  • Sherkston quarry was a limestone quarry. The quarry ceased operation around 1917 and filled with water. The railway that serviced the quarry remained relatively intact, including two steam locomotives that have now been under water for over 100 years.
The area around the quarry became a campground. We stayed here in August 2023. I attached a rope to my Gopro and dragged it along with my kayak. There was no way to see the locomotives from above so all of this footage was just guess work. Visibility in the quarry is short during the summer months so clear views of the locomotives are not possible. I am hopeful to return in a few years at a time when visibility is better.
I have now video recorded steam locomotives that I have never seen!
