How to set up a kiddie pool filter pump

- In this video I show you how you can use a swimming pool filter pump to clean a kiddie pool. Emptying out the water in a kid's pool after every use is a pain, it's not always practical, and it wastes a lot of water. If you buy a cheap pool filter pump like those made by INTEX you can easily cycle the water in your inflatable pool through it, which filter the water and clean your kiddie pool. The trick is to flood the pump and hoses with water before you turn it on, otherwise there won't be any suction. If you have a kiddie pool on a balcony like me, be sure to check your balcony weight loading first, and keep the power cords out of the water. A swimming pool filter pool pump will only clean dust, dirt and other debris from your kiddie pool, so if you are going to keep the water in there all summer long, you will also need to add a little chlorine or Clorox. Be sure to calculate the amount of water in your inflatable pool and add the correct amount. And despite what the President says, don't consume disinfectant under any circumstances.

The perfect video for those looking to clean a paddling pool without holes. A massive help thank you!
Big Mahalo to you Damian. I live in Hawaii and have a 10,000 gallon above ground water catchment container. We do not have public water in my neighborhood. I bought an Intex C2500 and could not get it to work. I watched your video and had it working in 10 minutes. Mahalo again for your help.
That is awesome!
Thank you so much!! I just fiddled with my filter for an hour before watching this. Had it fixed and running in minutes. You’re a lifesaver!
Fantastic!
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH❤❤❤ 🎉🎉🎉🎉! I was stumped for a bit and knew someone would have wanted the same thing with their kiddie pool and here you are saving us! I don’t know how many thanks I can give but you deserve it so much!
I been looking for a video about cleaning a kids pool, all I found was pumping Intex pool with pump holes. But this is exactly the information I needed. Thank you so much.
It does not work... do Not try to use this for the kiddie pool
@@puppo3355 Worked perfectly for me. I tried a couple of unsuccessful methods but this saved the day. Thank you, Damien Arthur!
Saved my day !
This was exactly the fix we needed! We were priming into the filter and getting no suction. My guy deemed the pump a scam and a 'pos'. Then I found you 😊 so thank you thank you thank you! Works like a charm now.
Omg THANK YOU!!! I just bought a large inflatable pool, enough for 4 adults to chill in. But it has no holes for a water pump, so this was a life saver! I was about to give up until I found your video ❤
Thanks! I really didn’t want to have to dump our pool out, we have a water ban and water isn’t cheap in my city either.
Omg Thank you so much! I bought an inflatable pool and i bought an intex filter pump I couldn't figure out why it wasnt pumping water Your video explained it all 😄Thank you for sharing!!! 👌😃
You’re welcome!
This is great! Took a bit of trial and error but I got it working thanks to this video. Thank you!
Good work parents, i am appreciative for this tip. I've been searching for a filter pump for toddler pool, to no avail. Then we found you. Thanks for your time sharing this.
Our pleasure!
Thank you! That was really useful and answered all my questions about a splash pool filter. Love the camera work too.
Thank you Damien! Tried a couple times yesterday and came close but after your vid we were able to obtain success.
Perfect!!!!! I have a pump and we made a TRAMPOLINE POOL and I was trying to figure out how to filter it, thank you!!!!
Thank you so much for this! So helpful
3 videos and this one explain it better. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Mexico.
Glad it helped.
Pure genius. Thank you!
Thanks for the video - that's super useful to learn how to filter the kiddie pool!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
Super helpful video!! Thank you so much! I bought the same filter pump and ill be setting it up later today. Wish me luck!
Good luck!
Can you share a link for the filter pump assy?
Perfect mate. Cheers!
I'm glad you got yours working I bought a brand name over of these called bestway which is a funny choice of name because there couldn't be a worse way of cleaning your pool, I tried for hours using your technique but it just didn't work, air would seem to get in no matter what I did, the pump just wasn't powerful enough to move the water so I boxed it up and returned it for a refund, honestly the hassle of trying to get this working versus filling the pool 3 to 4 times with fresh water isn't worth it for me, besides nearly electrocuting myself.
