      I found out later he wasn't a drug addict or alcoholic, he had a gambling addiction. He would go play slot machines with other peoples money lol.

      Amen! You are spot on! That is exactly what I was about to post, so I decided to just reply to your post. The problem is many people don't realize that we are supposed to be GOOD stewards over 100% of what has blessed us with. My former Pastor made a great analogy years ago. Tithing and then being financially irresponsible (mismanaging) the rest of our finances is like eating a giant Snicker's candy bar and then drinking a large diet coke hoping the diet coke will negate the calories in the large candy bar. Life (giving) does not work like that. So instead of blaming God that a spiritual principle is not working in our life, perhaps we need to examine our own heart and our motives.

      What about the parable of the 10 talents in Matthew 25?
      The man had entrusted his "goods" to his servants, went on a journey, and returned to "reckon" with them,
      the first two servants were faithful and "invested" their master's talents to produce a two-fold increase,
      the third servant was "unprofitable" and did not invest, he dug a hole in the earth and "hid" his master's talent.

    • @gamefacexxix
      @gamefacexxix Před rokem +9

      @Jason-Austin It would be better if you looked at the "talents" in that passage as more applicable to the good news of the Gospel than tithed money.
      People that tithe money are expecting the interest from that financial investment to be their rewards. In this passage, the Master that gave the talents expects the interest to be His; not His servant that was given the talent.
      1 Corinthians 3:7-8 ~ So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
      God gains increase of redeemed souls from our sharing the Gospel and we are reward for our labor; not the funds given for the labor.

      @cierrahp9702, Most people are greedy. Most people like to choose how much they are giving. As if that wasnt enuff, people like to choose for themselves who they think needs it more. Thats not How God blesses His kids. When we freely give because we love Him, and we know our Pastor is a Jesus obedient child of God, The Spirit in you, will change your heart and you will be over joyous that you got to bless God. God loves givers. The more you give to people, you will not lack nothing. Thats not your tithe. God does bless you for tithing. The real over-flowing blessings come from God. Because you didnt have too. You did it with a clean loving respect for The Lord. He judges our hearts, never forget that! satan doesnt want you to know any of this! he knows God will bless you. Why you think all kinds of reasons come into your mind about why you dont have too? I also believe, we should tithe when it does hurt. When you know you have it, and you think nothing of it, that is not the same thing. I remember having credit bills, and having to choose, who gets it first. You give it to God. You are trusting God and testing God, to provide for you. God tell us to try and test Him, and see if He doesnt open the windows of Heaven, and pour you out such a blessing you will be in over flows!! God didnt say this just to me. He said it in His word. When you do start tithing, pray first and repent for all the times you put Him at the bottom. Get your heart right and cleaned out. Be humble about it, and respectful. He is Lord God Almighty, and He loves you. We believers need to believe the whole bible. Not just the parts that we like. Being obedient to God's whole bible. The old and The new testiment. This is what I believe, if it wasnt in the bible, it wasnt meant for us. This is what I believe, if you dont, that ok too. If you find it interesting, go ask God what it He means. Just because someone is a preacher or teacher in God's words, doesnt mean everybody knows everything. You, go to God. satan cant mess round with God. satan is very afraid of God. satan is the father of all lies. God is the reason we can believe God doesnt lie.

    • @michaelalbertson7457
      @michaelalbertson7457 Před rokem +1

      A tithe is a tenth. Call it whatever else you want, it can still be used illicitly by the ones in charge.
      Also, seed offerings, I do not really believe they are what God intended, but seem to be a reason to gain material wealth (they suppose gain is godliness), are hugely abused by a lot of churches, it's akin to a prosperity gospel. Yet, I will not dispute that God will tell us to give more, for His purposes to draw us closer to Him. If we fall away after giving a seed and prospering, it can't be God...unless, through that, we see we were in it for us, and repent, and obey God.
      I lean towards tithing on net income, because taxes get so high, you have much less income to live on. It seems that net is increase, gross makes you tithe in the taxes you paid, the tax part not bring an increase.
      God knows exactly what He is doing.
      His purpose is salvation for us. When we know that, we strive more to obey Him rather than live for ourselves.

