You forgot to lube the center bushing. That thin plastic piece that inserts into the plastic pulley. With that dry it will cause the recoil to return slower and or stick slightly.

Adding lube may help but he forgot the washer that goes under the top metal plate.

I followed u to a T but for some reason my dog leg won’t poke out to engage flywheel. I put the clip on the friction cup same way and still won’t poke out. Is there something else that could cause that to not want to come out?

I am having the same problem. I turned the pully 6 times and made sure the dog was on its own little spring but can't figure out where the clip on the friction cup is supposed to be. I tried several possible ways, but none engaged the dog.

@@greenhillgarage The clip is suppose to be parallel to the dog with the open end on the side of the dog that pushes out. I have mine like that just like the video and it does nothing. I’ve tried other positions just to see if it work and none have. I’m wondering if the clip is suppose to let the shaft it sits rotate with the friction cup without it moving as I think that’s what mine is doing so there’s nothing to make the clip move to hit the dog out. If so what a dumb design as there should be a bracket on the friction cup to make the clip spin which there isn’t. The crazy thing is I also have a recoil off of a Yamaha tri moto 200 from the 80s that’s doing the same thing and is designed same way. Between the 2 I’m ready to tear my hair out. I’m a seasoned mechanic and have done some very complicated jobs and this has got me stumped and feelin stupid. All I know is either I got a bad machined replacement kit or that clip needs tack welded or something and nobody is sayin that cause that’s only thing I can figure that’s keeping that dog from springing out.

@@greenhillgarage If you end up figuring out what it is before I do please let me know what you figured out. I’ve had to walk away from mine for a moment as it’s got me so irratated

@@bangs2ndshotgarage865 I know the feeling. I just finished online school and I am going to try to make it work. My recoil starter worked fine until the rope snapped. But once I took it apart and put it back together, it won't engage anymore. As far as I can tell the clip needs to remain in place while the pully spins, but it seems to spin with the pully. 😵‍💫😠😡

Hey. Does the oil need to be drained before pulling the cover off?

Will the pull crank being out seize the starter?

The electric starter will not work without the pull start housing installed.
