nikocado avocado ❤
The juice was more expensive than a half of the meal?
WTF?
I didn’t make the prices 😂
You’re so beautiful Matt! Do you have a boyfriend? I’ll be in Puerto Escondido in two weeks! 🥰
Te hicieron de agua mijo
the sand at Playa Carizzalillo is golden color...not white..!!!!!
Just do not go to zipolite, Manding, the drug dealer stabbed me from behind 6 times.
He had a husky or Alaska, it was younge
Dog.
His business is where the drugs are, very dangerous
mas barato q el chipotle
México is cheap in general !!
It can be an affordable travel destination, thanks Carlos!
Food looks great . . . But all cooked in toxic seed oils !
The food was super delicious!
What we're noticing is that you've got the camera up in your face showing yourself walking here and there and you whizzing by the sights and sounds as you walk!
We have no desire to see you we want to see the sights we want to see what's in front of you what's to the side of you like in the mercado for instance you didn't show anything just walk through it in fast motion! What!
So you're going to have to improve your videos by showing the sites that people are trying to see instead of you that has the camera so close to their face you can see up your nose!
