    I have a local music school in PA that I think would get more brand awareness from a billboard. I run digital and local print in the region also. I was thinking of running the outdoor in July when everyone's outside!

    Living in a town of 10.000 habitants, in this whole town, there is one single paper billboard from 2009 with one single advertisement. I was thinking about installing some digital billboards on bus stops because daily there are many many people driving through the town (it is situated between two relatively big cities)

    So I sell solar panels and back up batteries. Biggest goal is to drive people to my website. All of my competitors (big and small) have digital ads literally everywhere but no one has billboards and/or any good content. Thoughts?

    • @JaredVanderMeer
      @JaredVanderMeer  Před 3 lety

      Solar panels are a large ticket item still. Which means, home owners will typically be in the position to make the purchase. If I make some assumptions - the owners will be a little older and some will use google, some still will look in the paper, radio, billboards, word of mouth for contractors. I would say a billboard in a high traffic region between your most likely to install neighborhoods could play well. But still use some online ads to stay in contact with your competitors.

    ONE OF THE BUSINESSES I WANTED TO ADVERTISE WAS A Theme based YACHT PARTIES IN NEW YORK. I WANTED TO APPEAL TO THE TOURISTS ESPECIALLY. ANOTHER IS A MAGAZINE I'M PUTTING TOGETHER THAT REALLY HIGHLIGHTS THE UP AND COMING ARTISTS, UP AND COMING BUSINESSES MEDIA INDUSTRY PEOPLE FROM BEHIND THE CAMERAS ETC & WHAT THEY'RE DOING TO GROW THEIR BUSINESSES THATS SO ECLECTIC.
    I ALSO WORK A LOT WITH PERFORMING ARTISTS AND I DO PLACEMENTS SO I REFER SERVICES FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS TO GROW THEIR SHOW AND HONE THEIR OWN BUSINESSES. ARE BILLBOARDS A GOOD FIT FOR THESE ENDEAVORS IN YOUR OPINION? AND IF SO WHAT'S A GOOD PRICE THAT YOU THINK BECAUSE I'M HEARING A LOT OF DIFFERENT PRICES FOR THESE BILLBOARDS PER IMPRESSION.

      @JaredVanderMeer  Před 2 lety +3

      Hey! Really tough one. Your business is heavily regulated where online ads do not typically run anyway. So moving to traditional is your only option.
      If allowed, a billboard could play if put in the right location. But I would personally look at high frequency radio ads on the right stations for your audience.

  • @dmmarketing7220

    Great video! I think billboards are still super relevant depending on where you advertise. I'm thinking about buying a billboard for a pay per call offer for water restoration damage in the USA, but I would buy it in an area where water damage is problematic. What do you think?

    • @JaredVanderMeer
      @JaredVanderMeer  Před 2 lety

      That’s a tough one. The restoration industry is competitive. And very rarely would someone remember a billboard when in a panic cause of a property emergency. I personally would stick to online and search ads, while expensive, they might convert more. -- if you offer additional service that are less required in a panic (like contracting, etc) then a billboard could play as a combined effort.

    I am a writer and have been seriously struggling with getting my independently published novels seen online. Even ads with Google, Facebook or Amazon (and other book selling/publishing sites) don't get much traction. Those who have seen/read the books love them, but I'm just not getting much traction online. I am considering putting them on billboards with an Audible icon or something on them so people know they can listen to them while commuting.

    landscaping snow removal business in Ontario, looking at ten billboards across the city of Hamilton, Thoughts?

    • @JaredVanderMeer
      @JaredVanderMeer  Před 2 lety +1

      My first business was landscaping in Edmonton… and I would not buy a billboard for it in todays current world.
      Snow removal is often commercial, property management and larger property owner based. Very much word of mouth and door-to-door style development.
      Landscaping and lawn mowing is very much going to be best suited with Google Ads and FB/Insta ads. (Note I am not talking about basic and generic ads, I think you should do a highly planned and executed retargeting campaign, that serves ads to your audience only when the service is “in season”.

    • @JaredVanderMeer
      @JaredVanderMeer  Před 2 lety

      If you did do billboards, put a tracking phone number (a new number or forwarding number) on the boards so you can tell if they work or not. However, again $5000-8000 on billboards… that goes a long way on a sophisticated google search campaign each month.

      Hey Paul, assuming your demographic is 40+, and as people start driving and visiting stores more again. Both will do the job.
      I think social ads may be a bit cheaper for the same reach still.
      Billboard may help validate you for people driving near your location.

    I know this video is from 2020, but there is, in Canada, an advertising credit for your business taxes. In Canada, as long as your ad is targeted towards Canadians, in Canadian published material (newspaper, magazine, billboards) you write off up to 100% of that cost. So if your billboard reaches 50,000 people, and your current out of pocket cost was $1000, when you write that cost off at the end of the year, your cost becomes $0 to reach those 50,000 people. Check out your federal, state, provincial small business tax credits as well as talk to a CPA about it!!

      No worries. If you are set on a billboard I could get on board if you focus on a specific region or municipality for a majority of your customers. Or have seen a large portion of your customers come from that region in the past. Cause it could help validate your service.
      Otherwise radio will get you out to the same region, but it will be wider and more likely to brand you as the injury lawyer in that region.

    • @JaredVanderMeer
      @JaredVanderMeer  Před 2 lety +1

      Stay online. Digital billboards change to quick in most cases. This means the audience driving by only sees the billboard at a fraction of your paid price, and often the recognition is not retained.

    • @JaredVanderMeer
      @JaredVanderMeer  Před 2 lety +1

      If you do go billboard, try find one that’s only you on it. But again, $1700/month at $15 per click (just guessing it’s around this) to the right “in-market” audience in Google Ads will take your budget much further then a billboard will.
