- Hi! Have you ever wondered exactly how powerful a certain character is, such as Superman or Thor? It can be difficult to find this out, especially with comic characters, as they can have different writers and different appearances across different continuities.
Here in RESPECT, we analyze all the appearances of the character and list some of their major feats and accomplishments in order to help you understand just how powerful they really are.
Today we do one of the more controversial heroes when it comes to power levels, Superman! Though not infinitely strong, he's certainly no pushover. Thanks for watching and let me know what other kinds of characters you'd like to see!

If I’m correct Superman is a alien not a god that alone makes it ridiculous Superman can even battle gods. Dc loves to keep making Superman more powerful though even though that’s not how he started out.
Superman deserves respect not because of his power but his inherent goodness. He could rule the planet as its immortal god king if he had a mind to but instead he chooses to spend his time pulling scared kittens out of trees and talking down suicidal young girls from jumping off a roof. Superman always strives to help everyone no matter if they’re royalty or if they’re a random stranger because at his core he thinks that even the smallest kindness today can help create a better tomorrow.
Superman is a God trying to live as a Human Being.
You could say the same about Martian Manhunter if he was written right and not constantly nerfed.
So many people don't understand the fact that if Superman used all his power every time he fought , the comic book would be really short every week .

True. I even suspect that he still has undiscovered power, being the last son of krypton, and having the codex in him, I think he still has secrets that have to be discovered.
Bare in mind that Superman was the very first who kicked off the so called "superhero" genre meaning without the characters creation we would probably not have any heroic as well as villainous characters. So, love him or hate him at least show the respect he truly deserves! Superman, you have my love and respect forever.

Yea we’d still have superheroes either way. Merlin and King Arthur were the real first superheroes not part of a religion. If we count religious heroes, it’s arguably Gilgamesh since he is portrayed as a protagonist but is later considered to be an antagonist during more modern times.

Was just watching Superman Man of Tomorrow. Had Omniman or Homelander been in that same situation or even Goku or One Punchman they would have sent the guy to space or found some way kill him. Superman on the otherhand was dealing with the people of the world and their fear. He fought to redeem Mr. Jones and succeeded. He's not just a being who uses his fists and is much deeper than that. No matter the circumstance Superman will always give someone a chance at redemption.

Sorry to tell you this, but he's not that durable or that stronge. The so-called "macroverse"-shaking shockwaves were a result of their god ki improperly clashing against each other, plus said shockwaves didn't work like actual shockwaves as they were the weakest at their epicenter, which is why Earth and the Solar System were completely unharmed despite being the closest them. However, if they actually went through and ended up destroying the "macroverse", they both would have perished from those same shockwaves as Elder Kai pointed out :p

So if you can take Goku being scratched by a bullet out of context, can I take Jimmy Olsen killing Superman in one punch out of context? Or when Superman couldn't even catch bullets? Or when Muhammad Ali beat him up? Or when a moon level attack he himself threw knocked him out, Saiyan saga Piccolo solos, question mark? Or when Lex said ki could kill Superman and built a tower to gather the world's supply of ki? Can I just not use the context for any of those since you don't need context for Goku's lowest levels?
I find it funny you analyse Goku throwing macroverse level punches to try to disprove it but don't analyse Goku being hurt by a laser and state specifically why it happened.
The macroverse level punches were macroverse level. Everyone in the show stated it and denying it is going against author intent. The punches were macroverse level as all official sources verify. Low balling is one thing, outright lying about facts the writers stated is shady.
By vaguely defined you mean metaphysical energy. DB is about more spiritual energies than DC, or at least Superman. Or do we say that because Magic is vague, no magic being can be powerful. Are you going to deny that Gamera is building level because mana is vague? That's just a desperate ass-pull.
Goku didn't just exist outside a universe, he existed when time itself did not. At minimum it disproves not being able to breathe in space (Toriyama also later said they could when people kept pointing it out) but it is also a fourth dimensional survival feat.
The way I see it superman is as strong as he NEEDS to be,not as strong as he wants to be,so he could lift an infinite amount of weight if he absolutely needs to,but not whenever he wants to.

The book of infinity contains the events that take place in the dcu to a specific point of time which means it will always be finite. But it will keep adding new stories and stuff later on which makes it infinite and hence it's name book of infinity.

