  • I have waited 2.5 years for this night to arrive - the night I would sleep in my self-milled/self-built cabin perched out over a cliff, in the middle of nowhere. (well, on our remote 20 acre off-grid property). I now have to drive out the winter route, which is 2 hours each way. So getting out there is a dedicated and special event.
This time Luna, our newest rescue, gets to come with me. She's been with us for a little over 2 weeks now, and is doing amazingly well. She was set to get spayed, but they almost didn't go ahead with it as they said she went into heat - she must have gone into heat that day because no one was interested in her prior to then. Lenny, for reference, isn't neutered (he is scheduled to have surgery soon), but the second I brought her in the door after her surgery, Lenny (and everyone else for that matter) was all over her! For a solid week she was in heat, but recovering from surgery, but Lenny has been IN LOVE! It's been really nice to finally see Lenny really thrive, and feel alive again. He is chronically lethargic, maybe in pain, doesn't wanna eat or socialize with us...he's the only rescue that hasn't thrived in our house (but he has a serious plethora of health issues that are sure to contribute to the problem). Anyway...the hormones are fading as I write this, and he (Lenny) is slowly reverting to his old self again, but hopefully Luna will keep his spirits alive a bit longer here. She has brought some life and spunk into the rest of the old farts in the house, which is one of the main reasons I wanted to add a younger female to the pack. Ya know, sometimes it just takes a younger gal in the mix of a bunch of old men to liven things up a bit, right!?!?!? 🤭😝
My cabin is getting close to completion. I can't believe I spent a night in it you guys! It was honestly a bit of a magical feeling; like a bit of a Christmas gift! Santa came!
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get the wood stove hooked up, but luckily I had a back up plan, PLUS, it wasn't that cold (by our standards). So we managed just fine with a propane heater. I also sealed the cabin in while I was there - so all the windows are foamed in and sealed in. Once I get the stove hooked up, I'm all set to stay a night or two out there and really get work done!
I showed Luna a bit more of the property - took her to the 'meadow', which is the halfway point of the property (which I've talked about lots before), but that is truly the most amazing spot on that property because you get a 180 degree view of the lake, AND, there's more room to roam around than the cliff.
I've been thinking about the next steps on this build, and I think I have a plan!
Thanks for watching, and see you in the next video.
    Merry Christmas my friends 🎄
    M 💕💕

Merry Christmas Michy and Steve. There is a hand tool for crimping the ducts. Even though one end is crimped, sometimes it needs just that little bit of extra. You can also do it with needle nose pliers. You may need only to do three or four extra crimps to shrink it enough to fit. You do not necessarily need the added crimping to run as long as the "factory" crimp. About 1/2 to 1 inch should be enough to get it started. Not knowing your plan, I do advise at least one screw in each joint to ensure no separation, then wrap with foil tape to seal it. WOW, I had not realized how long I have been watching your vids. Again, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

you can also use a hose clamp to pull the crimp in enough to get it started. and never forget lubrication is your friend. graphite maybe for this application but there a million things you can use in a pinch. just make sure it wont stink or smoke too bad if it gets a little heat.@@michygoss7148

I had a idea what about a second porch roof line at each side of the roof covering the porch to shed the snow to the ground. If you use plexiglass it will still allow the light through. And for your chimney pipe use a large screw hose clamp to reduce the diameter to get it started. Then remove it. Have fun 😊

Try pinching one side of the pipe and rolling it into the other if that doesn’t work, switch the pipes around and try to get them to go together that way, and if that doesn’t work, you may need to get a crimper and crimp the knurled end of the pipe also make sure that your seams are lined up with each other… good luck, but I know that you have this you can do it… 🇺🇸👊🏼👊🏼🌷

What if you used a temporary stainless hose clamp to squeeze the corrugated end until it is started? Put it on the corrugated end with just about 5mm (3/16") sticking out past the clamp. Slide it in till the other piece hits the clamp, then remove the clamp.

    Michelle,
In your latest video, to get the chimney pipes together, you need to compress the crimped part to make it a bit smaller. If you can’t push it hard enough with your fingers, you can try anything you have on hand. Easiest is a hose clamp with a screw (or several of them connected together if you don’t have a long one) or you can use a piece of wire and twist the connection or even a shoe lace tied around and put a stick through and twist.
Hope it will not give you as much grief the next time.
    Good luck!

  • @Lumber_Jack
    @Lumber_Jack Před 7 měsíci

Great video (as usual). There is a crimping tool you can use to pinch in the male end of a stove pipe, HVAC duct, or gutter downspout, to make it slip into the female end more easily. I think you just need one pass with the crimper to pinch in the existing convolutions and your pipes will go together much more easily. Look for a "duct crimper" at your favorite store and it will do the trick. It's an inexpensive hand tool.

Take a shoe lace, tie in a loop, use a screw driver like a tunicate and twist the lace until it slightly collapses that corrugated section of the pipe enough to slip the other end on . Ratchet strap material might work better, but might be to wide. Good luck.

You can use a hose clamp (like what you use on the dryer vent) to compress the crimped end though to get it going

Get a large Hose clamp and wrap it around the end of the serrated end of the pipe. Tighten it with an impact wrench to make the end smaller. This may allow you to get the pipes started

Hey Michy, thanx for the "Meadow" view, and for the Image of You at 17:30. That Image says so many things in so many ways about Your Character and how You see the World. Thanx for that also. The Meadow would be my choice for building, looking forward to what will happen there.😃

More info, you will crimp on top of the crimps with the crimper. Tape joints with metal tape and then three self tapping sheet metal screws with nut driver or whatever its called. Just double crimped a piece of 5 inch pipe yesterday as i am rebuilding the duct work on my house as the basement was gutted and ducts needed rerouted

Zoomies!!! The 1y/o German Shepherd we just rescued does it the exact same way Luna dones....Almost. He gets so excited he also farts when he's doing it. It's hilarious! He just kicks into afterburner. He's a great dog, and we couldn't have rescued a better pup. Merry Christmas to you guys in the Great White North. Stay safe!

The cabin is going to be Luna‘s favorite place as she gets to spend the entire time one on one with you. Hope y’all have a merry merry Christmas.

Maybe a strong jubilee clip to compress a little the one end to make it easier to get it started.

My dog died 2 days ago. She was a blue tick hound and I miss here terribly. Watching Luna run around and playing made me smile and I am thankful for that.
