Aram Ilyich Khachaturian (Արամ Եղիայի Խաչատրյան (Aram Yeghiayi Khach’atryan) /Арам Ильич Хачатурян (Aram Il’ich Khachaturyan) (1903-78) was an Armenian/Soviet composer who blended elements of his native Armenian music with modern harmonies. He wrote music of various genres, and he is best known for his concertos and ballet music.
The original is an anti-Nazi film directed by Mikhail Romm. A Russian girl, Tatyana Krylova is forcibly taken to Germany with her friend Klava Vasilyeva as Ostarbeiter. Tatyana is taken as a maid by Kraus' household, where they burdens her with heavy work and humiliations. She steps up to stop abuse on a fellow worker (Sergey, who is a mathematician, and members of the Kraus family, Johann and Rudolf Perschke (fiance of the daughter Lotte) beats him up for wasting their paper), and is sent to prison.
Later, Kraus’ son, Max, returns, and with Johann, kills Sergey through falsely accusing him of slandering the German authorities. That night, Tatyana kills Max, and then escapes with Klava (who was in a factory nearby) during a Soviet air raid. Klava dies from the abuse from the factory, and Tatyana survives to see a parade of captured German soldiers in Moscow.
