    RUNDOWN OF MY QUEST CHOICES
I stuck to mostly paragon conversation options, paragon interrupts and quest decisions throughout the game, with an occasional renegade option thrown in.
Freedom's Progress - let Cerberus take Veetor (renegade)
Horizon and Collector Ship - paragon dialogue options
Dossier: Archangel (Garrus) - used cattle prod to take out engineer (renegade)
Dossier: The Professor (Mordin) - helped sick Batarian, saved trapped residents and Mordin’s assistant
Dossier: Tali - convinced Reegar to stay out of fight
Dossier: The Convict (Jack) - paragon dialogue
Dossier: The Warlord (Grunt) - paragon dialogue
Dossier: The Assassin (Thane) - saved factory workers
Dossier: The Justicar (Samara) - exposed Volus crimes to Asari detective, let Elnora walk away, prevented Pitne For from fighting
Dossier: The Master Thief (Kasumi) - paragon dialogue
Dossier: The Veteran (Zaeed) - paragon dialogue
Reaper IFF - sold Legion to Cerberus (renegade - don’t hate me, I did it for a future video)
Final Mission - destroyed Collector base (paragon)

      LOYALTY MISSIONS AND SIDE QUESTS
Garrus Loyalty - stopped Garrus from Shooting Harkin, stopped Garrus from shooting Sedonis
Mordin Loyalty - destroyed Maelon’s data and did not stop Mordin from killing Maelon (renegade)
Tali Loyalty - hugged Tali, used paragon persuasion checks to get Tali pardoned
Miranda Loyalty - stopped Miranda from shooting Niket, encouraged Miranda to talk to her sister
Jack Loyalty - stopped Jack from killing Aresh, let Jack talk about her experiences
Samara Loyalty - hugged grieving mother, avoided renegade options to attract Morinth and in dialogue, sided with Samara
Zaeed Loyalty - persuaded Zaeed to save the factory workers and let Vido escape
Jacob Loyalty - had Jacob let his father commit suicide
Grunt Loyalty - stuck to paragon dialogue options, headbutted Krogan (renegade) because it’s too funny
Thane Loyalty - avoided all renegade options in Elias interrogation, invoked spectre status to convince him to give info on Kolyat, paragon interrupt to stop Kolyat from executing Talid
Kasumi Loyalty - let Kasumi keep Keiji’s greybox
I only did a handful of side quests and none of the DLC:
Omega - Aria’s patriarch mission - used paragon dialogues to convince him to stand up for himself
Omega - Batarian bartender - confronted him with paragon dialogue options
Illium - Gianna Parisini - helped her expose Asari merchant selling schematics illegally
Illium - Returned locket to grieving Asari widow
Illium - Convinced Synthetic Insights rep to hire Quarian slave (paragon check)
Illium - returned family data to Salarian
Citadel - resolved conflict between Volus and Quarian, used paragon interrupt to chastise the Volus and C-Sec rep
Citadel - told Krogan there are no fish in the presidum

I recruited everyone (except legion) and leave all loyalty missions the last thing to do before recruiting legion. And as you said do as many side missions as you can. Leave jacks loyalty mission the last thing before going to recruit legion as it does a loyalty challenge the same as tali and legion. By the time you do this and then do jack last you don't even have to worry about combat mastery being shock trooper or commando. You'll be maxed by then and recruit legion and do his loyalty immediately after getting him. Then you go do the suicide mission. You can do the dlcs as well since overlord chronologically takes place before the suicide mission.

I got my paragon bar nearly full before going to the reaper to get the iff, I think it has to do with the order I took to complete the game.
Edit: Also, Garrus loyalty mission is really good for your paragon score, no speech checks, just talk to Sidonis, you won't risk Garrus loyalty by doing so.

You know you could have maxed paragon and renegade in ME1 right? Spend about 30 minutes talking to giana's inside source on noveria. Don't even need to save. Just stand there and run the convo on repeat. Memorize the key strokes to skip through it and pick rene or para at the end. Max both in very little time. Not a glitch. Just repeating convos. Do it by accident enough in other games.

