  • In this video, I’ll show you how I cover my full-size Sopwith Camel aircraft using the Stewart System fabric covering process. From prepping the airframe to applying and securing the fabric, and getting it ready for paint, I’ll walk you through each step. Watch as this iconic WWI fighter plane gets closer to its final restoration!

Mate, you're doing a beautiful job on her. You've got the right attention to detail for this work. Shame we live in an era where we have to spend a lifetime working at something rubbish and pointless for someone else to have an opportunity to do what our true calling is. Shame it'd be impossible to make a living doing this. You're a natural.

Looking fantastic and getting more like a camel each vid Scott 👍. It was a wet day here Tues, so I went through all my old model gear, engines etc. Found a new covering iron in the box with a $36.99 sticker on it. Lol

I'm enjoying the casual attitude you have when talking about what you are doing, yet the execution of your work is absolutly meticulous.

I went back and watched your previous videos, I admire your attention to detail and great workmanship. I had rebuilt a crashed 540 lyc Skybolt . It was fun to fly . I am sure you will have fun with this plane.

A sign shop may well be able to lay a gloss laminate on that wingstrut vinyl

Do the lighter color wood! Love the build.

Beautiful job on the covering. I'm still not sold on the plastic wood wrap. It seems a shame to put that on a plane this pretty. Have you looked at paper backed veneer? It should be flexible enough to wrap around the strut, and then you can just finish the wood to your liking.

    G'day Scott,
    Yay Team !
    It all looks lovely...
    Keep on keepin' on.
The B.O.M. is claiming we be in for a proverbial
Antarctic Blast of cold and wet, maybe even snow-bearing...; and you'd be a thousand miles closer to the
Pole than we are here (160 klicks South of the Qld Border).
Back before Global Warming started to bite we used to get Snow every year, 30 or 60 cm in total, across 2 or 5 Cold Spells..., and fairly regularly every 10 years we'd see 3 ft of Snow (a metre) in one Dump which lasted 2 or 3 days & took a week to melt away...; I've seen the pictures of that from 1956, in 1964 at age 3 my sister made a Snowman for me, in '74 the Home Weekend from Boarding-School became a Week off because Roads & Railways were cut (and all that was before Houses in Oz had Thermal Insulation !) - anyway, in 1984 after a month of Night Duty, my 4 days rostered-off became a week when the Snow from day-1 kept up till day-3 and then took four more for the icy Roads to re-open.
    By my reckoning...,
We be 29 years late - right now,
    For the otherwise missing
    1994
    Regular
    "Decadal 3-foot Snow-drop..." ;
Which my Family's 3 generations of living in this
Postcode before I arrived in 1961, had otherwise prepared me to
    Expect.
So, guess who spent today on the Chainsaw, ensuring my Hut & my daughter's Tent both have Wood stacked ready to split & burn.
If I get snowed-in..., then you might well need a set of Skis to be able to get to visit your
Camel (shivering within in it's icicle-encrusted "Stable")...?
I recall being surprised in 1974, when some Comedian actually did show up to the High-School in Glen Innes on
Snowskis ; "normally" they used to have to go down to Cooma in the Snowy Mountains -to be able to use the things.
    So, stay warm (!).
    Such is life,
    Have a good one...
    ;-p
    Ciao !

This will war you up Scott. It averages 36c in Virginia this time of year. I helped my father restore an Aeronica Champ in the early 1970`s.
