Back to The Future: The Clocks... Doc knew? Or Coincidence

  • This video suggests from the very beginning of the film somehow Doc knew the future already before Marty even time-traveled.. This goes against the laws of the single timeline theory in the film... This Trilogy is based ONE timeline. So, once Marty changes time, the mall name changes (twin pines mall to lone mine mall, etc), and everything and everyone around him does too.. So, in the opening sequence of the film, Doc did indeed die.... and never experienced everything we witness later throughout the film.... Marty changes that later and changes this very timeline... So, why this clock??? Never heard anyone bring this up, thus far.....

    As pointed out by JAY OH, that clock depicts Harold Lloyd hanging from a clock in “Safety Last”. My guess is that's a tribute that also foreshadowed later events. As a bonus, the two actors shared the same name (not being related tho). Like, everything's falling into place.

      I realized that after the fact. The clock is based on actor Harold Lloyd hanging from a clock tower. And as you mentioned the next actor was Christopher Lloyd to do the same thing. Fun fact. In the beginning of the film, the cement of the clock tower is in solid shape. When Marty returns and the helicopter points at it, the cement is clearly still destroyed just as Doc had done in '55. There are so many easter eggs. No one seems to notice this one...

      @@kencaribbean7728 The Kit Cat Klock was introduced in 1932 by the Allied Clock Company(now called the California Clock Company), and has changed little over time(such as the addition of front paws in the 1950s). They come in many different colors (black is most common), and older clocks, such as the one in BTTF was powered by 120volts AC. Kit Cat Klocks made today are battery powered, and there's even a female variant (called the lady Kit Cat Klock) with eyelashes and a necklace in place of the bow tie found on the gentleman.

      "The 1985 film Back to the Future pays homage to Harold Lloyd "dangling from the skyscraper" by having one of the film's stars Christopher Lloyd (no relation to Harold) hang from a clock tower as part of the plot. In addition, a meta-reference appears in the opening scene of Back to the Future, in the form of a physical table clock which depicts the Safety Last! scene."

      Does yours tick fairly fast - or is it quiet with the eyes/tail moving slowly? In the film, the latter is the case, the movement derived via the gearing from the synchronous mains driven motor. In the later version, shown on a new series called "Retro Workshop", the clock is battery and uses the tail as a false pendulum and thus a much faster swing. Nothing wrong with that, but it would make a bit of sound. If yours is mains driven, it will be rare! B.W..

    I never understood how Doc said, "Perfect. My experiment worked. They're all 25 minutes slow." What experiment did he do. No way did he put those clocks in the car. They're too delicate. Then bring them back to his lab, THEN hours later realize they're slow. Anyone?

      @eliasschmidt4112 Před 7 lety

    Oh geez, there's no mystery here. Look at any Harold Lloyd silent B&W film and you'll see him hanging from a clock... Zemeckis and Gale, the writers, surely knew that and tried to make a tongue-in-check with the Doc Brown famous scene. If not, one of the producers put that clock, knowing the script beforehand.

    To- The Torch: I do SO, SO love the Back to the Future Trilogy already- QUITE a bit!!! Though this time, I came to watch this video- because of the Kit Cat Klock. I was researching a bit on the web, about what movies the Kit Cat Klock is in/is featured in- & I was reminded that Back to the Future- Part 1, is one of the movies that the Kit Cat Klock is in. INDEED, when I watched this video- sure enough- I saw it, the original black model- up on the wall!!! I even decided that I felt I had to have one for myself, so earlier today- I ordered myself a Kit Cat Klock. Though I decided to order & DID order for myself, this model: Autumn Delight. That is too, the Gentleman Version. SO yeah &- Yay!!!!!! Also, I so did NOT notice w' the silver clock, that a man is hanging from the clock- JUST like Doc Brown was hanging from the clock towards the end of the movie, trying to help get Marty/send him back- to 1985. That is indeed QUITE interesting!!! Perhaps a bit of foreshadowing?! Next time I watch Part 1, I'm sure I will pay attention this time to that part- in the movie. I do own the trilogy on DVD. Anyways, thanks & i hope you enjoy your evening. Take care!!!
