I spent time there in 1974 - 75 with the US Navy. I'm fuzzy on the politics but I think we were there to show US support of Australia's claim to the islands as the British were asserting their claim to the islands as British Indian Ocean Territory. There wasn't much there at the time... a runway, some modest homes for the handful of Australian residents and, naturally, a great bar. It was the most beautiful place I've ever seen before or since. Lately, I've been sorry I ever came back.

I went a place just like this called Soana Island near the dominican republic in the caribbean and it looks just like this..... thousands of coconut palms white sandy beaches and torqouise waters

I actually looked up this and really there’s tons of rubbish and trash along the coastlines of it.I know with video is 4 years old but people are seriously underestimating the amount on plastic there is.
This is NOT paradise for those of you who never been to a remote deserted island and as a experienced hiker and snorkeling diver I must warn you of the many dangers of these tropical islands such as diseases.
I swear, that is like the clearest water I have ever seen! Its like looking into an aquarium from the surface!
