Maaannnn, I was so excited about this idea! And don’t get me wrong, I’m sure this is a fantastic idea for puppies.
I got identical supplies, and posted this up for my pitbull today. She LOVED IT…for two minutes. Then snapped the pvc right at the tip of the rebar. Maybe I can rework this for a bigger dog
I can’t even express how thankful I am for men like you!!! I’ve been racking my brain on how to NOT spend hundreds of $$$ for a few of these things for our 7 dogs ranging from 8 lbs.-150+ lbs. You just made this soooo easy! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Please be advised this was built for a puppy. It will not last for large dogs like you are describing. Use much thicker Rebar and possibly place some of those pink fiberglass rebar rods into a larger pipe for more flexibility. I'd hate to see you waste your money or time on something a big dog will break.
@@TKCL thank you for the reply ☺️. I was going to see what they have today, and did anticipate that I’d need thicker rebar, and a more durable/flexible pole. We live next to the SF Bay, and our ground is bay clay under the dirt, so I was even thinking of a Steel Fence U Post w/anchor plate. I’ll need to see what I can do with that, and how to modify your design so it works the same (maybe an anchor spring at the top if what I have to get isn’t flexible enough), but I’m definitely going to make a few like yours for my smaller, less aggressive dogs 😊.
Thanks for the video. I made 2 of them for a fraction of the cost of the ones on Amazon.
Nice! Keep in mind these are for puppies and small dogs. I'm currently designing one for adult dogs.
VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THIS BEFORE BUILDING THIS!!!!!!
Just built this and I’m livid. This does not work well AT ALL if you have big dogs. Did exactly what he said and encased the 3/4” pipe (standard PVC) with a conduit 1.5” PVC pipe to keep the finish looking nice. This setup nearly flew off and if I wasn’t out there would’ve smashed my Shepherd on the mouth. The only reason this one appears to work is because it’s a tiny dog and he has it high enough that he is solely pulling downward and not outward like full grown dogs will FOR SURE DO.
I am now going to have to concrete the entire setup into the ground which is going to cost me a lot of time and now having to make a permanent fixture in my yard (which I didn’t want to do). Will let you guys know but just as a heads up, my three year old shepherd nearly bent the 1/2” rebar in half. So I will likely now have to find a GIANT bolt to fit the 1 1/2” pipe with giant washers and all so I can get a piece of stainless steel that’s about 3/4” thick at MINIMUM to cement into the ground.
As you can tell I am less than thrilled. This guy should have updated or taken this video down when his dog got older and he realized how dangerous this current rig is. I was able to bend the entire thing down to the ground myself even and I’m not a big guy. Shepherd is likely equally as strong. Can’t imagine what would’ve happened if my Rottie would’ve gotten ahold of this.
Great video. I just need something more durable as the pvc pipe snapped in half after 10 minutes of my GSD pulling on it.
These are definitely for small dogs and puppies. I'm working on a design for larger dogs.
So, great idea. I built one, but my dogs bent the rebar in 30 minutes lol. I need to find a sturdier way.
Use larger Rebar, this is definitely for puppies. You can also use a cheap T post and larger pipe.
What a cutie.
Thank you for the tutorial! Only thing I would add - I bought 3/4" irrigation pvc pipe and the 1/2" bolt and nuts slide right in the pipe. Since I already purchased the 1/2" set up, I went back and got the conduit pipe. The conduit pvc has thicker walls and works perfectly as you described. I guess an alternative would be to get a bigger set of nuts and bolts to fit the thinner pvc pipe but it may not be as sturdy. Just an FYI! This also gave me an excuse to purchase a stronger heat gun than my craft one 🙂
Is there a list please?
I wish I could post video or pictures in the comments...
Brother you sir are the MAN for this DIY vid. Thanks! Will be hooking this bad boy up today!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, keep in mind this is for smaller dogs. You'll need to double up the pipe and have thicker Rebar for a bigger dog.
Looks like Kelpie..👍👍
That toy was absolutely worth making. I'm impressed. God bless.
Thank you for watching, God bless!
Now that is a great DIY project!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
I see a build in my future!
Just add a second pipe as the dog grows, Ruger is already getting aggressive with the toy lol.
Great idea, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great video thanks for the diy
Thanks for watching!
Pretty cool toy. Ruger sure is growing up quickly. A beautiful dog.
Growing way to fast 😔
That tug toy almost as cute as Ruger! Nice idea!
Thank you
Cool
Yep I’m with Steve , I see a new toy for our dog also .
Add second pipe for bigger dogs, but works great.
thanks SO MUCH!
Thank you for watching, don't forget to double that pipe up if you have a bigger dog.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
I may just have to invest in this myself!
I need to make one of those for my dog Blue.
Brilliant! Thank you 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
My GSP pup would snap that pipe easily. I need something more stiffer
Double the pipe
I don’t know who likes it more Andrew or Ruger.
