Not only did Benson play with Savoie over the past two seasons with the Winnipeg Ice, but he also played with Peyton Krebs with the Ice in 20-21, so if he does get to Buffalo in a few years, imagine a line with Krebs, Savoie and Benson...call it the 'Ice' Line!!
I wouldn't call sharks taking Smith a coward pick the sharks liked Michkov the player but weren't so sure about the person and it seems like Michkov was being very picky on what team he wanted to get drafted by.
Very true. I think Michkov simply didn't want to play on the west coast. Maybe most Russians don't like the hot desert sun.
I did not expect Benson to be available at Buffalos pick. Love it

He actually never left his seat for the entire draft, he was waiting all day because he didn’t want to miss his name be called. He told the Blue Jackets that all he needed was a chance, and he will do everything to prove them right.
He has the mindset of a winner, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him become a great player one day
I think you are underrating Simashev here he’s like probably the best 6’4 skater the league has ever seen so fast so agile and some of the skate fakes he makes defies human logic. Was hoping hard for Buffalo to take him at 13th but obviously he didn’t make it that far but he’s such a beast easily the best Dman of the class for me.

The reason Arizona didn't take Michkov is he apparently told them if they drafted him he'd refuse to sign

Can't blame Michkov. He was well-advised by his agent. The Coyotes organization is a mess and until they move from Arizona and play in an NHL caliber skating rink they should be off of any prospect's list of teams to play for.

I’m not a Caps fan, but I have to say they had an excellent draft. Got a few guys I really wanted in spots that were big time values for the pick. But I’m also happy for my Flyers!

The fact Ryan Leonard looked ecstatic is promising for the Caps. Looked really happy going to them. Could be developed into a NHL C too eventually. I know he's going to BC next season but I hope he joins the big club in 2024-25

Agree. The real sleeper, however, is their 2nd round pick Roman Kantserov. He has great speed and skating ability and an outstanding shot. He is a bit undersized at 5' 9" but very athletic and muscular at 180 lbs.

dallas got so insanely lucky with arno tiefensee. he was insane in germany. i believe he is the best goalie in this draft class and gonna be a monster in about 3 years.

The 3rd round player winnipeg took was actually really wanting to go to the Jets. He has family in Manitoba including his mother. So that pick is very good, they get a player who wants to be there.

Michkov won’t be in the US for this season, however, he said he’ll come to development camp next year. He can void his KHL contract by serving one year of military service, which is what Fedotov has to do
Don’t agree with the ASP statement when it comes to Vancouver. They don’t need another offensive minded dman with Hughes and hronek. Willander it’s a more 2way d and will be able to be the much needed d partner that Hughes needs
I think Willander was a great pick for the Canucks. He was the exact kind of player they needed, a larger right shot two way Dman who can play really solid defence but still has offensive upside. I think he could end up being Hughes’ D partner on the top line in a few years.

I think people are forgetting just how much Draft Capital the Blackshear have over the next 3 seasons (actuall, it kinda began in 2022).
Anyway, along woth the massive haul of young Talent they accumulated in this the 2023 Draft, they also have two Draft Picks in each of the first 3 Rounds in 2024!
Then they have the exact same number in 2025! Two 1st, two 2nd, and two 3rd Round Picks!
And in 2026, they already have an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick.
They have Draft Capital and Cap Space/Money to spend on FAs.
They could also put together several different combinations of Trade Packages to any number of Teams.
The past 2 Drafts have been about getting as much young talent as possible.
Getting Connor Bedard and Oliver Moore this year...
That is just a major bonus!
The Blackhawks definitely have a very exciting future ahead of them!
As a life long fan, I can't wait!

I gotta say I was surprised that the Ducks chose Carlson over Fantilli but I am not upset. The two play the same position different ways but both are very effective. We will see in four or five years who got the better player, but I think even then it will be a pick your poison type choice. They will both probably do very well.

I’m so glad the Sabres can finally cook when it comes to the draft. They don’t overthink it and just take the player with the highest potential (I’m looking at you Arizona).
Simashev has the best shot of being a #1 Dman, But probably has the highest ceiling in the entire draft. They took moonshot swings on potential and didnt draft off NA consensus internet draft lists. Moritz Seider was projected in the teens in 2019, Detroit made a shocking pick at 6 for him and its worked out pretty well.
@@MB-er4hn Yes, but there were a lot of other D-men available, but also a ton of more forwards available, such as Michkov, who have absolute superstar potential.
@@thepowerwithin9865 Michkov didnt want to sign with AZ. So scratch that. AZ wasnt leaving without Simashev whom they think is a unicorn top D.
@@MB-er4hn News flash, nobody wants to get drafted and sign with Arizona, but for a guy like Michkov who has 3 years to weigh in that decision and hopefully Arizona can finally make an intriguing enough team for him to play on, they should’ve taken the chance and got Simashev at 12 which he more than likely would’ve been still. As far as I’m concerned, Arizona has 0 forward depth and apart from Clayton Keller, everyone else is a huge mystery on how they will develop.
I love Hoyt pick for the Sens and then trading their 1st for Chychrun we get a better player than most players in that area anyways get why it's a low grade though not sure it should be an F though
as. Rangers fan, I hated our draft aside from Perreault. Idk why Drury and co always go for overagers in the later rounds, they almost never work out. Take some swings. But Perreault is a home run swing that I like at 23. He's got warts but he's an offensive dynamo, playing at BC should be good for him.
Nathaniel Day is a former teammate from 2019 on the Niagara North stars and imo he could end up being the best goalie out of this draft. When he's confident its almost impossible to score on him.

