The heat issue seems to be everywhere, including the south and west. Folks up in your area are suffering temperatures similar to GA and California. You may be the best home builder to take on this (WAR F4U) project. I have been following your videos for years and will continue to do so. Thankyou so much.
The weather up here does get hot and muggy this time of year, but it seems to have come earlier than normal. Thanks for following my progress. I hope there are no more issues to tend to in the near future.
So i fallowed you about 7 or so videos ago, i actually didn't know this was an old kit, i thought you where testing it so much cause it was all custom built now i see its you testing is due to you trying so many new parts in a already laid out platform. wish you the best and 100% condone you staying as safe as possible
Thanks. This was a plans built plane. There are no kits. I built everything you see here. I made the changes as I built it. So testing has required me to make adjustments along the way.
Dang i didnt realize how much you chose to or had to deviate from the original planes! Definitely take your time testing to make sure everything is just as it needs to be! Keep it going!
Don, ive been watching your videos from the beginning and I want you to know that you do you and you do whatever updates or changes you need to do. Those of us that understand and enjoy your odessy will be here. Itll fly when YOU are ready.
Well said. We are all excited, but would never want Don to throw caution to the wind just so we can see him fly this magnificent piece of art that he meticulously recreated. BBC
Thanks for everything. This will help us with WAR Corsairs, that still have not got start on that stuff. Bought my plans in the 90's and some part you couldn't get then.
I guess what I said about what parts W.A.R. used needed updated struck a nerve with you. Thank you for explaining everything different from the W.A.R. plans that you upgraded and substituted to make everything work, Don. That was an eye-opener.
I'm late to the party having just discovered this project this year. I had no idea, until this video, how customized this aircraft is vs the original WAR design. Don, it's no wonder you're taking your time with every little detail to make sure you've got a safe and reliable flyer. After all, you're the test pilot and it's your butt on the line when you firewall the throttle for the first time heading skyward on your maiden flight in this highly modified bird. I'm excited for you and think it will be a fantastic flight thanks to your attention to detail and patience performing extensive ground testing to get everything right. 👍👍
I had a light homemade aircraft and just made the rudder 25% larger (working with the designer) to combat the null zone in ground effect. This worked so well, the aircraft designer started looking at changing his design. I would recommend that instead of more rudder throw.
The problem with mine was sensitivity. It has plenty of travel at the rudder, just too little pedal travel. Needed more rudder pedal stroke, with the same rudder travel as before.
I'm glad to see you take your time and methodically go through things and check & recheck. The Internet is full of cowboys that don't seem to think about tomorrow. There is absolutely no need to rush things. Failure to check in an experimental like this can be deadly. Keep up the good work.
The one I flew 27 28 years ago used the hand crank for the landing gear . 0200 engine . Drops like a rock with power off better have a field up under you if it quits.
Mr. Dino, Don, I just love your Hanger talk! Hopefully the remnants of that hurricane will come on up here and cool us all off An update on my model corsair is I’ve got the panel lines on, and I am working on the rivets. I anticipate another two weeks before the color goes on. My graphics will be the white checkerboard cowl and rudder, done up as F4U 1 D Sky, boss, with Yosemite Sam on both sides of the fuse.😊🇺🇸
@@Dynodon64 no I haven’t posted anything on CZcams, and will have to learn that process. However, my best friend and model airplane guru and scale Warbird Pilot has a channel on CZcams lomshivok1 that has plenty of scale models flying, including some of mine. Once I get this bird put together, I will be taking lots of pictures and I will try to get them posted on CZcams. Right now as you can imagine like your garage as you were building yours it’s tough to put a lot of things together, as you’re trying to get details and paint on. And my building space has many restrictions. When this model is done, it will be a high-performance super scale looking and worth close to $4000, not including paying for the time for the building of the model. Just the paint alone I have spent over $1100! Well, it’s time for me to get back to work on it. Talk to you later, buddy.
I've been running into the parts availability issues amd already working on lists of how and what i can replace... and need to. Always appreciate your updates!!
Don, I wish I lived closer than Denton tx. I would be there in a snap to help!! I can fit in there! 5'4"! LoL! Keep it up!! You only have 900hrs of test time left, no matter what everyone else says!! Safety 1st!!LoL!!
That cockpit must be starting to fit you, like a bespoke " Saville Row" suit brother, the re-engineering of parts and material's used must be of an equal if not higher standard than those of the seventies and easily much lighter in dead weight I would imagine. : )
I don't think most of us know how much Ground Testing is performed, before a first flight. While this seems drawn out to us, ultimately you're the one who has to be comfortable with the controls etc, before you take it aloft.
Most planes built today are kits. So they are easier to get in the air. This how I am doing it. When I feel that it's right, it will be ready. It's feeling better every time I make adjustments.
Yes, it has a bad stall problem. Look into the NACA 23000 series. They create a bubble over the wing before stall that creates prolong lift, until it pops.
Hello there < i been a big follower of your build and I Love the plane its one of my favorite planes. I just have a problem with the Japanese war kills , with I am not Japanese but I do live in Japan and I know pilots are not allowed to put war kills of American ships here on there aircraft. They were told they are not allowed with the American partnership.
Some A&Ps and pilots that watch your videos are speculating that you don't have a tailwheel endorsement and that you certainly are not current based on they see in your videos. have you had tailwheel training? When was the last time you flew a non lightsport with conventional gear as PIC? Go watch Trernt Palmers "Ground Loop Monster" video and get current before that guy bites you.
If problems keep come up, then yes, the updates will continue. When there is no problem to fix, then the flying will begin. All problems must be addressed before flight. There is no such thing as, it will be alright. I do have plans to add lights later, and also a gear blow down system. But they are not vital to flight at this time.
Glad to see you are solving each of these problems one at a time. First flight should go issue free.
That, my friend, is the goal.

No, I haven't, but, I know I still need to do it. So, thanks for reminding me. I may do it today, when I go back down.
Amazing project. You have limitless skill and patience.
How many hours invested to date?
Building this plane took thousands of ours. Most likely over 3000.
Why did you change the airfoil? Was there something wrong with the original airfoil?
Yes, it has a bad stall problem. Look into the NACA 23000 series. They create a bubble over the wing before stall that creates prolong lift, until it pops.
Hey Don come on out to nevada lol we are up
to 105 last week on to saturday next week but it is dry 😎 DA 7500 ft
