- "Christine" by Glass Eye, from the 1989 Bar/None Records EP of the same name. I have always adored this song and was dismayed to find it going unrepresented on CZcams, so I made this video using public domain footage. If anyone from Glass Eye is reading this: I LOVE YOU.
- Hudba
One of my favorite bands. Saw them at Underground Railroad (RIP) in Morgantown, WV in late 80's. Bought everything. Burgler got it all.... Love the harmonies. Love the odd musical styles. Loved everything about it.
I just opened for Kathy’s solo show last night. She was fantastic.
I believe that! She is phenomenal!
It's been in my head for 22 years consistently. It's a truly great song.
Loved this band back in the late eighties. I booked them to play a show at UW-La Crosse once. Made them dinner. Good people.
Such a supremely beautiful song
I have to listen to this now and again. To me, a timeless classic. No irony meant.
Saw them in Madison WI in 87 or 88. Fantastic. Back when Austin was still weird.
Breaks my heart that all of their great songs aren't up and available.
buy them...
I still love this tune, I had a cassette of this ep I also love the cover of Cecilia
One of their best songs. Thank you for posting this. Your video is artfully done. This was one of the best bands in history, in my opinion. They used to do a cover of CECILIA, that was a vast improvement over the already great original.
I love both the original and GE's versions of "Cecilia!"
Glass Eye actually had a proper video for "Christine," but I haven't seen it in years. Great album, great song.
I loved this song as a DJ doing the Friday afternoon set at KTRU in 88/89. Thanks!
KRTU was the best!
loved that entire album back in the day!
@tbtron5000 "My men and I when day was spent...trees in the desert spoke their names, and not one was silent."
Saw them at New Guild co-op--had no clue how it would embed itself in my consciousness. There was a a band called Salem Tree that put out the same vibe.
This band totally escaped my memory. Thanks for the reminder and damn fine job on the video!
That's very kind of you, thanks! I adore this jam.
Many thanks. I remembered liking this band, but couldn't remember what they sounded like! This brought back memories.
AWESOME! My fave song from a fave band.
This song, band and VIDEO are great!
An amazing video for an amazing song. Thanks for doing this.
So. Good.
Thanks for uploading this! Used to see these guys when I was in high school back in Texas
The female voice is very strong.
That would be Kathy McCarty, aka K McCarty. I highly recommend her album of Daniel Johnston covers, Dead Dog's Eyeball. (It also features Brian Beattie, her co-lead in Glass Eye, on a multitude of instruments, backing vocals, and co-producing the album.)
Glass Eye's 2nd album Bent By Nature is an excellent introduction to the band. It alternates more serious songs (with McCarty on lead vocals and Brian Beattie harmonizing) with sillier (lyrically) yet no less intriguing songs with Beattie on lead and McCarty on harmony. Their voices are really distinct individually, and quite wonderful together.
this is really impressive
Lovely...
"Is there no more to win this silver thing?"
GREAT JOB!!!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!! I LOVE GLASS EYE!
@aircap Awesome!! Thank you!
Hey man great job on the video. That shit looks legit.
Great song.
Boy, they were a great band, out of Austin. They also did a ass-stomping rendition of Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia" that I think you'd dig.
@@aircap my son was cracking up because of glass eye. I like the S&G song, I'll definitely check it out. I like the bass on this song, great sound.
@@jerrysumner2162 Brian Beattie on bass, fine player and producer. He writes/sings in Glass Eye too.
please give me the lyric
"Time has stolen you from me, Christine." He stared down at her hand, barely seeing. Only the chilling hands of time could have turned these hands all to lines. He held in his hand a metal ring. He said, "Christine, how could you do this to me? Is there no magic in my vow? Is there no virtue in this silvered thing? He laid beneath the sky, Christine. My men and I when day was spent. Trees in the desert spoke their names - and not one was silent. Time has stolen you from me, Christine; has made each prospect fade with the evening. Like a ghost you have withdrawn. Like two children you and time are gone."
mille grazie ;)
@@aircap Great, except it's "WE laid beneath the sky, Christine."
Sounds like Grace Slick with Jefferson Airplane
@madalyn_ Please don't disrespect Glass Eye like that.