Thank you for your help , just what I needed to know .
Glad I could help. Be sure to clean/change the filter occasionally.
Total legend!!! Thank you for the video!!
Finally thanks just what I needed
Thanks! Just what I was looking for 👍
Amazing. Solved my problem 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Glad I could help.
this is exactly what i needed thank you
Thank you for this!
Thank you so much!!! 🙏🏽
Awesome! Thank you!
Just what I needed 👍👍👍
Thank you this is the first video that makes sense to me 👍
Glad it helped!
Definitely a nice way to spend the summer vacation after finals! Lol
Thank you so much. I bought this filter before seeing your video and I couldnt figure out how to work it.
You're welcome. Just make sure you get all the air out. Briefly tip it upside down if you have too.
Do you use any chemicals? I've hooked up the pool filter but the water is still murky. Alot of products are for 5000+ gallon pools. Our inflatable is 240 gal. I dont know what or how much to use.
@@aL-lm9yz A cheap temporary solution is to put in some Clorox which is essentially liquid chlorine. Clorox has instructions on how much to add here. It will be a tiny amount. www.clorox.com/how-to/outdoor-cleaning/pools/wading-pool/ Otherwise you want to buy some swimming pool chlorine and add a tiny amount regularly according to the instructions per volume of water. That is what we do.
@@DamienArthur We put a small amount of Clorox and it made the pool stink and its still murky. I bought some baking soda tablets but have only used it once. There's one in there now. We'll see how it looks tomorrow. Thanks for the input.
@@aL-lm9yz If it made it stink, it was probably too much. You might want to empty it out, give the sides a good clean and start fresh. Good luck!
Once I turn off the filter and try to turn it on again, the motor works but its not sunctioning. I left both hoses underwater, so I assume there is air? But do I have to "add water to the 2 hoses" each time I run the filter? Can't the hoses be submerged and then when I turn on the motor again, it should work again? But last time I tried it, it didn't work and I have to do the "fill hoses up" again. thanks again.
Awesome! It works 😁👍🏻. Thank you.
Update: it worked for about... 20mn and then... Nothing.
I'm still struggling like crazy cause it does not suck even though I filled up the tubes with the pool's water.
But still, thank you for this video.
Might be a bad pump - I saw another post somewhere or unplug and prime again.
Thank you 🎉
You’re welcome 😊
Well, I guess I have to buy an inflatable pool now... 🌝
This looks fun!
Thank you so much! I did this but with a brick! :)
Great pool hack...but.....dude... Is your balcony rated for that kind of dead weight?
😮
Thank you so much for the video. I need a pump like this with long water pipe. Where could I order it from? Do you think I also should use chlorine for my 10’ X 6’ above the ground pool?
Yes, if you want to keep it clean you will need to add chlorine (as per the recommended amount) regularly and run the filter pump too. Try Amazon.
Thank u:)
Thanks super helpful! I looked for Intex Krystal. Is it the $80 versión? Any others you think might work?
I'm not in the US but $80 sounds about right, it was the cheapest one. I think they would all work.
I love how simple it is easy Peezy, 123
Cool I need this
What about chlorine tabs ? It’s been super difficult to keep clean
Great stuff! I just bought a pump filter like this so will give it a go. I assume once the pipes are in the water they will stay full of water until you remove them? It just might be a few days in between pool uses so wanted to leave it setup and run the filter at a set time each day for a couple of hours. Would that work or once the flow stops would air get in the hoses? Cheers
You will likely have to do the process each time, but it will only take a minute once you've done it a couple of times. Good luck.
Thank you!! I had watched another video and that one said to only fill one of the hoses up. Didn't work. Tried your method and it took me about 5 minutes to get the pump working.
Glad I could help.
Hi! Thanks a lot for this video. Could you tell me.. after, how do you store the pump? Do I have to clean it and empty the water of the tubes and pump??
Hi! Just empty the water from the tubes and pump and pack it away. After a few uses you will need to clean the filter. And after a lot of uses you will need to replace the filter.
