Okay, stop! I'm an actual IT technician, and I'm surprised at the advice given here. Simply open your Command Prompt (Hint: search cmd) When it opens, type: wmic memphysical get maxcapacity
This will show you how much your motherboard and processor are designed to take. Don't go looking for computer's like yours for sale! That's a waste of time!
Next, to know more about your computer, at the command prompt, type: system info, and voila, you now know enough to impress your local pc geek! And you did it all without opening the pc!

Thank you! You answered all my questions. I can order a new RAM stick with confidence that it will be compatible with my laptop. I hope replacing the RAM fixes the problem, but if not, I'm only out a few dollars. My laptop was really cheap and it's just not cost effective for me to take it to a technician.

What is the issue your looking to fix?
Also, many sites like Ebay, Amazon, etc will allow you to return an item simply for not needing it any more. That may be a good option if it turns out to not be the issue

@@PC_Monkey The screen went dark on my laptop. When this happened, I was duplicating the screen to a larger monitor. It continued to display on the larger monitor. The next day I restarted the laptop and it would not display on the secondary monitor. Changing the RAM was the cheapest and easiest suggested fix I could find. I ordered the RAM from an Ebay seller, and they allow returns. All my files are backed up, so I'll be OK if the cheap fix doesn't work. I'm not willing to spend money on a professional repair technician for a $200 laptop. Thank goodness for CZcams videos like yours.
