  • As we all know the IS250 is the model that is known for the lack of horsepower and the lack of supporting mods that does not really unlock a IS250 true potential... until now. RR-racing tune is hands-down the best thing i've bought for this car since the Apex'i Throttle controller. RR-racing is known for their extensive studies on improving the performance of most street legal cars. Simply making a great car perform almost as if they belong on the track! Personally this tune for the IS250 makes the driving experience 10x better and is well worth buying.

    Thank you for posting this!! I recently have started doing some mods to my 2015 is250 fsport , (intake,midpipe,exhaust). Was searching for a ecu tune and came across your post. Awesome part is I didn’t realize I actually live only 45 mins from RR Racing. Called them up 2 days ago and drove over today and got the tune. Super happy with it . What a great shop! FYI make sure u reach out to RR as you add upgrades because there are certain oversized upgrades like their intake arm that require a new tune because it's such a dramatic difference in air charge. When I installed the carbon oversized intake runner, my car ran like garbage and through a dash light for an excessive lean air fuel mix until they sent me the updated map that accounted for the extreme increased air charge

    • @ChrisKheluram
      @ChrisKheluram  Před 3 lety +1

      Me personally, I would keep the stock air box.. I know it doesn’t look appealing or sound nice but it’s super efficient. You want something that will ingest cooler air rather than hot engine air. Being that the afe intake filter is not in an enclosed box the performance might suffer a little. I’m no expert lol but I think a intake tube would be a better choice. But if you really like the AFE over just the tube, the it’s up to you bro, intakes in general don’t really make hp unless you have it directly behind your front bumper air vent; which you don’t want to do if you daily you car lol.

    • @ChrisKheluram
      @ChrisKheluram  Před 4 lety +3

      To be honest with you.. I don’t ever drive in “D” I’m usually In “M” mode which shifting on you’re own. I come from drive manual I absolutely can’t do the automatic. But the 7200 rpm range doesn’t apply to the automatic mode

    • @tv321123
      @tv321123 Před 4 lety

      Not so much of a issues, more of a side effect. With hard driving stock the toque converter locks when shifting for more immediate soled shifts than any old automatic that dose not do that. But it only locks up until 6800RPM, so any shift done at a higher RPM like that of the RR racing tune could unlock, would not lock the torque converter and hence take longer to shift. Can't speak personally as my RR racing tune has the stock rev limiter in place, but apparently the slower shifting is made up for by staying in the power band longer.

I also don't see anything for beyond a 2017 on their website, but I don't think anything has really changed since with the transmission/power train? Also curious to know how this behaves with a non F Sport shifting, since it has the "hand holding" manual shifting versus that of the F sport which lets you shift as you wish, would be a big selling point if they could modify that for true F Sport manual mode.

      They really don’t believe in the whole flame thing lol since stock motor doesn’t really have the horsepower to do that. In order for any tuner to do that you will need to retard timing (something like that) and that can cause potential issues long term. you can ask them if they can do that for you but idk. If you do want that there’s people out there that works for a company called mforce tuning but again idk how to get in contact with them. Also I don’t advise getting any type of flame map on stock motor unless you’re pushing 500-600 hp with a fully built motor with turbo, 1000cc+ injectors and beefy fuel pump

    I was in the exact position as you..have an is250 awd did the tune and it was one of the best mod I also had the axle back and f sport intake that being said The is 250 by itself was a daily go getter. Not fast enough to race other cars. Heavy and lacks torque. The only reason I know this was because I upgraded recently and that’s when all the negatives showed up in the is250 . Still is a good car but once you experience better there’s no going back

      I completely agree I’ve had cars faster then my 250 and I loved it, I’ve sat in peoples cars way faster then mine; in complete jealousy lol. But Tbh I was college grad with a totaled is300 and barely any money and I truthfully made a bad decision buying this car. But in a way, I look at it as the 250 is a challenge on its own to make it a fun car to drive. I kinda accepted that challenge by trying new things to it to kinda convince people that maybe own a 250 and can’t upgrade or can’t afford a 350 or 300 but still loves the look of the car, that it can something enjoyable without some people saying “should’ve just bought a 350” (not you just in general) lol. Reason why I started CZcams in the first place. I will eventually upgrade but for right now I’m going treat this car as if it was a LFA 🤟🏽

      Me personally I love the lip kits from NIA auto design very uniformed and clean. I would talk to RRRACING to see if there’s anything in development for a tune. As for exhaust everyone seems to go with the invidia RC350 ones these days ( I guess it’s Jason Nguyen and myself fault for promoting it so much ) but 🤷🏽‍♂️ all you have to do is cut a small section off your diffuser. But you might not even have to with the 2020 model diffuser (again I really don’t know much on 2020 models and the differents) that would be up to you. And if you want a louder tone change out the midpipe if you have kids probably not a good idea. maybe a spoiler and some coil overs / air suspension. You can even run lowering springs if you wanted. Don’t take much to make these cars look fire dude. Thanks for the comment and make sure to sub 🤟🏽