Writers who use Superman right: Grant Morrison, Dan Jurgens, Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, Geoff Johns, Greg Pak, among others. This people prove that a supremely powerful hero can still have interesting stories.

I am a bit late on this, however I couldn't resist. Thank you for the great content of this video and the proof provided in your argument and the non biased approach. I agree with you on all facts stated, but I do believe his biggest downfall or strength depending on how you look at it, is not krytonite, magic or a more powerful opponent, it is in fact his character or moral compass. If he did not have the character he constantly displays then he would be ruthless and a law unto himself, which would make him evil. I love this video man, superman getting the recognition he deserves. Call me biased but superman only loses fights due to holding back. It’s a matter of mindset when it comes to superman’s fights. He’s an OP character who in hindsight shouldn’t lose but it’s his mindset that is the centre of most of his stories as well as who is as a person. This is in turn determines whether he would win or lose a fight.

I don’t know what happened to the world now, they constantly tries to kill Superman in any argument. I’ve seen people literally hating Superman. They’re always like “oh this can kill Superman, that can kill Superman”. There was a time when the world used to cherish Superman. I believe all this started after Batman vs Superman, the movie was amazing, but majority of the people picked up the toxic trait about Batman almost defeating Superman. They missed out the part where the movie shows us how, even after being almost manipulated by Lex Luthor, Superman managed to win against him and his Doomsday plan. They ignore Superman’s goodness from that movie, like how he fought against his own race just for them but they treated him very badly. Even tho Batman was trying to kill him he never did anything to actually hurt/kill Batman and he went to him just to talk.

Well my problem is when he said superman dont have limitless powers because he got beat. I think its important to adress whos beating him and what allows it. But let's use common sense a lot of elements is at play here because comic writers often weaken superman to tell story's. Or because people complain and whine about him being op when in fact all comic characters are op. Superman has shown to be really powerful especially when he sun dips or fly around the sun. One of the main things about debates are when ppl complain about a character they don't even read the comic book to have a clear picture of power levels is really just about their favorite character wining.

The reason why Superman can still lose with limitless potential is that he holds back. He could theoretically stay inside of a sun until it burns out and then move to a new one, maybe get help from another being with the potential to extend the universe and his lifespan, to get infinite energy/strength.
Although he does have a infinite potential to get ever more powerful than what he already is.... It would be technically impossible for him to get infinitely powerful. Since that would require him to get an infinite amount of solar exposure, when no star ever lives that long (not to mention that he always consumes his powers upon use).

The DCEU, thus far, chronicled Superman's beginnings and typically in comics that do the same, that's how it is for him. People are afraid of what he is and what he can do until he proves himself and afterwards, storylines focusing on the man instead of the Super followed. Also, I don't really know if we watched the same films, as I've seen a lot of focus on his person. He was bullied as a child, he loves his parents, he worked many different jobs before becoming a reporter, and we've even seen something small like him coming home with groceries. Also, we know he likes science (won a science fair as a child), complex literature (read "The Republic of Plato"), Budweiser, football games (we see him do both before Zod's "You are Not alone broadcast"), and cooking (said to Lois he wanted to cook for her in BVS and we actually see him cook in the film).
And society's view of him is actually a focal point of BVS, but just as well, it focuses on how that impacts him and his confidence in himself as Superman.
I would be interesting to see just how powerful the children of superman and Wonder Woman would be.