Lol we both like it! He went wild on it this afternoon.
That is cool! I'll be making one of those. Thanks
Thank you for watching
Thank you so much for this DIY ❤Your puppy is adorable. 🐾🐶❤️
That's cool
Great idea!
Thanks
I want to make one of these. My German Shepard is a hundred pounds of muscle though. Wondering what pipe would be good for that.
That's a powerful dog. You'll need something very strong, I wouldn't personally recommend building this for a dog that size
He's like my dog. He completely ignores the toy and wants to pull on the rope.
Thanks for creating this video!! I can't wait to make this!!
You are so welcome! Make sure you double up the pipe if you have a larger dog.
I think you will enjoy it as much as Ruger puppy's just make your heart smile
I do enjoy him.
I like your idea of keeping it short. Adding another 2ft to that rope and a dog could end up hanging itself. Gives me chills just thinking about it.
Need to drill a hole for a cotter pin in pipe through rebar so pipe is sure not to come off. Great video!! Thanks !!
Run long enough rebar and it shouldn't be a issue. Mine has never came out.
@@TKCL I have American Bullies. They remove Sheetrock off the wall that’s screwed on. 😂
Lol
@@hankandrox Yeah my boxer/pit mix bent the rebar and pulled the PVC off in less than 2 minutes 😂 He loves this thing though so I gotta find a fix
Thank you boss! Im going to save myself 80$ now lol
FYI…..
If you don’t have a heat gun you can use play sand to mold the pvc .
Just heat the sand inside a gas grill and pour it into the pvc pipe. It’ll make the pvc pipe pliable.
Thats an awesome toy for Ruger. Love the DIY videos.
Thank you for watching
Love how dog does not cooperate with the video. And thanks! Collecting parts to duplicate yours now.
Clark & Deborah: Now that's that Thinker Tinker in You Andrew 👍 Great Job!!!!
Thank you
Just made one today for my corgi - he bent the rebar right away 😂😂😂 any suggestions?
Thicker Rebar and or a cheap T post.
Sweet inexpensive dog tug for Ruger
Working well.
Love it! Great toy
Thank you for watching
How did you attach the toy to the rope? Another clip? Just tie it?
Tied it
Nice build 👍
Thank you for watching
I think Ruger is going to have a lot of fun with his new toy! You should put patens on your inventions.
I played the patent game a couple of decades ago and got burnt. Lost thousands on the process only to have another company produce and sell my idea 😡😡😡😡
@@TKCL that stinks!
Check out the chicken coop on The Smiths.
Very cool man. Getting a chocolate labby here pretty soon, so this will come in handy. I’ll make my own, but definitely will credit you. ✊🏻🖤
Make sure you double the pipe up to handle him getting bigger.
@@TKCL Gotcha, thanks!
That is awesome. My dog is too strong for the PVC though.
It's definitely not for big dogs.
I need to make this, but I would have to buy a torch and that hot air blower thing..lol Guess I will. My dog would love this. Blue Heeler named Ammo. And my part lab Dutchess.
Hair dryer would work just fine. If your dog is bigger, double up the pipe as I suggested in the video.
@@TKCL ok thank you!
Just sent to a friend with a 7 month old German Shorthair that loves to chew and chase butterflies. 👍
Sounds just like my puppy.
Just don’t stake it through your septic system! Lol. Always love the vids brother! Keep up the great work.
No kidding
Great idea, will have to make a smaller one for our mini dachshund!
Thank you for watching
Great video, everything was pretty simple to get and put together. As expected my dog is either too strong or rebar is too weak. He instantly bends the rebar to 90 degrees, lol
Wow! How big is your dog? Crazy he bends steel before pvc 🤔
Did you use the small 1/2 inch Rebar? Use the 5/8s stuff
@@TKCLthat’s probably the case. I used the biggest rebar that was precut to lengths at Lowe’s. I’ll go back and get them to cut me some 5/8” and see how that goes.
@@TKCL he’s a 90lb 10
Month old Belgium Malinois
Oh no, that's way to big of a dog for this. My puppy was a fraction of that size in this video. Your going to need thick steel and double your pipe, slide the one you made into a larger pipe for more strength.
So I just finished making this, and my dog instantly bent the 4 ft piece of rebar 😂 How do I prevent that? I'm using 3/4 PVC pipe and a 4' piece of rebar with half in the ground.
How big is your dog? Are you using larger 5/8 rebar? Don't use the thin 1/2 inch stuff. Double up your pipe if you have a large dog, you will need it.
Now cash5150 has a new toy to play with
🤣🤣🤣
Until we add cheese 🧀 🤔🤔😜
I made something similar for My moms Golden only taller so it had some pretty good spring to it
She out grew it and broke it LOL.
Ended up with a cable between 2 trees.
Mike M.
