I just installed new shocks on my 2004 F-150 following your instructions and it took me about half an hour to finish. I feel like I need to send this guy a check for all the videos he's made. He has saved me a lot of money because of his videos. Thank you!
Did you have to take the wheel off? Or jack the rear
@@frankmischler4424 No, I just went underneath the truck and changed them out.
@@n.c.2537 gonna be doing mine tomorrow.
You sir are a gold mine, especially these days with everybody over charging and people holding on to their vehicles. You have saved us millions I’m sure. Do you have a donation page? You deserve to be compensated for these videos. You save us thousands and if everyone benefiting from these videos would donate a fraction of those savings I think it would be a win win for everyone. Every f-150 owner should get these rear shocks! I waited 2 long years to replace mine, huge difference, no more bouncing, finally!
Your vids are great.. I just made my 18 year old son watch this and he replaced the shocks on his 06 F150 himself.
Nice!
You're an awesome dad! Nothing like a little sweat equity to build character.
Wow. Just changed mine on my 2013 F150 FX4. HUGE difference. No more hop. Just incredible. Thanks for the vid!
I’m getting rear vibration and hop sometimes at lower speeds. Looking to do this on my 14 F150. Did you use these exact shocks? I want bilsteens but when I look up on Amazon it says they don’t fit my truck
Installed new shocks on my 2006 f150. This video made the job easy. Never would have thought I would be doing my own small mechanic jobs but you have made it much less intimidating. Thanks !
Truck or car you are one of the best people to refer to for ford repairs hands down. Excellent video
this guy man... couldnt thank him enough for all the knowledge hes shared for FREE to all of us ..
Just put those on my truck (rears). Holy moses these are the best shocks I have ever owned. Planning on doing the front struts when money gets better.
Chris DIYer what did you feel the biggest difference was with the new shocks?
Marc Rigau just added these on my truck in the rear. I feel there is no wheel hop and makes my truck ride like a “Cadillac” like some people say. My F-150 has 45k miles so my old shocks are not bad. Just not as smooth as these.
I just replaced my shocks with the bilstein 5100 series. It was exactly like you showed and even easier because you displayed the process. Thank you so much!!! Someone owes you a mouth hug! Lol thanks man!
Did this yesterday. No idea why I waited so long. It was stupid easy. Thanks Brian!
Ive been putting it off for 9 months...decided its time to get it done. So glad i looked at this video...
It's 2020 and this guys just saved me $350. Thank you sir.
Just installed these same exact shocks on my 2013 f150. Took me about 30 minutes with a ratchet and wrench. Great video. Thanks for the help and info!
Just got a pair. How have they held up? I've heard great things about bilstein
Great video. Installed these on my 07 F150 FX4 tonight. I noticed a huge difference right away over some speed bumps in my neighborhood. I compressed my old factory shocks and one of them took two minutes to fully extend from complete compression.
Excellent video.
I helped a buddy put his in yesterday, took about 30-40 min.
Thank you!
Super clear and straight-forward. Thank you sir.
I know how to replace shocks, but I wanted to be sure before diving into it with my new truck. There's always some new crap to worry about with all of the over-engineering put into current vehicles.
Looking forward to installing new shocks now that I know the old ones are bad. Thanks Makuloco!
Great video, this guy knows his stuff. I started the task, but the two 18mm sockets that I had for my wrench, one was not deep enough and the bolt wouldn't allow a solid fit, and the other 18mm socket was deep deep and I couldn't get it on the nut on top of the shock because of the frame. So I went to Home Depot and bought an 18 mm wrench for $5.
Then I had trouble loosening the nuts because I do not have any power tools. I sprayed Blaster (penetrating catalyst for rust and frozen parts), then hit it with a hammer, then it finally came loose.
All told, I finished in an hour and a half (I'm slow). The instructions were spot on. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
One thing I learned that really, really saved me was knee pads.
Holy cow, I changed my strut and shock assembly the day before and my poor knees were hurting so bad from being on the concrete floor.
