  • This Valedictorian called out her high school's staff for their lack of support and setting bad examples in this scathing grad speech.

In US news, high school graduate Nataly Buhr shocked the audience and the world with her San Ysidro High School valedictorian speech. The headlines will surely read 'Valedictorian shocks world with brutally honest speech,' because in this grad speech she called out teachers and school staff for being negligent and accused one faculty of being a drunk teacher. Buhr hoped students would find her graduation speech inspirational. A rep from Sweetwater Union High School District called the speech 'unfortunate.' Buhr is evidently not the teachers pet.

@@gregoryadkins2213 The way she spoke about it, the school had made it known that they were aware of scholarships. Obviously students should ALSO be looking themselves (as did I), but if the school has a list of them, or perhaps are privy to programs not readily publicized and don't care enough to respond to students' requests, that's a huge problem. Yes, I have hired plenty of people. I was the hiring/regional manager at LOVES for a few years before I decided to go back to school for nuclear engineering. People like the girl in the video make it much farther in life than people like yourself, who don't seem have the gall to stand up for themselves. You can call her whatever you want! P.S. Scholarships are made purposely difficult to come across in the United States, since you can't just apply from anywhere you want. Most are regional, and hyper-specific. We had a teachers assistant at my high school who was pretty cool. She was always different but I've realized in my time since high school how different this woman really was. She was older than most of the teachers probably late 40s early 50s and I remember her asking this one kid how things are at his job. This guy was not the best student and definitely struggled but he managed to graduate. While basically every other high school teacher saw working in high school as a waste of time, this teacher knew that that guy was gonna be working a job like that forever and that his success there while he was in high school was gonna help him move up within the company or a similar company and I'm pretty sure he still is doing something similar to this day. We also asked her one Friday night if she had any plans and she responded with "working my other job". It's pretty cool that she took the time to understand and talk with students like that (and I wasn't much different) where as the rest of the staff it was almost like we didn't exist. Most teachers seem to only really care about their smart kids that are gonna go to a big expensive college or whatever because that's who makes them look good. Rarely is there support for the underprivileged kids (usually males) who are lucky to still be in school because once they graduate they're gonna be into the workforce and none of that will matter to them.

Students who really try have absolutely zero support yet when are to give a speech at the end of the year they are expected to say the most beautiful things. The only thing they COULD do was stand there and wait for it to end and do damage control afterwards.
Honestly, it was a brilliant move by the student because they would have brushed ot under the rug if she "aired her grievances" on a letter or in the privacy of their offices because they protect each other and their jobs so nothing would have been done. Epically if she had waited until after the graduation - they would say shes no longer a student and dismiss her.
So doing it this way forces them to hear her and address the issues because now the media and everyone else knows and are watching their response.

WHAT THEY HAVE DONE HAS CAUSED SO MANY DEATHS NOT ONLY TO THE CHILDREN AFFECTED BUT ALSO TO OTHERS WHEN CONFUSED HURT CHILDREN LASHED OUT AT OTHERS CAUSING EVEN MORE DEATHS. THIS NEEDS TO STOP. EVERYONE EXPECTS THE PARENTS TO STAND UP AND THEY SHOULD BUT THE STAFF STOPS THE PARENTS WITH FEAR OF EVEN SPEAKING OUT AGAINT WHAT THEY DO. AFRAID THEY WILL TAKE THEIR KIDS AWAY AND DO EVEN WORSE TO THEM THEN WHAT THEY ALREADY DO. ITS TIME FOR EVERYONE TO STAND UP CHDREN, PARENTS AND STAFF. TELL THEM THAT YOU WILL NOT TAKE PART IN HARMING THE CHILDREN AND HOLDING THEM BACK AND TEACHING THEM WRONG ANYMORE. Am I perfect no, nobody is. I have done things too and held my child back accidentally because of the abuse I endured myself. But I died and I am new in spirit and raised up in spirit. I have repented of my sins. God says its time to stand up. Its time to speak out. And I am so proud of this girl. ❤

If she's valedictorian & the staff treated her that way... What can be said for the other "regular" students? I can only imagine how much worse their neglect must be

That was my least liked teacher. The one who had nothing for the average, or the struggling, but instead elected to pour all their attention into the gifted students as if they were the ones that needed the help learning to be a better student. As though some future famous author was going to vindicate all the years they committed to the teaching profession with some fold out in a book sleeve, "About the author," where they thank the English teacher that inspired them back in highschool.
I find that, among Christian's, this is also the same person to whom the "going *to* church," will never be as important to them as the "being seen *at* church," is.

My staff at my shool was terrible!! They always made appointments that never ended up being fulfilled and I genuinely feel like my school district let so many students who needed actual help slip through the cracks. I skipped classes everyday because I was being bullied and would cry in the staircase almost every day but all I got were scathing phone calls to home rather than giving me the help I asked for several times. my skipping made me behind in my classes and so instead of taking the classes I needed they put a bunch of electives instead of my core classes. Luckily I got out of there my senior year and I don't miss it at all but I never made good high school memories and that's what I regret most

Well it is kinda self centered.. i mean "you didnt support me" you didn't help me". She took away all the good things that other teachers did. With that kind of an attitude no school is going to want her.

Rotten Apple The video mentioned that the first half of her speech recognized the actually helpful people, and thanked them. She was calling people out for not doing their jobs, which is to help her and her fellow students.

Karen Flores you could say that but something that happens way too often in high schools that no one really talks about is how teachers know the power they have and how they will sometimes abuse it. My college counselor has purposely submitted college apps of students she disliked late. No one believes the students and students aren’t willing to speak up during their time in school because it could mean risking your future. I did the same thing she did, where on the last day of sophomore year I make my feelings explicitly clear to my English teacher who did not like me and purposely sabotaged my grades.
