    I had this done today and I had no idea how much time and effort this took. A family shop did this for me, so glad I found them. The dealership would of cost me so much more. This defiantly has a lot of steps
    To get this out and replaced. Good job! I have a 2017 Clubman too.

    Thank you for posting this. I had to take out my shifter assembly in my F57 to repair the broken spring which causes the “Secure vehicle against rolling” error. This was very helpful.

    Thanks for the video, it saved me $3000 on my 2017 Clubman. Helpful hint, I didn't remove the seats, adjust both seats all the way down and all the way back gives you enough space to remove the panels. Another video explains how to change the $1 spring, instead of $900 for the shift assemble. I've had 4 minis (62 cooper, 68 clubman, 2001 cooper, 2017 clubman) and I promise this is the LAST one I'll ever own.

    If you don’t want to spend the money on the shifter assembly, and you have the “secure vehicle against rolling” message, you can just replace the torsion spring that holds the park sensor to the magnet. It’s literally a $5 spring and is known to fail.

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  Před rokem +2

      A good option as well! Given that's the problem. The spring goes bad and also the module within the unit sometimes fails internally which unfortunately the spring repair wont fix. .

    Hi Gavin 😃
    I know it’s a while back you made this video, but thanks anyway 🙏🏼
    We have had this fault message coming up saying our 2016 F56 Cooper SD is not in P and to pull handbrake. Car actually does go in Park (can’t roll away) but the sensor says it’s not 🙄
    BMW wants a fortune for the work, but with this video I will definitely give it a go. As other viewers already mentioned, it might be that just the spring inside is broken or bend, which would be my first wish/hope/attacking point.
    Would you happen to have the Part-number of that spring at hand? And do you think the shifter assembly you changed is the same for the F56? If yes, Part-number? (6 speed automatic with steering wheel paddles)
    Looking forward to your answer 🙏🏼🙋🏼‍♂️

Set brake when stopped. Possible to engage gear without depressing brake pedal. Engine start may be delayed. Consult service center." Sounds like you have a bunch of under voltage concerns that’s causing your other issues. I would remedy the drained/dead battery first, clear faults, and then see what issues you have after that. But sure sounds like all related to a dead battery.

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  Před 10 měsíci

      Hard shifting is typically not the concern for this. Likely some other issue. This is simply an error message in your dash that alerts you (falsely) that your car is in neutral and not parked properly…when it is.

It is possible of course for something like that to happen also. is that what happened to yours?

      @@GavinBlaesner I just did this job last weekend. Based on many commenters on a Mini forum I took the chance that it was a broken torsion spring inside the shifter. I bought a new spring on Ebay for $11. Followed your awesome video on removing everything (thank you!!!!). Opened up the shifter assembly and sure enough, that little spring was broken. Many Mini owners reporting this broken spring around 40k miles (I'm at 42k). The purpose of the spring is to move a magnet into place over a circuit board telling the car's computer that it's in park. If you're certain that your car is in park but the error message says that you are not, there's a good chance that this little spring has broken.

    This has nothing to do with a 17 mini cooper. Totally different interior

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  Před 2 lety

      Correct, standard cooper 2 door HT is much much much easier to remove the interior and console on, but the main portion and point of the video was to show how (and what unit) to remove and replace the solenoid. If I have the opportunity to make a video on a standard cooper I will show how to remove the interior as well. But the solenoid replacement is identical up to 19’/anything without the DCT.

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  Před 2 lety

      The HT interior is about 5/6 screws and bolts and the console comes right out. That shifter assembly can typically be done in 30 mins compared to a clubman.