I highly recommend knee pads. Oh, I also swear by the thin black gloves sold at Walmart for $2. The save your hands and fingers.
And I use brake cleaner on the areas to clean them up as I go. I also recommend this for proper fitting. A must if you don't want to ruin your threads.
Dec/2021 - I followed all the video details to teplace the rear shocks of my 2016 F150 FX4 and everything was perfect and easy. Thank you so much
These shocks are awesome on my 2011 crew cab. Unbelievable difference. Highly recommend.
Just replaced my 8,000 mile old, rears on my '16 Lariat. Took maybe 30 min, didn't need the pry bar, just "muscled" them. I did a compression / recovery test on the 4x4 OEMs... OMG... Incredibly slow, especially the driver side! NO WONDER, they're so "bouncy bouncy". Quick test drive, deliberately hitting holes / ruts, MUCH firmer & STABLE! Thanks for the video!
Steve Haga why replace it if it's new? 2016 seems new. Do you see a benefit even from it? Does it help the truck bounce back up? Or handle more load
does the shock upgrade gonna help for non-offroad driving?
I'm looking to upgrade to Bilstein shocks. Glad to hear you say that they are a good product.
I have them installed on my '08 Expedition. Love them !
2 trips to CO
Off-roading in WY
Towed an RV trailer to FL
Trip to CA and a daily commute in Chicago (which equals to off-roading in WY)

I have a 02 Expedition 4wd love to try theses out when I get some money soon ? I just got a new job today. Cool
Thanks for this easy step by step! I just did mine with no problems
Thank you fordtechmakuloco for everything you do.
Just wanted to say thank you. Did this with my sons, turned out to be a successful project and resolved our issue. Thank you again.
Just did the rears this AM on my 2016 F150, it took longer for me to remove the wheel liners than it did to install these shocks. Great video! Thanks for the torque specs!
Have you notice difference while driving and towing?
@@jsol888 I only had 16,000 miles when I changed them so the originals weren't that bad on daily driving. There was a huge improvement towing though. The porpoising is gone. Last week I towed our travel trailer with 30 gallons of freshwater and 10 gallons this week and it was a vast improvement! We just need to get manufacturers to start putting in baffles like they do with fuel tanks to stop the sloshing around.
I’ve got an 2018 F150 and it bounced so must when we towed last time, I can’t wait to fit these. I hope I get your results!
@@BringTheBeaver 3 years later and the shocks are still great. What made the biggest improvement in towing was adding Sumo Springs. I think it did make it a bit more harsh but when its loaded it smooths out fast.
@@jadd6810 Just curious, did you change out the eye bushing's on these? The Bilstein 5100's bushing that comes stock, leave a lot of space between the mount and the bushing.
Just followed this vid to install new bilsteins on my 2018 Coyote! Thanks!
Do you like the ride?
Tricks of the trade explained in ten minutes. You are genius.
Great video! I added these shocks, put it on a dyno and gained 62 hp!
What? Lol
Did you put the sticker on your back window? That's an extra 20 horse alone! 🤦🏻♂️🤣
@@jessiehughes9432 i got lucky, it was a 23hp gain! if only I had more stickers, lol.
@@solesoul2108 Ha..what a hoot. LoL
Just install 5100 on rear of 04 F150 via your video. Perfect! Took longer to find my tools. Thank you!
Just wanted to say thank you! Saved me about 500 bucks. Took me longer to find the parts then it did to remove and install.
I installed the 5100's on my '05 F150 and '86 Ranger, front and rear. They are fantastic! Thank you for the great video.
This is the best video I've seen yet on changing your Fords shocks! 🙏
Once again my friend a great video. It’s like you can read my mind. This is my project for today. And bam 💥 your video popped up! Thank you so much 😊
Did this today. Mine did not seem to be as compressed with the green band. Was unable to get a prybar under it the way the video shows. Had to muscle it on by pushing up on the shock with my hand. Took awhile but got it on. That was the left one. When I did the right one there seemed to be a little more room around the shock. I installed the bottom first so I could grab the top of the shock and push up on it with more leverage into the top well. That one only took 10 minutes. Did improve the ride.