      They need to call it “Give Out Of Generosity” and that’s it. I just found out recently about offerings and modern Christianity lied about both tithes and offerings. Tithes was never money but food, herds, flocks, etc. It was to support the Levites, widows, orphans, and the poor……God makes it plain and clear about what those two were. There were many types of offerings in Bible. You can read majority of them in Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy. Grain offering, trespass offering, sin offering, meat offering, etc. to name a few. Offerings today has nothing to do with what God said. That’s why it’s very important to read & study your Bible instead of going by what your Mom, Dad, Pastor, etc are saying. 🙏🏽💖💯

      @@No_bread-and-circuses Tithing was never about money. It was about food during times that Jewish people was to store food and other gatherings in storehouse containers. Only Jews of agriculture or owned land were to practice this method. Not all Jews who didn’t have land was required. Second, it was never a commandment by God and it applies to only the Jews. The priests were in charge of overseeing that the tithes or foods were taken place. Some priests became corrupt and God commanded Malachi to tell the priest to return back the tithes that they had rob. Tithes we’re about preparation for God and it’s people from famine. Today teaching of tithes teach to financial give to God and order for a return. This is idolatry and not biblical! There’s no commandment for New Covenant Believers to pay tithes. Tithing wasn’t for the Christians because we are purchase with the blood of Christ. Jesus became our slain lamb and paid the ultimate price for us. We are cheerful givers and give from the heart not looking for anything in return. Whenever Christians believe that their tithing for better circumstances, money, relationships or a return in giving, it’s called idolatry. You’re giving because you want a return investment. God owns all things. He don’t needs money to help finance our lives and needs. How could you place a percentage amount or value to give God such as 10 percent? Tithing in the Old Testament was up to 33 percent and every 3 years during the Jewish festival they gave equally to everybody to have. Now, that’s the practice of tithing. Do today churches give back money to the people who contributed supporting them every 3 years with a Jewish festival of celebration? I’m not say don’t give because we are commanded to give in all areas of your life not just the church but it’s not tithing or a measuring amount or money.

    It's sad that people blame God because they're 'poor' or 'broke.' So not true. It's most likely because of how you choose to spend what you do have. We are required to be good stewards. So if you're limited on funds yet pay for cable or satellite tv, have to have the latest phone, more gadgets, a newer car (with the payments that come with it), more home than you can afford, eat out, go to movies, ...... well, you get the picture..... then that's on you. As Corey said, learn to be content. And by all means, stop being influenced by marketing that tries to tell you what you need.

      its sad that everyone thinks everyone got themselves into poverty and it couldnt be other reasons! true for ALOT out there, but not EVERYONE!! so what do you do when you dont do all that stuff, live in poverty on disabiblity money and it only covers the basics and you cannot make any more. its covers my bills, my food and not even all my medical costs or sudden expnses that come up and little things like sponges or a furnace filter or a part for my old car or the other 100 little things that you need and come at you in life and you struggle bad. im disabled from a broken neck and have chemical illness from a chemical exposure and have to avoid the world as im allergic to all fragranced products like scented laundry, plug-ins, febreze, lysol, soaps, etc. i have to use all unscented stuff. so i cannot even go around people because veryone wears that stuff. i cannot work right due to both illness/injury and dont eat out, dont have netflix and all that stuff (i use a free roku with no paid channels on a $90 5 yr old tv). i dont go to starbucks, dont buy ANYTHING EVER for enjoyment, i use an old flip phone, dont go out (im homebound due to my illness), the cheapest place i can find to live. cheap old worn out clothes. so now what that i cannot drop anything off my monthly expenses and cannot make more money and its all my fault everyone says why im poor. jesus said by his stripes we are healed, well if i could get my healing i could help my slef. see everyone wants to put in the person themselves making bad choices. ive lived on eggs, bread and water for years at a time. ITS NOT ME OR MY FRIKIN SPENDING habits that everyone always like to say is the problem. so when is it on God? when can he just help if we need it! i dont blame him for the circumstances, but i get aggravted at no hlep and then people talking like your post saying its our own fault. i dint splill the chemical that made me sick. i didnt rear end myself 4 times and not have car ins to cover somebody i hit like 3of those people who hit me with one of them breaking my neck. how far do you hav to sacrifice and miss out on everything and for how long? yes many people spend like you say and get themselves into this. i did NOT. I never lived like that and always was a penny pincher to begin with and lived and meager life, then i got injured, then i got sick and its even worse now. and the kicker is i dont want THINGS! i just want to be able to live ok, eat better/healthier and not live in fear of getting by. and my church says the answer is giving god my food money for the month (cant give him my bill money or im homeless so tithe comes out of my food money then, and food pantrys only go so far per month) and then trusting him that' he'll feed me and replce my food. ive tried, then end up begging friends/family to feed me. so what shall i do since i dont have all those frivilous expenses you say everyone has that gets them into debt and keeps them in debt? not all people living in poverty did it or do it to themselves.