Yes the fact is that he has shown to have limitless feats just because he does not win every battle does not give someone the right to take away something that is and is proven canon still to Pre flashpoint Superman. Flat out it makes you bias. Just speak the facts and leave your thoughts to yourself. You really sounds salty he has the feat's nothing more other than that the video is spot on.
I didn't count those feats for multiple reasons, but I first want to say that the infinite feats are both pretty cool to me! The book of infinite pages was an awesome portion of Superman: Beyond and I love that story, and being a huge Spectre fan made me excited that his body is made up of eternity! That being said, I don't think those feats actually matter for Superman for multiple reasons.
First reason is that not all feats are valid. Sometimes the writer has absolutely no idea of what they are writing about and put something in that blatantly disregards the character's pre-established power or abilities. The infinite feats would fall under the "outlier" category, meaning that the feat is either WAY above or WAY below what has already been well established for that character. If there was a feat of Superman surviving a grenade to the face with some difficulty, I would treat it the same way because thats clearly below what Superman has been shown to survive. If we were to treat the infinite feats as real feats, they would be outliers because Superman has never shown infinite strength otherwise.
Second reason is that Superman clearly doesn't have infinite strength outside of those two comics. There have been MANY comics where Superman has shown to be physically weaker than somebody else. For example, his fight against the Kryptonian Goddess Cythonna in which she completely physically dominates him. Another example would be him failing to stop Hercules in a fight, but Kingdom Come Superman easily showing he is stronger by destroying Hercules. There have been too many examples of Superman not having infinite strength for it to make sense that he does.
Third reason is the feats themselves aren't completely valid infinite feats. The book of infinite pages took considerable effort on both his and Captain Marvel's to lift it, but that doesn't make sense. If you can lift roughly half of infinity then you can lift full infinity. And if you have infinite strength, it doesn't take effort to lift infinity. The second feat with The Spectre, Superman and WW couldn't lift The Spectre for very long, which also doesn't make sense. You can either lift an infinite amount of weight or you can't.
That's basically the full gist of it! I didn't want to include feats that I cannot support factually.
I see why you would have those reasons for 1 and 3 the stories are a big plot device but the feats show that if he really wanted to do something he can do it In the comics Superman is a pawn to the writer he is for story only and will win the day in the end.
I also want to add this fact another feat on his limitless strength a feat on the source wall is a great test of limitless strength. Him pulling out High father's staff this feat can not be debated on, the author/DC is writing this statement.
i just want to add Superman would need some sort of map or chart in order to navigate - this has even been addressed in DC Comics before, such as when Superman had flew to the end of the Universe to the Source Wall

Superman is the guy who is capable of development into actuality of being limitless. He does have limitless input/output on how much solar energy he can take in or out.
Also you left out the skill were he has used String theory and killed someone like he did in Final Crisis like darkside. Something he can just do if he really wanted to. Meaning he is a writer's wet dream and they can do anything with him like show 2 or 3 infinite feats because he has more than just 2 like shattering space and time witch are both infinite.
The Comic outright has the Spectre inner monologue references them as successfully holding up his weight. Even saying that it had been only "Nearly" too much for them. Regardless of duration, they did seem to at least slow his fall. Using weightlifting terms for examples.

Superman lifting infinity, an author claimed superman is limitless. Superman's strength is limitless and so is the hulk. Yet they still lose at times because they aren't invincible. But best believe when they put their mind to it, they can achieve any feat.

Technically speaking, if we assumed his strength can only briefly reach these levels, wouldn't that make sense he couldn't do it for long based off how much of his solar reserves he'd be burning through and what level of solar charge he actually had when performing said feats? No matter how powerful he is, he has a limited store of solar energy and they drop based off what powers he uses and to what intensity he performs.
I think it'd be similar to a weight lifter maxing out for a short period of time and dropping it because of his muscles fatiguing and no longer being able to maintain the effort (for Superman, this threshold is immeasurably higher, but still there).
Ultraman is physically equal to Superman, and he was able to lift the book himself (I don't remember any amp on his end, but I'd have to look back at the story), so superman might not have been at full power when attempting the feat (like when he helped drag the earth back into place after coming back to life).
Logically speaking, they don't make sense either way you look at it, like the entire thing about being able to lift half of infinity or infinity (though, mathematically speaking, there are varying sizes of infinity, and even varying levels of infinity with some of the more powerful beings in DC and/or Marvel).
Or, we just go with the simpler explanation for some of these feats and their logic or lack thereof: comics. :D

They were forced back by the book's MAGIC, because the book didn't want them to keep holding it anymore (Remember when Superman said that the book was sentient and had intelligence), but they were still bearing the book's mass/weight and gravity before hand. We have not seen a similar effect when Supes or Cap Marvel touched any other object with mass in Limbo, nor does failing to bear mass blast a person back like that, so it is obviously a magical blast that forced them back.

With all this said, its frustrating how he is always grimacing when he does relatively minor things.Also while he is a great leader, he is always portrayed as only having average intelligence in my opinion - solving issues more often with brawn rather than brains.