    • @ChrisKheluram
      @ChrisKheluram  Před rokem

      Honestly if you really love this Lexus chassis is250 is great when it comes to price budget. It does lack performance and there really isn’t a good way to add HP unless you super charge it. Which makes no sense to me personally. IS250 has the looks don’t get me wrong but that’s all it is. Reliability engine wise, has been great to me, water pump is probably the only thing I’ve changed since I owned the car. If you do get a IS250 make sure it’s 2015+ since 2014 model will have majority of that radio/amp issue like I have right now that makes me want to get rid of the damn car. a air oil separator would be a must because it is direct injected not port like the IS350 is. And I would also get a Throttle controller to eliminate the throttle delay for a better drive. Tune is over rated for a 250 unless you buy a IS300 which is no different than a 350 it’s just detuned from factory. Which the RR tune will bring some of that HP back with supporting mods from my understanding, don’t quote me on that lol. If I had to do it again I’ll save up and get the 2015+ 350. But not everyone can and at the time I bought mine I still couldn’t afford to even have a IS250. My thing is now buy once, cry once.

    I was actually going to sell my car and get a 2is350. I love the look and stock power output but after researching and noticing that there is no decent aftermarket support to build NA and it's not boost friendly I would have to opt for the $6k SC kit or be better off getting a is300 or swapping the motor for a more build friendly platform (if I wanted a project car and not a fully functional daily) and paying $500 to gain only 20hp on a platform that has gained very little aftermarket potential in the last 14 years since it's release is not worth it to me and it sucks because I really wanted to get this car

      Unfortunately you are right. There isn’t A LOT of aftermarket parts out for Lexus 2is or 3is but they are enough to make these cars look and feel much more fun to drive 🔥🔥, these arent a 240sx or a EK hatch; were you have a whole spectrum of parts to choose from. If you’re looking for a car with more of a aftermarket platform performance wise this isn’t the car you want. If you want a nice decently powered is350 cause you genuinely love the look of the car then go for it. Again, it’s your choice at the end out the day but one thing is to always make sure you do every bit of research before buying and committing to a car/build and ask yourself where do I want to go with this build and is it in my budget.

      I can ensure you that rr racing makes sure you gain the performance of your car while keeping reliability their #1 priority, reason why they are against the pop and bang or gurgle tune. For is250 22HP is a lot, being that there isn’t much aftermarket parts that are proven to gain hp other than this tune. I will be doing a update on this tune within a months time to keep you guys updated

    Thinking about getting one for my Lexus ISF but now I'm questioning whether or not I want to because I don't want to go to the dealership for the updates and pay for that and then have to pay for the tuner getting close to $1,000

    • @ChrisKheluram
      @ChrisKheluram  Před 4 lety

      That’s definitely understandable as for the pcm update at the dealer I don’t think it’s required on a ISF you would have to check with RRRACING. As for a tuner, RRracing sets you the tuned file after they have received your ECU ID once that’s done you take that file and store it onto your device and then onto the car. No tuner required unless you’re trying to get fined to squeeze more out of it. That would also be another question for RRracing. All in all you do have a ISF dude and that alone gets pricey with parts trust me my brother has one lol and I don’t spend not nearly as much as he does on his set up lol

      I believe the only reason you would need to update your ECU at the dealer is if you don’t live in the US. I read someone talking about it and the non-us cars have a slightly different firmware. I believe this applies to the 2IS. The 3IS may need to update.

      For ISF I’m not sure what file they are supposed to give but I do know if you have their Intake set up with PPE headers and a full exhaust it really makes a difference especially with the Intake due to the increased diameter of the maf housing something like that. One the requirements is to get your PCM upgrade other wise the my genius device won’t be able to read your ECU ID. The way I found out was my first file I sent RRRACING they went through it and say that mine was outdated. I’m not exactly sure what the reason is but I am clear that the tune will not go through if it isn’t updated

      Thing is you’re not buying the tune from Lexus so they don’t really care what you do to you car. If you don’t have the PCM updated the tune won’t work. What I would suggest is IF you really want the tune, is get the tune try to upload your ECU ID to the device send it to RRracing if they say you don’t need it great if you do need it, Save up and get it done after that you’re good. It’s your ECU dude it’s really important like John said you have to do it the right way, can’t cut corners when it comes to the brain of your car
