Sam, this is a great look at this light, but in the end it is just a light that is crazy expensive. A person would have to be quite wealthy, or have everything provided to him/her to go out and purchase this light. Thank you for the great, honest review. I think it would be great, but I could not justify this purchase when there are more economical choices out there that may not have all these features, but will do the same thing in the end. Thanks again. It looks like a first class solution for sure.

I had this same initial response, but ultimately ordered one. I have quite a few cheap ($15 or so) 12W LED desk lamps all over my house, the wires are a pain and I'm always knocking them over. Also the lighting is pretty poor even at 12W. When I get mine I'll try to check back in and let you know if I think the price tag on this ($350) is justified or not. Update: it has arrived and I've been using it for a few days, it's a really great lamp. Much more light than the cheap ones I used before, and it's awesome that you can grab it and move it around. Literally my only problem with the lamp is the price tag, which does make it hard to recommend.

@@gatesourcevoltage It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the lamp and whether it's worth the money. As a visually impaired person, I can't help but feel like we're often taken advantage of when it comes to pricing for products aimed at the low-vision market.

    • @gatesourcevoltage
      @gatesourcevoltage Před 2 lety

@@llazare I think it really comes down to economies of scale not manipulation tactics. I am a major cheapskate, and most of the assistive technology I use is free or cheap, like apps for my phone for magnifying, OCR etc. Man I love this lamp, but it really is hard to recommend being 350. Is it worth 350? I'm still not sure, I use it every day and it's very convenient... But I do have to kind of forget how much money I spent on it to really enjoy it lol

you can see if the state office for the blind can assist you with purchasing. Another great lite is the OTT lite desk model and is sold at joann fabrics. It is not cordless but is affordable when they have 50% off sales or coupons...This Stella is a superb light...but all may not be able to afford

I use a headlamp that puts light right where I am looking. It was about $15 on Amazon and is rechargeable. If I needed a desk lamp, this is something to look at.

Thanks for shedding some light on this situation! Unfortunately, like @ least 80% of the comments, $320 is OBSCENELY OVER PRICED. Talk about "taking advantage of those in need"! We need help, and not with the lightening of our wallets.

Light is good, but what I found to be the most helpful is going to white floors. I had my hardwood floors covered with a nice vinyl plank in a white oak color. I have severe dry macular , para macular degeneration and vision, light is dimming. To see if this will help, visit any place with the white floors and see if you feel more secure with mobility.

Thanks for another great video Sam, love the variety of products you review. I already own the Stella Go and it is the most versatile tool I have bought myself since I have had retina issues. It is beyond handy to be able to use it in various locations around the house. I worked in television with high quality studio lighting for decades and this is a high quality instrument with high quality LEDs. I am even back to doing jigsaw puzzles that I had given up with the use of my Stella Go.

Thanks for the review. I do not have a typical visual impairment, but I am super sensitive to light so I function most of the time in low lighting. Typical lamps and especially overhead lights really bother me. But I still do benefit from light occasionally, like when cooking, writing, or crafting. I typically carry around a book light that I use for almost every…like I used it to paint my nails tonight. This looks like a giant version of that and I think would be really handy. I could direct the light only onto what I need to see and control the brightness and color.

@@theblindlife Unfortunately, it did not. As Mr. Magoo says, this lamp is crazy expensive. I'll pay to make my wife's blind life better, but this just didn't do it. One item that really needs to be included with this expensive set-up is Alexa (and Google Home) capability. Why search for a touch button when you can simply say, "Alexa, dim the light"? The ability to march the unit around the house wasn't of as much use as we anticipated. And returns are not free. You need to box them up in "restockable condition" and ship them back insured UPS at your own expense. So sorry we bought this.

What a great solution! Just ordered. I've spent so much time setting up bright task lighting around the house. There either isn't space to install/set up a light, or doing so would ruin the aesthetics of a room. This light solves all of that. Just set it on a flat surface and do the thing. Thank you so much for this review, Sam!

      Hi Sam,
This seems expensive for a portable lamp which I believe has a limited number of charges before it has to be tossed. Looks like the bulbs aren't replaceable. Is that correct? Also looks like at its brightest, it's the equivalent of a 100-watt incandescent bulb. Is that correct? In inches, how close to a piece of paper on a desk can the lamp head get before toppling over?
Are you aware of any corded non- portable desk lamps which have a higher level of illumination?
Thanks for reviewing desk lamps! Spot on - good lighting is very important for those with low vision! Great detailed review! Bring us more lamps, please!

This looks like a nice light, and the wireless charging pad is an awesome idea, but IMO isn't worth the price. There are lights on Amazon for like $20 that honestly don't look much different (granted, without the wireless charging and probably lower quality).
Also, if it's designed for the visually impaired, having touch sensitive buttons is a huge oversight.

hi...if you can't afford this one..the ott lite sold at joann fabrics is a good option. They are on sale for 50% off every once in a while...it has a 13 watt bulb. Its the position of the light that also is the most important. 12 inches from the page that you are viewing. good luck!