@@DamienArthur thanks a lot!
Can the filter be used to empty out the pool? How do you empty the pool on the balcony? Great video. Thank you!
Yes. Just set up as per the video, but remove the hose that pumps the water back into the pool and put it down your drain. If it doesn’t reach you can connect a second hose with a connector or some waterproof tape to get it to your laundry drain.
Damien, it looks like I have the same size pool and I’d like to know if you have an intex pump and what size? I think a 530 will do the job, but am not sure. I can’t read the box
It’s an Intex pump. The smallest one you can get will do the job.
Thanks!! Just one question, I have a 145G kiddie pool, and don't know what size of filter pump I need since in my Country the smallest pump is for 300G of water, would that be good?
That’ll be fine.
@@DamienArthur thank you so much!
Once you do this for the 1st time, does the pump hoses need to stay in the water once it's ready or can you take them out while the kids play in the pool and then put them back in at the end of the day so the pool is reset and ready to use the next time. Also, are you using any small amounts of Chlorine as well and thanks :-) !!!!!!
I take them out. I only have them running for a couple of hours each day. Each time you put them back in you'll need to flood it with water again. Yes, I use a small amount of chlorine in their too.
Ok, so I had to get a new filter the old one didn’t work b/c it came from China and the voltage was wrong. I got the intel and setting it up today- Do you set it up while it’s plugged in- is it safe? Or do you set up the hoses and then plug it in?
I’m scared to get electrocuted.
Thanks
Don't turn it on until all the air is out, but there's no need to worry about being electrocuted.
Absolutely Helpful!
Could you please let me know:
1) Which is this INTEX filter model?
2) What is the chlorine concentration for a 1000L pool?
Thank you so much!
It’s an Intex Krystal Klear and the concentration measures are on the side of the chlorine tub.
which model pump is this? I'm looking to do this with the exact same pool i got for my daughter.
Hi, here it is: amzn.to/3e1C7Tt
Does the height of the pump still need to be lower than the water level in the pool?
Are these pumps reliant on gravity feed to an extent?
I have everything sorted, no air, no leaks etc but it's just not pumping much at all.
The higher up you have it, the more work it will need to do. Try to keep it about level with the pool. If it's not pumping much, chances are there is air in the top of the pump. Turn the pump upside down when you have everything going and you will see the air rush out.
@@DamienArthur thanks for replying Damien!
I released all air out of the top of the pump, I think at this point the pump simply isn't strong enough to pump over the edge of the pool.
This is for a kids wading pool so only about 10inch deep water
Appreciate your advice 👍
I've tried but after like 2 min the filter pump turns off. Ugh it's so frustrating. I've been trying forever. I think it gets air I don't know. Is that a safety feature to turn off if air is in pump or is my pump junk?? I have to wait a while to plug back in like 10 min for it to come back on.
Yes, the pump will eventually turn itself off if there is a lot of air in there and there is no suction. When you fill the hoses up with water, try turning the pump upside down and forcing the air bubbles out of the pump and out of the hose.
I need one of those filter do you have an amazon link where I can get it ? I just set up my kiddie pool
Here is a link to the pump: amzn.to/3e1C7Tt
And if you need spare filters you can get them here: amzn.to/3d20hft
Hi Damien! Thank you for your video! How often do you run your pump and for how long? Is it on while you are in the pool?
Hi Sarah, I run it for a couple of hours each day. I pack it up before anyone goes in the pool. Be sure to clean your filter once in a while and if you are going to keep the same water in there for a long time, add a tiny bit of chlorine regularly.
@@DamienArthur hey there, which pump did you buy and did it come with the longer hoses? Thanks Joe
ive already done that, it took me hours, and effort to always do the same thing, is there any other way? ty
It shouldn’t take you hours. 5 mins max. Flip the pump upside down when there is water in it to get all the air out.
We have the same pump but the hoses aren't as long as yours. Did you have to buy longer hoses?
No, they came with the pump.
