    Leaves from the Vine playing in the background of Lu Ten’s wake is the most beautiful moment in this series

    Maybe controversial opinion here, but Bumi is right, you have to make hard decisions, you can’t always rely on other people to help you or giant spectral island gods to give your non-descript powers

      I know a lot of people really wanted the chaotic jokester madman Bumi, but I personally feel like this is a MUCH better and more mature take on the character.
      Bumi has spent longer fighting this war than anybody else alive, and he also spent all that time believing his best friend was killed with all the other Airbenders, and for some reason during those 100 years, the Avatar never re-appeared.
      Then, suddenly, he starts hearing reports of an Airbending child in Omashu. He hears rumors this Airbender could even be the Avatar.
      And then he discovers this Airbender IS his childhood friend, somehow still a child.
      It'd mess me up too, to think my best friend was off hiding somewhere, never aging while I fought tooth and nail to keep my people safe from the Fire Nation, a responsibility that should have been his, a war that he should have ended decades ago.
      All the guilt I'd feel over the impossible choices I had made would turn into anger towards this friend of mine, who dared to shirk his duties when the world needed him most.
      He does, of course, come around after some time, but this was a very human reaction from Bumi.

    As much as I loved the Zuko Iroh story in this and all of the series .... I actually think Bumi and Aang's performance was very good and powerful here. If you take this realistically compared to the animated series being more goofy as we love it originally btw, you can see Bumi was hurt that he had to live through the war alone and without his friend who knew he was the Avatar. I think the repetitions were important to what he was feeling inside. (At one point during the fight you can see Bumi crying). And he actually was ready to sacrifice himself to show him the hard choices he has to make being the avatar in the future. As Bumi had to make those hard choices himself for his kingdom alone. Let alone saving the world for Aang's future choices.
    Let alone that. Loved this series and the adaptations. Love the reactions guys. :)

    Katara is right when she points out that Jett is so consumed by rage. For a guy who fights for freedom he sounds frighteningly similar to the fire benders who are also fueled by rage.

    99% certain they won't be doing Kataang.
    Let's just put it this way, Aang's actor is 14 and Katara's is almost 18.

    At this point you should know that this Aang is from another universe. By accepting that this is different then maybe you can focus on the show and not concluding at the middle of it. Because for me, sometimes I feel like you're losing focus and missing some parts because you both were busy discussing how it is wrong and how it should be while the show was still going on. For example, how can you know the new Bumi or their version of Bumi if you both were already rejecting him talking about it and not paying attention anymore on the show. You will discuss it anyway what you like or don't like about their own adaptation after the show. But still it is a good reaction overall.

      Overall it's just not that good if we're being honest.... it's a 5 or 6 out of 10 and people are constantly being forced to make excuses as to why it's good... if it was good there would be no need to explain to people why it's good... it's OK 6/10 mostly due to the visual effects... acting and writing are subpar

    Just wanted to comment that both of you have very thoughtful analyses about the episodes you watch! Contrary to some of the other comments here, I think you've been very clear in your criticisms that they primarily concern how the episode is written and structured as is and not simply because it has deviations from the source material.
    In fact, considering how good the original Lu Ten funeral scene was, I think the season may have benefitted from being more ruthless in cutting out plot beats from the source material (which I dearly love) to get some more focus on the core story they want to tell each episode and across the season.

    It kinda made sense to me that everyone Aang meets is jaded and pissed he “left”. At each point he manages to change their mind.
    In my opinion book 1 of the cartoon is like a 7/10 and season 1 of the show is an 8/10.

      Yes, I agree. I think you miss all the times in the video where we praise the new decisions the live action adaptation made. I agree that nit picking isn't fair but what we are doing is not that, we are addressing valid criticisms and concerns about the story they choose to tell. It is very fair to call out things that were handled poorly.

      I mean I think we are. We were overall pretty positive on the episode but it is fair for us to criticize the sloppy writing and scene construction. I found some of the stuff they Introduced interesting but it was handled poorly. Seemed like superficial changes that we sped through because we had to copy the animated series unnecessarily at times.

    • @gc8262
      @gc8262 Před 6 měsíci +1

      I agree. It was annoying watching them comment "wait, that was later in the season" "wait, why are rushing?" If you're expecting it to be exactly like the animated series. You're honestly just setting yourself up to disappointment. Leave your expectations to the side and watch it for what it is.
      Saying it's "sloppy and handled poorly" is a cop-out. I felt like they did the best they could do with what they had. BUT at the end of the day everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I just disagree with theirs.

      @@gc8262 sorry that we are reacting to things in our reaction video 🤷🏻‍♂️. I liked this episode quite a bit. Even if it was early seeing the musicians was fun especially hearing the secret tunnel song. I wasn't a big fan of their take on bumi at first but after awhile it didn't bother me as much. I read one comment on this episode saying it was like they gave bumi the personality the fisherman character had of being angry that aang. I'm not sure if that's entirely true, but it does kinda remind me of that. At the end of the day fun episode and I'm glad they at least ended on a positive note with aang and bumi being friends again.

      @TheMontyVerse Yeah, I agree they definitely could have written it better. At least we can both agree that the actor did a good job in the role. Also, I love they kept the ending with aang and bumi riding the delivery chute and even having althe cabbage merchants' signature catchphrase again at the end.

    • @TheMontyVerse
      @TheMontyVerse  Před 6 měsíci +3

      This is a hilariously ignorant statement, I'm sorry but when you say this you are essentially saying that nothing can be criticized and we should accept everything that is thrown at us. It is ok when we praise the first two episodes but as soon as we start addressing serious concerns about the series our opinions don't matter? Why watch a review video at all then if you are unwillingly to listen to an opinion that differs from yours? I think it is important for criticize to exist to help the learning process, I hope the creators see a lot of these concerns people are addressing and learn from it for season two. It's just weird because we were overall pretty positive on this episode so why focus on the negative?

    • @MadGameHouse
      @MadGameHouse Před 6 měsíci

      What a stupid thing to say. So what people aren’t allowed to criticize anything if they can’t do the same or better? You sound like you’re tired that people don’t share the same positive opinion of the show that you have. You say they aren’t allowed to nitpick everything, but what happens when the core of the show is just awful? The acting is terrible and the writing is an amateurish slog of people telling their feelings to each other. Everyone’s charisma and charm from the original is for the most part gone and now we have these serious deadpanned characters that just can’t stick the landing when it comes to their performances. (with a few exceptions here and there)
      It doesn’t just fail as an adaptation, it fails as a piece of cinema as a whole.

Sure it only got only eight episode but if you slice each in 20 min, you got at least 16 episode in it. That almost 20 episode of the original show. If every live action adaptation of an animated series was just like the original, it will be considered lazy, lacklustre , and not creative for not trying to change out a little bit from the original

    • @TheMontyVerse
      @TheMontyVerse  Před 6 měsíci

      I agree, but also if an adaptation makes changes just for the sake of making changes then that is just as bad. I had to watch the episode again just to notice that they changed Oma and Shu to both be female in this version and I think that is super interesting and a welcome change. The problem is that they rushed through the story so fast I couldn't register it and neither will most people. See superficial changes are just that: Superficial and I would have loved for the series to expand upon the changes they made instead of trying to do too much to service fans of the series. Look at the One Piece Live Action Adaptation: we LOVED it and have nothing but praise for it because they made lots of changes but it was well written and felt true to the spirit of One Piece.
