The red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue symbolizes vigilance, perseverance and justice. There are 7 red stripes and 6 white stripes (13 total) representing the original 13 colonies that came together to form the United States. There are currently 50 stars representing the 50 states of the Union.

I am not disputing what you've written. In fact, I agree and wrote a similar explanation.
But, when I was serving in the US Army, they told us: the red stripes represent the blood that has, is, and will be shed for continuing freedom and the white stripes represents truth or purity. I'm not contending to be right, just sharing what I was told.

If you accept the fact that this nation was founded as a Christian Republic, some will also say the Red is for the blood of our Savior, the White is the Holy Spirit and the Blue field of stars represents the heavenly abode of the Father. As a man of faith, I like that as well, but my initial explanation is the more secular one.

This is also the basis that we do not allow our flag to be on the ground to this day! I saw at the Queen's funeral (and I get it I guess) but the British Flag holders put the flag on the ground as her casket passed . . we will not lower our flag for anyone not even a President of the United States and certainly will not put in onto the ground. Our flag has deep meaning to us and 1000's in America fly a flag on their home or yard. . . I do, my neighbors do! It's beautiful - I don't know what party they vote for but I do know we are Americans and we love our country and what that flag stands for! My Dad fought in WWII and rarely talked about it to the day that he died, but he taught me Love of God, Family and Country! GOD BLESS THE USA! This was the War of 1812 and was ultimately when America truly became free from British rule and we were able to claim our freedom - never to be ruled by any other country....yes, because of that Frances Scott Key wrote a poem and the first verse became our national anthem. We are one of the only countries anthem is truly about the history of our wonderful nation!!

Living in, North Carolina we get bad storms in the spring, hurricanes so on... At times my husband hasn't been here, still at work, and the weather starts kicking up, I've gone out probably in 30 mph winds to get our flag down because IT WILL NOT touch that ground, because our ancestors did not let it touch the ground at Fort Henry.
I'm amazed how much these two young individuals know about our history, which is awesome.
We need to make sure our kids continue to know our history of America, and with that I will shut up because I will get political.
      Lol
I saw these two for the first time today, very good job.
      God bless y'all-
YOU brought tears to my eyes.
WE COME FROM A MILITARY FAMILY MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE MILITARY MY DAD, HIS DAD, NOW OUR SONS, and generations going back. So yeah it's more like a family affair. But you have to have the guts to stand up and willing to take a bullet for the land that you love

My Poppa fought in WW II , and when he got home from the war , he raised The American Flag . I'm 52 and as long as I can remember he raised it in the mornings before he left for work and brought it down at night . He taught me and my brother how to fold it , and to never let it touch the ground. When he got Alzheimers, me and my brother , one of us would raise it in the morning and one would take it down at night . Poppa would stand and salute it while we did. He passed in 2011 at the age of 95 and loved our Country so much

This battle happened during the war of 1812, The British army that attacked fort Henry was the same one that burned Washington DC to the ground. They were going to do the same thing to Baltimore, but they had to reduce the fort that defended Baltimore harbor (fort Henry) or their ships would be under fire from the fort and unable to support the invading troops. This miraculous defense, along with Andrew Jackson's unlikely victory in the battle of New Orleans turned the course of that war, and led to a U.S. victory

    • @theaffiliate4208
      @theaffiliate4208 Před 4 měsíci +3

There were 2 ground assaults to take Baltimore, but were repulsed by the American army. So, a navel assault was formed, but first the fort guarding the entrance to the harbor needed to be neutralized and the chains stretching across the entrance to the hardor removed to attack the town. After a 25 hour bombardment of the fort to which the British exhausted most of their ammunition, but still leaving the fort in operational condition and being too dangerous to do close quarter combat with... the British withdrew.

Fort McHenry is best known for its role in the War of 1812, when it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British navy from Chesapeake Bay on September 13-14, 1814. The colors of the flag are symbolic, red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice. 13 stars for 13 colonies at the time, 13 red and white lines also. Not standing and paying respect during the National anthem in the US is particularly disrespectful. The most important event in recent memory was this battle, it brought to an end the war and America was finally a country, a government of the people, by the people, for the people, the first of its kind in human history, it would change the course of history.

Don't feel bad, they don't teach this in OUR history here in the US either. We just get told Francis Scott Key wrote the song, and that is about it. There is a large movement to delete American Patriotism at the youth level through the school system. The government and "teachers" will deny it but it is very obvious to those of us that are paying attention.

We declared our independence July 4th 1776 which is considered to be the start of the Revolutionary War, won our Independence in 1783. The years that followed were hard and full of strife for a new country trying to get started and put a government in place. England had been violating trade and maritime rights, attacking trade ships and forcing the Americans they took from those ships into servitude on their ships as forced labor, or impressment, they were also making deals with Native Americans to attack some of the colonies and the citizens, there were issues from the French Revolution that contributed also - The United States declared WAR in 1812 "The War of 1812 - when the British came back to the U.S. and burned the Capital to the ground trying to take control of the USA again. Because of the cost ( both in Men & money) of the Revolutionary War, the effort put into fighting for our freedom - the War of 1812 was just as important, if not more so - the Americans knew if we lost to the British, and our newfound Flag and Nation could be lost indefinitely, all the sacrifice to win our freedom would be lost, and again we would be under British rule. There would be NO surrender, Our forefathers, many of the Englishmen themselves - were willing to fight to the last man if necessary, to retain our Independence. I am a Veteran - and we will willingly fight for that again, and die if need be, so our children and their children can have the freedoms and liberties that this Country represents...