Do you use chlorine tablets? How often do you change the water with the filter system. Thanks!
Yes, we add a little bit of chlorine every other day and test the levels. We only change the water when we forget to do that and run the pump for a while.
Hi, I know you are doing this for children but I bought one for that kid in the picture, she has one every summer. I have tried the all of them and have a pool vacuum that uses water. Does anyone know what amount of clorine is safe for a dog?
Hi Damien, great video! We just got the kids a huge inflatable slide/pool. The thing is that there is a sprayer on the top of the slide, and I do not want to have water running all the time to get it to trickle down the slide. Do you think a pump could work? I mean something that sucks water out the pool to the hose that spray the slide..
Possibly, but if the slide is huge you’d need a pump powerful enough to pump it to the top. It might be easier to turn the hose on and off whenever the kids want to use the slide?
Hi 👋🏼 does the pump keep the water cool? Thank you!
No, if you want to chill your pool the easiest way is to put some bags of water in the freezer and throw the ice in the pool when you’re about to use it.
Ok thanks!
Can this be used on those little 42” blue plastic pools
Yeah, no issues, though they don't hold as much water so you could also just empty out and refill.
Thank you, you just saved me.
Hey there, can you tell me which pump with the long hoses you bought? Thanks
Intex Krystal Klear
@@DamienArthur which model number? Thanks
Where should I buy this ,can u provide link in description
Amazon, search for Intex Krystal Klear filter
Hi damien, thanks! I have followed the instructions, but cannot feel any suction as i put my fingers at the tip of the pipes. Is it normal?
Nope. If there’s no suction it’s not working. There must be air in the pump.
@@DamienArthur yeah, got it! Its working!
Does it lose prime every time it's turned off? Like, can i use a timer with it?
It’ll lose prime
@@DamienArthur Turns out it doesn't lose prime, but the pool pump cord has a built in GFCI which has to be reset every time it's turned off & back on so i can't use a timer. Bummer.
Which pump did you buy and from where please?
Intex Krystal Klear from Amazon
How often do you run the filter?
Once every few days for a couple of hours.
My hoses are really short - will it work if I prop up the filter?
Yeah it’ll still work.
@@DamienArthur so apparently the problem is that the voltage is 220V and I'm in the US 120V, so I'm returning it. These are sold out everywhere so I had to pay $132 for the intex. It comes on Friday- fingers crossed. I'm so excited to try this!!!!
I had to buy a new intex filter because the voltage was wrong, but I did it!!!!!
I’m soooooooo excited - thank you soooooooo much!,!!!
@@ElianaZ Glad you got it to work. Enjoy!
Can you send me the link to the pump you got?
Just type in Intex pool pump and find a small, cheap one. And make sure the voltage is right for your country - I’m in the UAE so you might not want the exact same one as me.
What kind of pool is that and how big is it?
Intex swim center family lounge pool.
Damien Arthur thank you for the information do you have the length of it. I have a deck but not sure if this would be too big_
Intex Swim Center Inflatable Family Lounge Pool, 90" X 86" X 31"
Here it is: amzn.to/3d2BvM9
Also, isn’t the weight of the pool with water too much for a balcony!? I have a deck and was told I couldn’t put any kind of pool on it
What about chemical?
Thank you for this video. I’ve bought a filter pump and then recognise there is no suction strong enough to take out water above the puddling pool.
If you follow the instructions, you should be able to get it to work. Just make sure there is no air in the pump at all.
What kind of filter is that
Intex Krystal Klear
@@DamienArthur how many GPH?
You should have shown the end result though.
So all you need is the pump … no need for any chlorine or anything ?
This will keep it fairly clean, but chlorine of some sort will help. at the very least a cup of good bleach will work in a fair sized pool. probably less in one this size. If you google there is a post from Clorox about how much bleach to use in a small pool according to how many gallons of water in it. It's worked in my pool for the last five years, although this year I am trying pool chlorine tablets.
Based off his last sentence in the description, I can tell he's a liberal! 😂😂😂
