2010 Odyssey air modes not working easy diagnosis and fix

- My 2010 Odyssey would not change HVAC modes, so I couldn’t defrost the windshield. The LX has a self-diagnostic that told me that the door blend actuator was bad. I swapped it out and can now defrost the windshield. Fairly easy to do if you’re handy. The part should cost less than $125. The error code chart is on this page- www.odyclub.com/threads/2009-...
Here’s a video with more details that’ll help you change the part • 2005-2010 Honda Odysse...
Thank you Shmuel - your instructions were exactly what I needed. I replaced two parts yesterday on driver and passenger sides, ran diagnostics, and everything looks great!
I’m so happy to hear this!
Thia is so helpful none of the other videos show how to diagnose anything.
Thank you so much Mr. Bollen. This was incredibly helpful. Had an appointment scheduled at the dealership to have them tell me what was wrong with the rear AC unit not blowing. They wanted $190 to do a "diagnostic." I told them to pound sand when they said it would take them 2 hours. I should've known there was a button press for diagnostics. This 100% worked. I found my issue within 5 minutes & replaced the faulty fuse. Air blows & issue fixed.
Thank God you put this out there to help us save $ when dealerships are just out there to F as many people as they can.
Glad it helped.
What fuse was replaced if I may ask?
Using this, found that my mode motors front and rear were bad... ordered parts from Amazon,
Thank you, your video helped me fix my issue which was my defrost for the front windshield was stuck on that mode. Now that I replaced the motor in the video im able to alternate through all the modes and positions.
Great to hear! Happy travels.
Just followed these steps for my 2008 w/ 208K miles and this worked. Paid ~$150 for the OEM part from the dealer.
Awesome video. Great job explaining as having problems with my 2008 odyssey van heater now. Thank you.
Great to hear!
Thanks bro
Thank you so much. Great video!
Great video. Had similar problem. It took two reassembly attempts to make it work porperly. Make a special note that when putting the actuator back in to engage TWO damper levers. One is hard to see. It controls the floor outlets
Thanks. I have the same problem but where exactly is the actuator located?
@@tzegras You have to release the stopson the glove box door. It willthen tilt down to the floor. Look hard left andyou will see the actuator
So it seems that the previous owner enjoyed warm air while the passenger enjoyed colder. When I selected the AC, driver side was 78⁰ and passenger was on Low. Simply adjusted driver side to Low and all was right with the world!
Thanks for making this video!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this
What side you replace? I have same code and same issue and i believe there is 3 blend motors driver passenger and rear around lift gate
How do you know which of the actuators is bad? The guide just says one is bad, but there are a few different ones. Thanks
I have a problem, only 2 streaks appear
So what happens when the self test
Doesn’t work?! When I had the drivers side blend door off it gave me”open in drivers …” then after I cleaned the drivers blend
Door internally od the grease, it starts the self test than stops, with rear defrost on..
I have 2012, driver side is not cold enough but passenger is cold. I checked the actuater looks works fine. I removed the actuater and moved the gate by hand up and down but still no air colder than 73{driver side} hot air works fine. Do you know how to fix this issue? By the way, after driving 20 minutes all vents front rear left right give cold air! Is there's a way to reset the AC Al these issues showed up after replaced the battery!
Finally I found low freon!
Problem solved.
Hi! The only problem that i see is that you dont say if the part is located on the passenger side or driver side. Looks like you removed the glove box? Thanks
How do you get to that unit? From inside the vehicle? Do I have to take the dash apart?
It’s right behind the lower glove compartment. Lots of videos out there for that.
Do the diagnostics and replacement of the actuator apply to a 2011 odyssey? My dash looks a little different. Thank you. Great video.
Check this Odyclub post, it has instructions for running diagnostics on a 2011. www.odyclub.com/threads/hvac-front-mode-control-issues.368398/post-2484465
I only had air coming out of the dash vents, despite the mode button appearing to work. I followed your diagnostic instructions and got the same error code as you (A), so I also replaced the front mode actuator. Now it's stuck on the defrost vents and shows code C when I run diagnostics. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated 😊 Thank you!
How long does it take for the diagnostics to run? I get no reading so I can't tell if it's finished.
About a minute
So what is this error? Both passenger and drivers units? A and I no auto
Sounds like both your front and rear mode controls might need replacing. There are videos on YT for replacing the rear one.
My codes are ‘A’ and ‘J’. Where can I find part numbers for the front and rear mode actuators? Thanks.
Try this video for the rear, part numbers in the description czcams.com/video/1iTE0N5qosg/video.htmlsi=e_Ax8tBMx5euE135
And this one for passenger front czcams.com/video/P7Sw5uAMoSk/video.htmlsi=tfB677NXKeEG6Qgk
Thanks. I have the same problem but where exactly is the actuator located?
On drivers side . Look up towards center for a green connector.
Ya there’s like 4 of them
czcams.com/video/dE7dL2irBSQ/video.html this video will show you the location. Mine is bad too so now I just need to figure out the part number to replace it. It works for a few times if I tap on the actuator so I bet it has a stripped gear or something.

The contacts internally. Open up the motor. Clean. Reassemble. Careful with the clips
Which side (driver or passenger) is the actuator located? Thanks for the video, very helpful.
Passenger, right behind the lower glove box.
Where do I get the chart?
There’s a link in the description.
www.odyclub.com/threads/2009-odyssey-ac-question.309041/ Look for post #18 from July of 2020.
Swapped out what part? Actuator?
Yes, I swapped out the front mode control actuator. There is also a rear mode control actuator, but I didn’t get an error code for that.
@@shmuelbollen5253 awesome, thanks

would have been nice if you had of said which side its on , pass or driver side