I just never saw tithing in the New Testament, but did so anyways because that is what so many pastors were teaching, but mainly because I wanted to please God! They also teach, your offering should be above and beyond your tithe! Some of things I just don’t see in scripture! One day I asked the Lord, why can’t I give just because I love You!! Not because I want something in return. Giving to get is not right even when you’re dealing with people! I give because of the love of God inside of me! The key to understanding how God wants us to give to the Church is found in 1 Corinthians 16:2, “On the first day of the week [Sunday] each of you should set aside whatever he can afford,” and in 2 Corinthians 9:5-8,
    So I thought it necessary to encourage the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance for your promised gift [donation], so that in this way it might be ready as a bountiful gift and not as an exaction. Consider this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do as already determined without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work.
    To paraphrase: God doesn’t demand a fixed amount of money from us; he wants us to give from the heart. If people are forced by their church to give a certain percent of their income, that’s extortion. If they give freely and cheerfully the amount they are able, that’s a gift.

  • @technicaldifficulties6392

    I struggled with this for the longest time, but as I grew in my faith this is how I perceive it. Tithing/giving teaches us to not to be consumed by money whether we have a lot or a little. Jesus talked about how we are not to worry about where our food, clothing, shelter comes from as He always provides. That provision is in the form of a job, a place to live, and a car to drive. Even if we don't own and/or have "it all", He still provides. Aside from that, tithing changes other's lives and if we are to be walking examples of Christ we are to care more for others than ourselves.

      We are no longer instructed to give a certain amount to Levites based on law, but we can absolutely give a tenth (tithe) to the church if we so choose to do so.
      And the fact remains, that whether it's a tenth, 5%, or 20% it is still a way to humble ourselves before God in the same way that Abraham humbled himself before God by giving a tenth.

  • @BEABEREAN10
    @BEABEREAN10 Před rokem +14

    The original purpose of the tithe from Abraham towards Melchizedek (type of Christ) was humility before God. It's a recognition that the victory was a result of God, not the skill of his own army. In the same way, it is God who empowers all of us to get wealth (not riches, but provision) through what we put our hands to (our natural jobs), and therefore God deserves the recognition of that through our giving! Not of necessity, but as a way for us to humble ourselves before Him as ultimate provider.
    This is important because the Bible says if we humble ourselves before God, he will exalt us! We see this exact thing happen to Abraham. He gives the tithe (ch 14) and in chapter 15 God establishes the covenant with Abraham which blessed all the earth through Christ!
    So it's not that the tithe itself brings blessing and power to us...but the tithe is a method we can use to humble ourselves before God. And then God is able to use humble vessels for his glory!
    As far as it being 10%, I'd say that's a great goal so that we can be like our father Abraham (we are now seeds of him - gal 3:29) but it should not be out of obligation, fear, or a desire to get more. Abraham's giving was about humility.
    If you were Abraham's children, you would do as Abraham does! John 8:39

    • @Avendale
      @Avendale Před rokem +2

      The "original purpose" of the tithe was to be a provision for the Levite priests who were servicing the Temple.
      The Levites could not own land, so they depended on the tithe offerings for much of their provision.
      Tithing was to be done only on the "produce of the land" and the "flocks of the herd" (Leviticus 27:30-32)
      Nowhere in scripture do we ever read of anyone giving money as a tithe offering.
      Abraham tithed only "of the spoils" of the war he had fought and won to get his nephew Lot free.
      *Hebrews 7:4* Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
      Nowhere do we ever read of Abraham tithing of his own possessions, he tithed only of the spoils to Melchizedek, and he did this only one time, it was not a recurring practice like it was for the children of Israel.

Im open to truth, so if the Lord convinced me to start paying tithes that I need to go find a local sheep, goat, etc farm and start growing my own produce so I can sacrifice it to our God. I like to stick to scripture so no one can twist my arm to give money out of fear or obligation. When you study the Old Testament about the purpose of paying the tithes to the Levites it makes sense, because they didn't have land plus it was their job to take care of the temple. So, the other 11 tribes supported them. That's a beautiful system.

    The Law of Moses was bondage, now we are no longer under the law, admonished to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free.
    We have two chapters in the new testament, 2Cor8,9, which concern our giving, and the benefit thereof.
    Giving is a matter of grace being established in our hearts by the Spirit of God, wherein God is able to make all grace abound toward you. Giving establish your righteousness, wherefore it is written, He has dispersed abroad, he has given to the poor, his righteousness remains forever.
    The tithe does not accomplish what grace can brind about.
    If you want to give away 90% of your money, make sure you take care of your personal obligations first, pay your rent, buy your groceries, pay your car note, buy clothes for your children. You cannot glorify God by not paying your debts, and neglecting your family. That is being worse than an infidel.
    Grace brings us to the place that we take pleasure in helping those in need. It also gives us confidence toward God, and assures our hearts before him. For faith worketh by love, and whatever we ask of him, we receive because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight 1Jn 3.

