- Hill climbing action in the prologue race at the 2023 Silver Kings Hard Enduro. This will set up the starting order for the main 6 hour race the next day.
Some info on my tire setup for the race:
It didnt rain this year at Silver Mountain so it wasnt just a pure slick show out there like the previous year. The dirt conditions were perfect with a moist dirt, the creek beds and some of the roots and climbs did have some slick sections in them though. I went with the best gummy I've ridden which is the Mitas EF07 double green in the huge 140/80 size. I had a pretty worn in Michelin M22 120/80-19 in it with a 4" chunk removed from it so it was undersized and semi soft. This is what I've been training in the slick with and it's been good. But after the prologue race where there were one or two slick roots I decided I wanted the bib softer so I used the TBC bib bit and drilled 1" holes horizontally every 4" on center or so. The holes gave the bib more flex so more grip. On the main race day I was getting excellent traction, on some of the insanely steep downhills I was really surprised that the tire was like tracking down the hill and slowing me down rather than just sliding down the hill out of control, that was a really good feeling. I made it up the slick grassy hill bottleneck with good traction and the large size tire helped in side hilling across it better so I was able to make a pass on a lot of people there which left me with basically no bottlenecks (other than 1 or 2 people) the rest of the race. The big 140 tire size was gripping in the slick creeks and helping me pick up momentum to get through them. There were a couple super slick sections that I had to push or lift the bike up but I feel like for the most part I was getting great traction and pushing through the race at a good pace because of it.

I watched Trystan Harts qualifier in this event. Absolutely unbelievable! Hypnotic! Like it was on fast forward. I’ve never seen anything like it and I don’t know how anyone could go faster than he did. If in fact anyone did. Just mental.
haha yeah his gopro videos always look fast so you know he's going really fast. he had the harder course too with one extra hard climb I believe
As always another Great Video! RIDE ON
glad you liked it!
Awesome video and commentary mate 👍
glad to hear you liked it
Sweet!!
thanks man awesome job grabbing 2nd place!!
Thank you for sharing! We was there this year and my husband Slade Raine did the pro class but his Go Pro never captured everything. It was for sure the hardest race we’ve have ever attempted! Our last name starts with R too so this is very relate-able for someone having to start towards the back and work around people. 😅
haha maybe next year they will be nice and go last name backwards like they sometimes would do in grade school for the lunch line hah
Great video 👍
cheers
Great video. 👍🇺🇸
thanks
love that commentary so good, keep up the vids, and i have a question is there a class in these races for a 16 year old that is not the best but can do what you did but just slower?
Hard enduro is still kind of small so not a ton of classes. You could do the b class or c class though. Not really by age
Thanks for sharing! Curious what handlebar bag you're using. I went with the giant loop and it's a bit small.
Thanks it’s the Trailbound medium I make 2 sizes

Wasn’t Tristan hart in this race too i don’t know anything about classes but he has a video he posted 2 days ago that looks like the same race and he was in grinding stone
Yep he is pro so he had a slightly harder course on this prologue. When I post the main race you’ll see him pass me at one point. I’m in the A class the one right under pro
Oh cool
What gopro mount do you use
I used the USWE mount that attaches to their bag so it's on my chest. then like one of the taller buckles with the gopro upside down
