    If don't have it already, seeing the basics turns (spins) in the East Coast Swing would be nice to see

    How is this different from a syncopated hustle? Seems like the "1 2 rockstep" for single time swing is just a transposed "2 3 &1" of the hustle? Thanks for the great instructional videos!

    • @BallroomFeed
      @BallroomFeed  Před 2 lety

      That's a great question! The timing is different in both styles and will work with different styles of music.
      Syncopated hustle timing is "(&1 rock step) (2 step) (3 step)" - the rock step takes 1 full beat including (&1), and each step takes 1 beat
      Single time swing timing with counts is "(1, 2 step) (3, 4 step) (5, 6 rock step)" - each step takes 2 beats, and the rock step takes 2 beats
      The rock step and steps in hustle are twice as fast as the rock step and steps in single time swing.
      The foot directions are also different. In single time swing each step is underneath your shoulders in a second position like 2 side steps staying where you are and the rock steps should be at a slight angel away from your partner. In the hustle the rock step is directly away from your partner and each step is in a first position (feet together) as opposed to in an open second position. In hustle you could also rock forward instead of 2 feet in place.
      Hopefully this makes sense and helps you understand the differences!

      @@BallroomFeed Thanks for a very thorough response! It seems we've been counting the hustle in half time, such that is takes 6 counts and matches up timing-wise to the swing dance...except our footwork is definitely rotating hustle, as you explained in great detail with your notes on foot placement. Coming from a country two step background, which we do QQSS over 6 counts, it was very seamless to adapt that to swing timing with the QQ on the 5,6 rockstep and then we just did the hustle footwork on that timing instead. So functionally, we're doing a 1,2,3& Hustle but it seems to work with the music and we like the rotating slot movement of the Hustle over the swaying rotation of the single time swing dance.
      Very fascinating how these dances share lots of similarities and hopefully that means the turns/moves we learn in one can be portable to a different style of dance...at least that's how we've been incorporating your excellent hustle instructions in country dance when we open break. Thanks again for the clarification

      @@Name-so9ns Ahhh I see! Of course you can dance it in half time as well, to different music as you discovered :)
      Yes that's one of the best parts! Once you learn basic elements a lot of them will transfer between different dances of a similar style! Enjoy and thanks for watching! :)

    How is this different from the jitterbug? Is it the same dance but just with a different name?

    • @BallroomFeed
      @BallroomFeed  Před 8 měsíci

      "Jitterbug" is a term I'm familiar with as describing classic swing dancing or more similar to the Lindy hop. This is a much easier style of swing, derived from the East Coast Swing (new age swing). They are both swing dances however!

    Thank you for this! One suggestion is to say followers instead of ladies. I only say this because I’m in a lesbian relationship and I’m the leader 😂
    Getting my fiancée into swing and had to learn the lead and this helps a lot! Used to dance so I knew the followers steps

      Hi Krystal! Sorry about that, we really do try our best to stick with "leader/follower" but we're not perfect so we forget sometimes :/ Thanks so much for watching, happy we can help!