Those packaging bands on those Bilstein shocks are a big help. I purchased some icon shocks and they did not come with those bands.
The icon shocks aren't exactly easy to compress. I found it much easier to mount the bottom bolt and then compressed from top to bottom with one hand and use the other hand to push the top bolt in.
Just replaced mine over my lunch break. Next up, front shocks!
I’m in the process of getting these for my 2011 Ford F-150 . Thanks for the video buddy
I'll put these in my 1996 Cherokee recently. Raised it up a hair. Love them they are good quality shocks. 90.00 a piece for the Cherokees
Just installed new set of Bilsteins on my 2012 F150
Pretty easy install, need to keep the strap on there until in place or a lil difficult to compress under the truck.
Will see how they feel tomorrow
Thanks as always
Review on them?
Sweet ! I like the pry-bar reminder to ease it out... thanks a lot !!!
Thank you for the torque specs,,,always worried about those.
I appreciate the video and the tricks how to remove and add the new shocks. As simple as the procedure appears, knowing exactly what to do improves efficiency/ time and effectiveness/ no errors. Just bought my first truck ever 4 weeks ago. I already added a tons of upgrade to a brand new truck. I have taken a Porsche 911 engine apart and put back before... Yet, I appreciate your videos. I also install oil catch can based on reviewing your video + talking to dealer. All done in 1 shot without errors. BTW, still own 4 other sports cars
It was a lil bit of a challenge for me to remove the shocks from my truck because someone installed a coilover shock or helper spring or whatever for heavy hauling or towing, which I had to lift the truck up to remove a lot of the stored energy from the spring.
Thank you for videos i have a 06 f150 Harley its in great condition plan on keeping it . But it has 110000 so its gonna start needing stuff maybe i can do it myself i know your videos give me more confidence.
Just replace my rear shocks. 85k miles and they were shot. Awesome videos and recommendations. I also plan on doing the fronts this Summer.
Awesome video! Thank you. I am going to change the rear shocks on my 2015 F150 Crew Cab - I just got a new bed cap and the rear sags a bit.
I have the same truck. How is it going for you now? ( I think 2 years later)
Love your videos man. You've walked me through a timing job and a lot more on my 06 f150. I appreciate ya!
Very nice tutorial with details, now I need to buy a pair of shock for my F150.
Wonderful! Short and sweet. Too many guys just want to show themselves on the video. Keep up the good work!
pretty good video, that way you explain it makes it easier to understand and to the job right the first time.
Did this exactly today with some rear 5100. great video and directions. Take Care from the Great White North.
I installed these exact same shocks last year on my 2011 platinum after reading many reviews. I was stumped on which direction to install them in! Boot up or boot down? After much reading and finally a call to bilstien, I was told you should be able to read the sticker on the shock without standing on your head! That's the right way! Love 'em. They greatly improved the ride quality on my truck. Now I want to install front ones to match. Plan on making a video for the front?
One day I am sure.
M Gomez I think I found them on either auto anything.com, rock auto or Jegs. I'm pretty sure auto anything was where I got them from. I'd check all of them and see who has the better price.
Outstanding and informative video!!
We just bought a 30’ travel trailer and noticed no sway, but quite a bit of bounce when we picked it up, ordered these and hoping for better results.
Thank you!
Excellent video - nice and detailed - just right! Kudos Dude!
Thanks, this was a big help. I'm glad I didn't jack up my truck and remove the wheels...very easy!
A buddy of mine and I just did this and rust made it 100x harder than it should have been.
Wow. Great vid as always. Would love to see a sway bar install on the 09-14 f150!!!
Great video as always. I will use Bilstein when I change my 08' Navigator shocks soon.
Thanks for posting this! Took about 30-45 minutes.
I just bought a pair of skyjack black x I hope they work good on my Ford nice video it's helps me everytime I have a question or when I'm fixing my truck thanks a lot 💪🏽💯🔥👌
Had to be the greatest and most inspiring how to video I have ever watched. Thanks!
