    As has already been pointed out, Jhoom actually means To Sway when used literally, it could be because of intoxication, or extreme pleasure or contentment. The word Jhoom takes on a much deeper meaning when used in poetry, especially with reference to the context. They've translated it well, in my opinion. A dumber way of translating Tu Jhoom would be ' go ahead and sway in elation' but I like their translation better, as it is closer to what the poet is saying. Still, there's so much lost in translation! Urdu and Punjabi, dare I say so, are Arabic's little sisters, and just as with Arabic, it is impossible to translate these languages properly in English. English is more a business man's or a scientist's language in my humble opinion it is to the point, dealing with facts. Whereas Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Punjabi etc deal very beautifully with emotions. A single word or phrase in these languages (especially when used in poetry) could require a whole paragraph written in english as an explanation.

    • @f1aziz
      @f1aziz Před měsícem +1

      Yeah, I could come up with roughly 5 English words to describe Jhoom, and none of them describe what it means justifiably. But then, describing an emotional state is never easy in any language.

      All things fine except your proposition of "Urdu and Punjabi, dare I say so, are Arabic's little sisters".. Urdu & Punjabi are from a completely different language family, they're more like daughters of Sanskrit or Indian Apabhramsa languages, follow same grammar & structure. Though I agree that whether Arabic or persian, hindi, urdu, punjabi; they're highly poetic, unlike english

    • @AhmedFrazKhan
      @AhmedFrazKhan Před 22 dny

      @@krishnasakha6550 Howdy!! I'd been waiting for someone to point that out, hehe... and I do agree with you, to some extent, which is why I'd 'cautiously' used the term sisters instead of daughters. As you probably know, Urdu is an amalgam of many different languages like Turkish, Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit and many others. While Punjabi, as you say, is an altogether different language with its roots in Sanskrit. Thing is, here in Pakistan, we are quite heavily influenced by Arabic (because of the Holy Quran), admiring the amazing depth, structure and perfection of the language, so much so that our way of thnking as well as our speech and vocabulary take on some of its personality. Atleast to me, a lot of our prose and poetry, whether in Urdu or in Punjabi, always seems to be 'Arabic' colored, if you know what I mean. Its the same with me too, whenever in need of 'saying something beautifully' I always think of the perfection of the language of the Quran and try to follow the same formula whether in Urdu or in Punjabi. Another major reason for this is that millions of Indians and Paksitanis work in the Gulf and are bound to bring back vocabulary and nuances from the language spoken there, namely Arabic. Anyways, I say all of this without any authority of course, these are just my opinions and my well be wrong. And in no way do I intend to imply that other languages might be inferior. Love and respect to all languages! And thank you for pointing out what you did, it feels good to have a meaningful discussion on the internet once in a while! Lot's a luv from Paksitan!!

    Greetings from Pakistan. Well that was amazing. Fantastic song and brilliant reactions. Abida Parveen is known as the Queen of Sufi music here in Pakistan. She sings spiritual songs only. So, I definitely agree when you say that it seems Sufism. In my opinion it was one of the best if not the best song of Coke studio season 14. It touches one deep down. With wonderful reactions from yourselves, the song touched me much more. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece. Best wishes for the channel. With warm personal regards

    “Jhoom” literally means “ to sway”. But here it means to dance but not dancing as in a disco but going into a trance you just sway. At A higher level. Too jhoom would be telling someone to just sway. Don’t worry running after material things because what’s destined for you will get to you one way or another. So since it’s not in your control why worry. Just embrace yourself and get yourself in a mystical extract to sway and be content.

    Whats the best way to describe the literal meaning of tu jhoom with no context. Basically when you take your finger and you just sway it round and round. Do the same thing with your body whilst listening to something that sounds soulful and sacred (like this song) when you feel your body just lost and your head/body is just swaying round and round with your eyes closed. Thats what jhoom(ing) is literally. That's what i imagine when i think of it in this context. When you're swaying and you're just in your own world, in a trance.

Like when you saw your new born baby first time, you saw your first love first time, like you stood up in front of hundreds of people to sing or make a speech first time or faced a lion alone in the jungle first time or you nearly drowned first time. In all those situations you discovered another of your self. That is “tu jhoom”.

    .new subscriber here who thoroughly enjoyed your insights and comments .... found myself here after I saw ur reaction to Bol Hu and an interesting fact is that this song was actually written by Adnan who happens to be the lead singer of "Soch the band" from Bol hu and if u actually pay attention this almost seems like an extension of that song ..... lot of his philosophies actually are entrenched in sufi tradition and ideas which was pretty interesting that u picked up on .... Bravo!!! of course Abida Parveen is the Queen of Sufism and when Adnan wrote this song, him and Xulfi could not fathom anyone else doing the vocals and the rest is just magic ....... also interesting fact that Xulfi the producer for season 14 & 15 of coke studios actually came from producing nescafe basement and brought along various talent that appeared for years on Nescafe Basement ..... keep rocking u2 and if u want to experience Abida Parveen and Sufi music at it's best, check out Chap Tilak, Coke Studios

    Hello Habibies. Great reaction like always.
    The English translation is not a word by word translation. It is provided to give a general idea about actual lyrics for global audience. Actual wording is much more deeper.
    Also fun fact, you know both female leads are sitting on their own platforms but Naseebo Laal requested her platform to be lower than Abida Perveen because out of utmost respect, Naseebo as a much younger singer (as compared to Abida) does not consider herself worthy enough to sit at same level as Abida. The concept of “jhoom” is very similar to to “whirling dervesh” where the dance is more than just a spectacle, as it's imbued with Islamic symbolism and spirituality. The dervishes' movements represent the soul's journey toward truth and union with God, and each rotation symbolizes the inner search for spiritual enlightenment. Jhoom is the same concept just different word and different part of word so dancing style is a little different. Instead of rotating they just sway. And the literal meaning of jhoom is to sway or to dance it dance

    Just imagine y, this was the first song of season 14, you guys know that till season 13 it was a different studio based setup, so it shocked everyone, plus it was just early days after covid and the mindset we all had fit perfectly in this song, stop worrying about all the big and small things, just remind yourself that nothing is under your control, dont worry if you dont get everything you wish for, as, if all our wishes came true then there will be nothing left in this world to live for, so stop worrying and jhoom, which means to sway with total joy and completely carefree, like you were in a trance. Just make the rhythm of your swaying in peace and sync with the will of God.
