  • This week our guest is Jo Zayner, who just might be the most prominent and controversial biohacker out there right now. He’s done numerous experiments that have drawn both positive and negative attention, such as transplanting the microbiome of another person into his body, attempting to genetically alter the color of his skin, and injecting CRISPR modifications into his body to enhance his muscles.
As radical as these things may sound, he does have a PhD in biosphysics and previously worked for NASA genetically modifying organisms for mars, so he’s not exactly an amateur.
In this episode we explore Josiah’s journey from traditional scientist to biohacker, and along the way discuss the possibilities of gene editing, the dangers, and how we should regulate and navigate this future inevitability.

This person should be allowed to be his own personal lab rat to his hearts content.

I just had my both kidneys removed at 42 due to a genetic disease. My son has 50% chance of having PKD too. Genetic therapies need to be expedited….

@19:35 I will submit that every component of a human being as well as the majority of animals have a finite number of any cell. The part of facial hair that grew before the extreme edges lower neck will turn gray later than the longest growing. Skin exposed to the sun will age long before unexposed.
The immune system capacity for production is very limited. Any physical activities reduce function. Keeping the body warm in cold takes away from immune cell production. Staying awake takes away from immune cell production. That is why you had to stay warm in bed before the advent of antibiotics or you died.
Here's the rub, a spike protein constantly taxing the immune system is not any different than AIDS. There's no way to stop it from constantly calling for immune response. Being taxed constantly lessens the immediate ability to fight other pathogens. Perhaps after 5-7 years leaves you with no immune system. Initial observations are heading that way. Anecdotal on the scale of a billion is very accurate evidence.

Why? Why shouldn't people be able to decide what to do with their own bodies?

Until you get a disease that can be cured by gene editing therapy…..
