Just say jury nullification. That acknowledges that a law or laws could have been violated but the defendant shouldn't receive any penalty because the law isn't fair, impartial, or beneficial to society.

The coverage of this case by the media is reprehensible. I don't know how New York selects juries but every time I have done jury duty , they don't sit there and agree on each juror . At some point the attorneys accept the jury as constituted. Until then a juror that was never excluded could get removed by one of the attorneys. It's ridiculous.

I thought jury trials had 12 jurors
They always have extra alternates in case something happens to some of them. This way they don't have to do the entire trial over again if they lose someone. When the trial is done being presented and the deliberation process is ready to start, the alternates are excused unless replacements are needed. (Just like how actors in plays have understudies)
