    The West Highland Way is a 96 mile route which runs from Milngavie to Fort William, along the west coast of Scotland.
    Backpacking is the most traditional, and probably best, way to experience this route which takes in a real snapshot of what Scotland has to offer.
    This is my third and fourth days along the route from Beinglas Farm Campsite to Inveroran Hotel campsite. The weather was phenomenally hot for Scotland and made the days' journey's seem longer than they probably were.

      I've found myself watching the trip back a few times. It had so many highs, lows and lessons throughout. It really was the type of trip that gets me going and I'll need to see what I can plan for 2023's calendar. I hope you get back on the trail soon too.

      It's so good when you get them, just standing or sitting there and enjoying them is brilliant. A world away from city bustle or even windy hills.

    The stretch between Inversnaid and Inverarnan is deceiving as to how long it’ll take because there’s a lot of up and down. Pushing on at the end was well worth it! You’ve got a nice pair of boots on as well, very comfortable.

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors

      Yeah, I think the whole Loch Lomond side portion is slow going with the ups, downs, roots and rocks but brilliant fun at the same time.
      I did contemplate just staying at Bridge of Orchy but thought I might as well push on as a few people had said it was better at Inveroran. While I don't think Inveroran was any better than the Bridge of Orchy, the views from the high point were brilliant.
      I thought I'd noticed you guys both wearing them too, is that right?

    Another great video Bry. 👍 Cracking couple of days.😎 Looked tough in that heat. That was a cheeky wee cloud 🌥️😆 They had no food when we hit the Inversnaid Hotel anaw, but they had left over food from a function they said we could help ourselves. Free sausage rolls n sandwiches. 🤤 It's a fine viewpoint that wee hill.

      Cheers mate, the weather was belting for the first few days and it was felt. Just the wee cloud to spoil it 😂
      I've read some reviews afterwards and there's been a few good times it seems they're out of food so it might be one to watch if walking.
      I'm glad I pushed on to that wee hill though, the views were absolutely worth it. The views up and down Loch Tulla, from either end, seem to be decent from what I've seen.
      Cheers for watching and I hope you like the last part.

    Great video, I would love to know what date you were at the inverarnan Hotel because when I stopped off there, also really looking forward to some pub food for lunch, all they had was lemon drizzle cake and Mars bars too. I hit there on day 3 which was 21st June 2022

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před rokem

      Thanks mate.
      I was there mid-August and it was on day three that I hit it also. I've had a few people mention the exact same scenario and the TripAdvisor reviews also have this situation dotted around.
      Apparently it's a coach company that owns the hotel and they're guilty of having food / restaurant available for coach guests and not the passing trade.
      One to watch out for I think and not to be relied on.
      How did you find the route? What was your weather like?

    • @greeno6064

      @@AScotsmanOutdoors weather was amazing, count have asked for better, actually got a sunburnt head as didn't take any suncream. I went on June 18 from Milngavie so they been doing drizzle cake only all summer it seems. What a wasted business opertunity for them with 1000's hikers going by. I had really set my heart on a pub lunch like burger and chips and had to make do with drizzle cake. Oh well. Yes I found June 18 perfect, the rains had stopped a week or 2 earlier and yes midges were out but nowhere near as bad as July and August and only in a couple of places early morning late evening. Amazing, hoping to go again next year.

      I'll need to do it again with my cousin so hopefully have another bash at it one day.

    Excellent Brian, I really really enjoyed this! It was nice to see some of the sections that others haven't shown - defo a different feel without your cousin, but still brilliant to watch. What a view over Loch Tulla!!! It was a shame about the social gathering, but I suppose that's part and parcel of these types of places (esp. in summer). Looking forward to Rannoch Moor and the Devils Staircase :D

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      Cheers mate, I'm glad you liked it.
      It's tough to decide which parts to showcase when I had so much footage but tried to get the feel for the terrain and the sun.
      There definitely was a difference in feeling without my cousin, probably because it was meant for us both but hopefully I've still managed to capture the route.
      Pushing on that wee bit was worth the views up Loch Tulla and to the west but my days was I sluggish by then.
      The social night was the only real bit of bother I'd had with others and it didn't help that I was setup by the time they'd come back from the pub, so I had no energy to move again. It is part and parcel when you've so many people on the same route.
      Ooft, I hate pressure to deliver but hopefully my take on the last sections will give you another insight into the route.
      Thanks for watching as always mate and hope it helps in some way.

    Sorry Brian I am confused I thought you walked on from bridge of orchy and were camping with those amazing views, we camped at bridge of orchy and it was very busy and loud as you described. It sounds like you walked back to bridge of orchy and camped, sorry if I am just being daft. You are doing brilliant mate

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před rokem +2

      Nope, I completely get where you're coming from. Is this because I review day three and four while walking past the Inveroran hotel?
      If so, when I woke in the morning I walked back to the Inveroran hotel to get a wash in the river next to the outside seating area (and to keep moving from the midges).
      I then turned around and walked the few hundred metres from Inveroran hotel back past the camp spot while doing my review, then got right into day five.
      I get the confusion if you've done the route because I start reviewing further back from where I camped.
      I didn't have the energy to walk the length of myself really that day let alone go back to the Bridge of Orchy 😂
      I hope that clears the confusion.
      Cheers mate, it's been a great experience and the finale will be up this Sunday. All edited and good to go.

      It was a long time ago I did the WHW so yeah think I am just getting confused with the places. I actually thought the scene at 24:42 was bridge of orchy but it's inveroran. You went straight from that scene to a night scene so I assumed that was from the same camp spot worngly thinking bridge of orchy. I get there in the end 🤣🤣🤣

      @@AScotsmanOutdoors I bought one ... I'm thinking of maybe doing the slopping vestibule with slightly more room mod... I can never understand the logic of putting a weird porthole in one side instead of a second door... I mean the zip looks pretty much as long .. can't save weight ... I think a designer was left alone that day 🤣

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před rokem

      I doubt you'll be disappointed with it but do let me know. What's your plans for the first outing with it?
      I've done a bit of searching and can't find anything about this sloping vestibule mod but I'm intrigued. What is the mod and where can I read / watch about it? The only thing I done with the doors on my WHW was peg them open to have the air flow through.
      I wasn't sure about the port hole / gear store at first but I actually like it now as I can just pop my cooking setup through it and grab it again when I need it, keeping the main door free from clutter. The tent as a whole has really tightened up my organisation because you don't have the space to bomb-burst your kit when you get inside. My Banshee 300 could take everything I carry with me spread out inside of it 😂

      @@AScotsmanOutdoors essentially add a short piece of guyline to the normal pole/door connector.... Reduce pole height by about 5cm ... Experiment... Then put pole tip into ground thru new piece of guy line thus enabling doors to be pegged out further at an angle... I would suggest a bit of experimenting with pole height n door slope before finalising length of new pole guy on floor. Hope that makes sense..
