- History Bombs travelled to the source to find out the truth about this historic bit of cloth.
It's the world's most famous tapestry, telling the story of the Battle of Hastings and ending with King Harold getting skewered in the eye with an arrow. But what if I told you that almost everything you think you know about the Bayeux Tapestry is wrong?

Good to see you guys upload again, when can we expect the next one-take?
Love this format!
I’ve read that the figure with the arrow in the eye and the one getting struck down behind him are both Harold. Harold gets hit with an arrow in the eye and then shows him getting chopped down by a Norman Knight. Opinions differ on Harold getting struck with the arrows in his eye but I like to think it really did happen.
I believe the Bayeux tapestry is showing two different individuals!
Possibly the second man is a Housecarl, with that typical Dane war axe ,
being the rear guard and
we also see the front guard being killed by a spear.
Harold Godwinson wouldn't have carry, at the same time,
a shield, a lance , a sword and a hugh Dane war axe !
If the arrow was added a few hundred years later, as they mentioned ,
why then Harold has his right hand in front of his face ?
Difficult to say !
At least , Harold had the time to change his ''socks''
before he hit the ground !!
Here’s a fun exercise. Look at scenes 51 and 52a ( Initial contact, so tierce(?)) Note how the horses are positioned. Now look at Scene 52b and part of Scene 53. Again look at the horses. What do you see? IMO the time is now Sext. Scenes 53, 54, 55 constitute what was happening at None and the rest ( the death of Harold) constitutes Vespers. When you consider it was Norman clergy taking the minutes of the meeting can you see the clergy were taking notes when they were supposed to be holding services?
What is the source of the footage you're using every time the screen says "William"?
'The Napoleonic Wars; in One take.' I beg, of thee.
For people like myself, 70 meters is about 230 feet.
History Bomb, may you make a Video About the Chinese Civil War?
That'd make a great video, especially given the current Sino-US tensions regarding Taiwan.

Hi history bombs. Could you make a history song about the Republic of the Philippines in 4min?
I thought that the arrow was justified because the stitching showed that there was originally something there, with the best guess being an arrow.
correct. he’s got quite a bit wrong in this tbh
Where are you
it’s called the bayeux tapestry because it was commission by Bidhop Odo who was called Odo of bayeux which you seemed to have deliberately missed out. to mention Odo in your video and not his title seems odd when you are talking about the man who commissioned it. It’s also thought that Edward never gave the crown to Harold. he hated the Godwins so much that he refused to sleep with his wife (A Godwin) when she was forced upon (by the Godwins) him to marry. The tapestry also depicts Harold swearing allegiance to william when william makes him a knight and makes him take a solemn Oath on holy relics. something that was taken very seriously back in the day. it’s argued that Harold only swore allegiance to william while in France but that argument seems pretty weak tbh.