Bilstein CLEARLY states which way these are to be installed,he did it correctly.
Great advice. I bought a set for my 05 f150 and my 86 Ranger. They look and ride great. Thanks for the advice
Great video, glad it doesn't have to be jacked up. Nice pry bar tip as well..
Brother thank you, making my job easier again..
Great video, thank you for posting this, it will save me a lot of time and unnecessary steps.
Great vid. I don't know who the ones are that thumbed down but carry on.
Thanks for the video install. About to order some on my f150
Great vid...i think the newer 08+ Tundras/Sequoias are similar in the rear..just giant bolts though.
Got them on my 2017 XLT and they are great!
You made it look easy. I’m going to give it a try on my 2013.
Doing this job tomorrow. Thanks for your great videos !
Dam good video and such a simple job
I got a quote for new shocks on my F150 and after watching this video I wonder what the mechanic is charging me for. Thanks! I'll be doing this myself.
How much money is this guy pulling away from dealers showing us how to take care of these things ourselves? Thanks dude. Just did mine.
I'd previously taken the rear leaf spring blocks out of my 2013 XLT F150, so I had a little more of a struggle to compress the shocks, but ain't nothin' but a thang. The video showed me exactly what I had to do. Thanks again.
Quick question, another user mentioned that they had to remove the wheel liners to get this done, is that really the case?
@@mosasa1307 maybe he had some aftermarket ones that were installed that he had to remove first. I did not.
Great video I slapped on some sky jacket shocks on the eco boost using this video thanks so much
Have a 12 and have learned so much from your videos thank you!
Do you have a video doing the 5100s on the front? I see your video of another type of front shocks for the truck but not sure if install differs?
Thank you
Did you do fronts?
I see you’d have to use your stock spring. Any increase in height?
I wish I had you as my neighbor lol really good f150 videos
Now the front shocks :D
Exactly. No need to remove to raise the truck and remove the wheel!
Got it done, thanks for the video!
Wow!!!! Even easier than I thought!!!!! Great vid and thank you for the valuable info👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
great job, I'll be doing the same on my 2010.
Nice video brother 👌
Your best ford Mech out there!
Brother you are a savior, thanks for this video and made us save some extra $
Great vid, just finished my install, thanks
Nice i was just wondering about that rear end hop which i hate now i know what can help correct it 👍🏽
Thank for all bro 😎
Good video! I've been waiting for this one for a while! Thanks Brian!
You make that look so simple. Probably take me 2 hours
These are very simple with power tools.
Putting these on my 14 F150. The rear wheels hop alot
So this Bilstein 5100 series did not stop the wheel hop ,as I also have a 2014 F150
@@patbejara2656 man I just bought a 2010 and the rear wheel hop is brutal. Do you have any clue how to get rid of it? I thought something was wrong with my truck until I did some research and tons of people have the same issue
Also have wheels balanced
2015 f 150 xl 5.0: old shocks came off no prob, new, shocks installed no prob, which is nice bc I don't own an impact wrench cordless or otherwise...ty for the guidance!
Thanks for the video! Can't wait to get these for my truck
I have them on my ford ranger they are great shocks.
eastcoasadventurous they lift you truck ? I want buy the same shocks
Great video. No jacking up of truck, no removing tire. One Question, arent you supposed to compress the shocks 3 times to activate the gases? I saw that on another video and was wondering about it.
Um no.
Great Video! I love these Bilstein 5100 shocks. Ride is so much smoother on my 14 F150.
I think I installed them upside down because the instructions that came with them are not clear but they still work great. Again, thanks for another great video!
The 5100 works on 2014? I seller websites keep saying they won't fit mine!
@@matthewley6783 did u end up getting the 5100 ? I have a 14 f150 Amazon link says it won’t fit ?
Would it fit tho ? Thanks
@@cheizaguirre5494 I did not. Priorities changed, but I have heard of many f150 owners on Facebook that have used the 5100's for their f150.