@joshhaney9769 1 yr late. but on Noveria, when you talk to Lorik Quiin after getting the evidence and talking to Parasini, there is a conversation in which you can convince him to testify against Anoleis that required 6 charm and 5 Intimidate points, and gives you 25 Paragon and 24 Renegade points.
The glitch is that until you talk to Parasini and tell her about Lorik testifying, you can retrigger the Speech Check by doing these simple steps talking to Lorik -> Matriarch Benezia -> Other Topics -> Testify against Anoleis -> Speech Check. And you can do it enough times to get both a full paragon and full renegade bar on the same playthrough(although if you want to be renegade shep in ME2, don't max out your Paragon bar)
And yes, the glitch is still there.

Ive been playing mass effect 2 as a paragon and previously did the grunt loyalty quest where you go to tuchanka and help grunt thru the rite of passage. after the passage you have a convo with the krogan who wants to use grunt for his power. I did the usual good boy checks and gave grunt the choice to either join up with them or not (which was supposed to be the best option) but I ended up getting 15 renegade points and 18 paragon points. Not sure if I did something wrong or if the outcome doesn't matter and you'll get renegade points no matter what option you choose.

I didn't even do anything special, just stick to one choice type every time and try to do as many side quests as possible. oh u don't have 2 avoid all renegade interrupts because this isn't KotOR where it's 1 meter so renegade points cancel out paragon so some renegade interrupts won't change the matter as there was no option 2 get paragon in them so feel free 2; sabatage the gunship/shoot the mech u see in the sniper scope in the archangle mission, interrupt Hawk's "i knew u were here 2 steal shit" speech, or pushing the eclipse merc out of the window in Thane's mission 4 fun lol there may b a couple more like this but those just came 2 mind
the annoying part is making sure u don't miss any paragon interrupts
as someone with shitty sight in my left eye that part wasn't easy on my first coupe playthroughs but u can save often and redo a conversation skipping it as fast as u can since u already heard it and reloaded because if it won't let u skip a line it's because an interrupt is coming so check which 1 u r getting or spam the trigger u want and if it's the other 1 nothing will happen at least that works 4 console but i imagine 4 pc it's jsut keep your mouse on that corner of the screen

Honestly once you understand how the quests work you can basically do whatever you want. My last playthrough I had the renegade score maxed and the paragon one a little more than half. Passed all speach checks no problem. Same for mass effect 1. Just mess with the order you do the quests if you know where you can do what decisions with how much points. And in mass effect 3 just turn of your brain. If you fail a speach check in mass effect 3 you are doing something seriously wrong.

The Reputation meter fills up as you do things, regardless of whether you choose Paragon and Renegade meters. In some situations, you won't have dialogue options because your Reputation isn't high enough. Check out the Mass Effect wiki at masseffect.fandom.com/wiki/Reputation. That wiki is a great source of information.

As much as I love ME2, and even agree that resolving disputes between crewmembers should be done via persuasion checks, I hate the way they went about Paragon/Renegade scores. Basically, if you want to play a more morally ambiguous character - or even one that just happens to lean a little on one side or the other and NOT get worked over, you're screwed. Really hurts the player agency in the game, IMO.

For ME1, on Noveria, you can exploit the "testify" option when speaking with Lorik (you have to agree to get him to testify first 😉). One the conversation is over, talk to him again, ask about the matriarch and then select "another topic" and get him to testify again. Using this allows you to maximize both paragon and renegade to get both of the optional reputation missions. This also still works on the LE.

I really, really, REALLY fucking hate how you have to go 100% Paragon or 100% Renegade in Mass Effect 2 to avoid screwing yourself over. Most of the important Paragon checks aren't that impressive either. Does Shepard really need such a high score just to be able to go "hurr durr, we're on a mission, maybe you can have this argument later?"? It just makes them look like a complete buffoon when the game forces you to pick a side in an idiotic argument simply because your Shepard was too stupid to suggest waiting until after the final mission.