As Ruger grows I'm adding larger pipe over this one to make it stiffer.
Thanks for the step by step instructions, I made it with ease and my dogs love it! But my 7 yr old 60lb lab tugged it so far down very close to the ground that she bent the rebar 😡.
I used 1/2" x 3' rebar -1 foot deep and 5' electrical PVC. Any suggestions about how to reinforce it or what I need to make another stronger one?
Wow, bent the steel! Try Rebar longer, say 2ft deep at at least 2-3ft above ground. 60lb is pushing the point I'd double the pvc pipe. My puppy in this video was probably half that size.
Well we just made this... and my dogs bent the rebar!!! Now what do I do???😅😢
Wow! Rebar bent before the pvc broke????
@TKCL Yes I thought it was crazy too, I wish I could post pictures
Also, I only had about a 3 ft section of rebar. My Goldendoodle bent it. Would a long rebar help or double the pipe?
Oh wow, bent the Rebar? You've got a strong dog! I'd reinforce everything. I'd do both.
What size pipe would fit over 3/4 inch? 1 1/2 inch?
1 inch pvc will fit over 3/4 conduit.
Thanks for the video brotha! Putting it all together today for my mom's pit bully. Already had the swivel, Nylon rope and dog toy. Rest of items priced
If it's a large dog double up that pipe for strength.
@@TKCL YEP! She's a little power house. Aaaaaand she pulled that rebar out of the ground like it was a garden hose. Haha. Doubling up time now.
How old is Ruger now?
He's growing so fast!
Not even 15 weeks, he's growing way too fast.
Hi Andrew, Ruger is one lucky boy. That's a pretty nice toy you came up with for him. I love watching what you come up with, it never disappoints. ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you
Hi, Andrew! Ruger is a very lucky puppy!! Good project!! Andrew, you have to check out Daniel Arms channel today. He had an amazing machine he was testing. You will be amazed.
I watched it, I actually know Brock, the guy that brought it over.
Bam
You got it 🥇
@@TKCL cash is slacking , that 2 in a row
Yes he is, and so is Chris!
@@JimmyHensley36 they have had me running equipment around getting ready for this winter snowstorm 🌨️.... 🧀🪤 But I'm worth the wait 🥺
November snowstorms in Cali and hurricanes in Florida. The world is weird!
You need to make something that will hold cheese 🧀 so it will keep Chris busy 🤔🤔😜
🤣🤣🤣 That's funny
That’s a great diy:) I’m going to make one for my sons dog for Christmas:) tfs God Bless:)
Thank you for watching, God bless.
If you ever needed money, that's where you'd find it, LOL
Lol I'm waiting for the checks to roll in.
Bumping this video up as 1. Tether tug is unavailable and 2. Hella expensive when they are available.
Just remember to double the pipe if building for a bigger dog.
Thought I would do this rather than drop $100 on the one I found online.. less than $20 but lasted less than a minute here. 🤦🏻♀️ Not going to withstand a bigger/stronger dog in case anyone with one is considering this option. Or maybe my dogs just a jerk.. he’s definitely the reason we can’t have anything nice here. He is a 1 y/o 60 lb Mal-Pit for reference.
60lb is quite large, you should have for sure doubled up the pipe as recommended in this video. Took months for my dog to break the first 3/4 section of pipe, at a few dollars it was worth it. Double the pipe and you get great strength.
It didn’t cross my mind because he is 60 lbs of bones! LOL. We only got him a few weeks ago and I honestly think he’s less than 60 but that’s what his paperwork says. Truth is I was so excited to find this diy that I didn’t hear the part about a bigger pipe.. sooo that’s 100% my fault. I’m honestly not sure the pipe size would matter.. he seemed genuinely determined in getting his ball off that rope.. he would not stop backing up with it and I knew he was going to snap it. I may give a bigger one a shot! I love the idea and it would definitely work for a less destructive dog.. I honestly thought the rope would be the first thing he destroyed. Anyways I think I’m going to see if my sister wants to try it out with her smaller guys since there is still a decent size pipe left! I’m sure I’ll find something that can keep him occupied.. he gets bored and sneaks off to destroy things. Truthfully glad to have found this.. I would rather spend $20 and fail than the $100 I see for them online. I think I need a material similar to a horse whip.. if you have any suggestions I’m open to them. I was by no means being negative towards your diy.. it’s really quite impressive, just warning those with bigger dogs start with more heavy duty material!
yall got yourselves a lazy lab
You obviously don't see him on our livestreams or most wild afternoons. He runs and plays for hours fetching, swimming, chasing our other dog and more.
Andrew you always amaze me. This such a cool toy. We are thinking of another puppy and may have to make a tug toy like yours. Thanks for another great video. Ruger is way too darn cute and growing fast. Again he is one lucky boy to have You and Tiffany and his older brother Bullet.
Thank you very much