      God bless you! You're very grounded and wise. I just started in a church that I love only been there for a little over a month. One Sunday, the pastor started with the tithing and threw in, the being a cheerful giver. I felt uncomfortable Am thinking your using both. I also felt sick in my stomach because am saying here we go again dear God really!
      So he's using both. I honestly believe he doesn't know any better. We have spoken
      Young Pastor and beautiful wife who loves Jesus Christ. and I am hoping to talk to him and his wife but can't find the words . I have some videos to send them to help, like this one. It is so frustrating. How messed up the church is when it comes to sound docturn
      I tithe all the years I was in church
      Not knowing it was free will through grace and not through guilt and twisting of God's words.
      I was told I would be robbing God. I never ever felt right It just never made sense from the God I knew that gave his one and only son to free me out of bandage. How I wished as a baby christain I knew better.
      When I couldn't afford the 10% as a single parent some months I would have not given 10%😢 breaks my heart just thinking about how tight things got some months. And how God would have not wanted me to give when it wasn't cheerful. I would have still given from my heart what I could and be very cheerful to know it was freely from the heart and not forced because I believed wow! It probably hurt Jesus Christ as it hurt me money wise and heart wise. I did not
      understanding why God would want me and my son to give and lack in our needs. And the truth be told
      I was robbing God of his sacrifice and sinning not respecting he took a beating on the cross to give me and all of humanity that freedom from the law. So by going back to the law of tithing is like spitting in his face again putting him back on the that cross . Instead of fear and reverence, that is so wrong and twisted . So the blessing people believe there receiving while bragging about Tithing is bandage coming from the enemy he's keeping man in the darkness of the law because of lack of knowledge. We give under grace not law because law and tithing goes had in hand. Its a slave word. That was abolished nailed to the cross. Jesus said it his finished. It's anew day we offer now we free will
      And further more never tell what your offering or giving when it comes to money. It's between you and God. Or giving to help someone Foolishness. The Bible speaks of that. The 10% It was known before because it was a law. I was a baby Christian who didn't know better. I so wish I knew about this. It hindered my Christian walk as much as I loved God. I felt it wrong deep in my spirit it made no sense For so many years for this to just really come to the surface, the enemy is surely working overtime time. I can honestly say you have said it the best . Thats whats in my heart from the Holy Spirit.( I am in the word a lot . And I've prayed a lot for insight on hidden truth since Covid. I left the church. I've been doing home church. It was God who pulled me to stay home. The Holy Spirit home churches me
      I felt worn out and beaten down from work, so call friends and religious church people. In that time , I have been asking God a lot of questions, and I must say he has delighted me with many hidden answers He showned his light on scriptures and delivered a many revelations:). I asked about tithing just didn't know how to word it all out loud. So I wrote down everything you said. God bless you. Reading your words has given me inner peace. Every word you spoke is a washing that it's so much deeper then I was planning on sharing with my pastor and wife
      I have been burdened through Christ to talk to them. I don'twant anyone to go throughwhat my son son and I experience
      Very unhealthy God is not a God of confusion. Believe you me my son and I were confused with that kind of wrong teaching. We are both
      learning to love and trust God in the same way he first loved us he has asked us to trust his love. It goes back to the cross. Freely given. Now we are to practice just that. I have never understood why God would force me to give on the times I didn't have it. It really upsets me that the church tarnished my understandings of how I could have given all these years freely. I wish we could talk honestly. You feel like a lifeline. If possible
      please let me know
      I just not have heard anyone and I mean anyone speak this tithing so Christ like❤
      I how have free long distance on my home phone. I kept my home phone part of my bundle. And a bit of wisdom :) Honestly, it would mean the world to me. If not, I would understand . I feel like I am in the twilight zone. 😂 Am a bit of a loner God has graciously removed pretty much everyone. I have a new start on life. To God I give all glory and honor
      in Jesus mighty name .
      God will bless you for your post ( Hebrew 4:12)(Galatians-2:20). And of course if it wasn't for the next verse none of this would matter Jesus died and rose again so we can have life abundantly and eternity 😂 no greater love 8:57

    This is a wonderful and sound teaching on tithing. It would have changed a whole lot of things for the Body of Christ, if we could have been taught this years and years ago. I tithe, and have been tithing for all my Christian life. I came to the realization that tithing was not a New Testament “obligation” through studying, and hearing other ministers teach on it. I STILL TITHE. Its a choice I make. I pay offerings also. It’s between me and my Father, God that I do it. Not under threat of a curse (Malachi 3:9) or anything other thing a “preacher” could come up with to make me give. I give out of my love for God, the OWNER of EVERYTHING.