I'd give the Wings like a C+ Danielson a good pick but safe pick and a bit early Sandin Pellikka is their best value pick and then Augustine is the only other pick I like for the Wings the rest are reaches or just meh players with minimal potential if you counting trades than the Yamamoto Kostin trade bumps them up to like a B for me but off solely picks I'd give them a C+ still early though to rank drafts obviously

Minnesotas second pick fell in to nostalgia tier in my opinion as an life long Wild fan, Kumpulainen is very similar to Mikko Koivu in size and play style. As an Finnish perosn it is always fun to see a fellow Finn get picked but im not sure about that one.

idk about generational, but I think he's got Kane or Kucherov potential. Maybe if you consider generational to be 10 years and country, but Kaprizov is also a beast.
If they get a Kucherov player at #7 thats a steal also got some good late round picks in Sotheran, Barkey and that Russian Goalie

Cowan. I think he is a pretty underrated guy in this draft no doubt they could’ve traded back to like the 2nd round to draft I totally agree. But I think he is a perfect player for the leafs. The leafs always goes “out of box” picks.
If you’ve seen the post draft interview of Treliving he made it clear there wasn’t any trades of value to make so they drafted him early

Not all that exciting of a pick but one that was needed and he will probably be pretty good....Big kid too.
Lots of analysts i follow online had Simashev and But in the too 10-15, so not that much of a reach, really. Also cant really fault them for not taking michkov since they likely knew he wouldnt sign with them ever.
Also, to me, seemed like there were lots of russians taken in this draft, so i dunno if ppl were really that nervous about them
So the moral of this draft is why didn’t people take Benson, Mishkov, or Cristall.
Pens 7th rounder is supposed to be a steal. Emil Jarvenete was ranked around 90 ish on a few scouts list.

I can help explain the yotes draft picks here. They didn’t go michkov because he didn’t sound excited to play for them and they went But and Simashev because they showed interest in playing for the yotes. They didn’t expect Simashev to be there by pick 12 so they took a chance and got him at 6. They reached a bit for the 2 but looking back on it, it makes sense.

Sharks were told by Michkov team that he wanted to go to a bigger market team and essentially don’t draft him. Smith was the best player who they knew would be pet of their club, and you left Cagnioni off your discussion who has been destroying the competition this year!
As a caps fan I was really hoping to get mitchkov but I was really happy with Crystal and Cam Allen, I'm not firmilar with Ryan Lenard. TacTix how many years outside of playing in the NHL is he and should I be happy with him.

I have a legitimate question, why does the NHL draft prospects so early? It seems like such a crap shoot and one that could be mitigated if not completely avoided by just drafting these kids later? Why not say “you can’t enter the draft until you’re ready to play in the NHL the next season.” It just doesn’t make sense to me

I’m a habs fan definitely not the biggest fan of this draft. However really like slafkovisky as a power forward with zuks and caufield. Also getting land Hutson was the biggest steal of the draft. This year I think Fowler was a top 3 goalie in the draft. Reinbacher was a bit disappointing but still not a bad pick in my opinion to pair with Hutson. Florian was an absolute reach

McMicheal has been pretty disappointing considering the hype around him early on. Already 22 and hasn’t established himself as an NHLer and well under a PPG in the AHL. Lapierre is in the same boat, loads of high praise and subpar so far.
Don’t get into the habit of penciling your lineup 3 years into the future with shiny prospects, it never works out that way.

While I think the wings did good, I don't think they were A+ good. You even said you questioned the 9th pick, but still gave an A+

Willander is better than ASP, especially for our team fit. We don't need a small budget Quinn Hughes just because he plays the right side.. They made the right choice, while you could argue Benson would have been a great pick as well we do not need undersized wingers..
Wood and Moore would have been equally as good picks, but we're so lacking in the decent defender prospect pool.
The Canucks did much better, with what they had, than the Wings did. Reached so far for Danielson(projected around 19-21), but didn't punish them in your ranking. Canucks skip a layer and "reach so far" for Willander(most rankings had him 18th-20th averaged out)
I wonder out of curiousity what percentage of each draft make it to the NHL. It feels like 90% of players dont end up in the big show.
That's why this year was so special, easily half of these guys make it.
@@mtgbrewery7239 Yeah I ended up looking it up, and the average was about 47% of players drafted play at least 1 game. But I couldnt find how many of them have a "decent" career. I guess youd have to define decent careers to figure it out mathmatically, but interesting none-the-less.

2003, often regarded as the best draft in recent memory, had 70 players play 200+ games in the NHL. Out of 292 draftees, that’s about 24%.
200 games is used just because that’s when these guys qualify for the NHL pension.
@@Amm17ar200 games is usually the benchmark to say someone had an NHL career, due to that being when they qualify for the pension.

Red wings get a C because they drafted no goal scoring help, which they lack as well as not trading for DeBrincat, but most of the picks were decent.
Non of these guys will help the Wings for 2-5 years. Draft the best player available not what you need atm.

What's with his obsession with the 2019 draft and players he's managed? Seems like he's got a chip on his shoulder... At least biceps would've snap chose Michkov if he wanted to play for us or not... And if they wanted a goalie Hrabal was there and we could've for Colton over Newhook SMH
@@mtgbrewery7239 I was pleasently surprised with Dach but Newhook ain’t it.. he’s short 1 year older than Dach was and it feels like he’s peaked to a 3rd line center. As for Reinbacher, im sure he’s really good but just not Michkov good.