    I would like to point out also that if we look back at the Genesis 14:18-20
    18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying,
    “Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
    Creator of heaven and earth.
    20 And praise be to God Most High,
    who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
    Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
    take notice to what happened first: Melchizedek in verse 19 blessed Abram! Next you see that Abram gave a tenth of all. So these phony, pimp, profit, prosperity preachers would say give the tithe first and then you'll be blessed, but this passage doesn't support their false teaching. They don't like going to Malachai because we know through context that God commanded Israel to tithe under the Mosaic covenant and we are not under the Law! Huge disclaimer!!!! THE TITHE WAS NEVER MONEY!!! Let's pray that they who legalize tithing, putting folk under condemnation would repent of the foolery! If you decide in your heart you want to give a tenth of your money well do so cheerfully because God loves a cheerful giver! Whatever you give, give it with a cheerful heart! AMEN? I agree! Tithes was NEVER money. God makes it plain and clear what tithe was. Tithe was food, herds, flocks, etc. It was to support the Levites, orphans, widows, and the poor. I read all verses regarding tithes and there was not a single verse talking about giving tenth of your income. Man misinterpreted that. It has nothing to do with God. Now I do remember Deuteronomy 14:24-26 states that if you’re not able to carry your tithe (when traveling) then you can exchange it for money and use the money to whatever you desire. This is why it’s very important to read & study God’s word. The answer is right there in your face and it just went over your head. 🤦🏽‍♀️💯

    Thank you for this teaching. Many preachers talk about tithing and giving interchangeably as though they are the same thing. They are not. Abaham's tithe to Melchizedek has been distorted. He did it on the spoils of war, voluntarily, after he had been blessed. The term tithe here may have meant "the best of". I seriously doubt that Abraham had a tithing accountant measuring out an exact 10%. It was a once off act, there is no indication that it was ever repeated. Circumcision also existed before the law; how many churches insist upon that nowadays? I also seriously doubt that the NT Apostles and disciples were practicing tithing, especially to a priesthood that was persecuting them. Giving (with a good heart) is a Godly, eternal principle and that is the standard for NT believers. I personally practiced tithing, diligently and with a good heart for 7 years (thankfully I did not bust myself), and the windows of heaven never opened for me (or anyone else I knew who was also doing it).

    Your comments are spot on. I wish I knew this long ago.
    The problem has to do with people confusing the two covenants. Tithing as a requirement doesn't make sense in the New Testament. First of all, it is never mentioned in the Pauline, Johannine, and Petrine epistles in the context of believers giving. Additionally, the Pauline epistles, by and large, are written to churches of Jew/Gentile mix. Why would God command Gentile believers to tithe, given that Gentiles were never under the old covenant? It's embarrassing, that back in the day, I swallowed the argument for tithing uncritically.
    I do think that giving should be primarily to the local church if the finances of the church are transparent.

      @RepentOrPerishL133 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @juliansevin9109 If you observe the verses that come before and after it's not talking about money. It's talking about judging. As @markb7067 stated it is the manner in which we judge, forgive, and dispense mercy. The church is so precondition to associate giving with money, that they ignored the context of what was being communicated in the verses before and after. The idea of money doesn't fit the context. The church (pastors) treat tithing as if it is an inoculation against trials and dark times. Somehow, that's for the people in the Bible, not us. When I was downsized from my job, I was tithing. Ask Christians, when Paul said he learned to be content in little, the "little" he was experiencing was because he didn't tithe? Tithing was a "requirement" under the Old Covenant. It was required, but they still had to go through the priest to have interaction with God. Now that you we been brought near to God and can go boldly before God, through Christ, how much should you/we give?

    I agree w/your words on tithing. Even so...The Bible (both OT and NT) is full of Scriptures on Giving: to the poor and to the work of The Lord. With those Scriptures...they are equally full of PROMISES FROM GOD HIMSELF about the outcome - to you, IN THIS LIFE of that giving: There's not enough space for me to give all of these. It doesn't change the fact that God PROMISES wealth returned back to you, from the wealth that you gave (sowed). These are promises! These therefore are irrespective of whatever your motives are. Indeed, there's nothing wrong with expecting a return back from what you've sown...for God promises that. He obviously desires this...as it builds faith.
