- Very few franchises have had the kind of impact on the industry that Gears of War did when Epic Games and Microsoft first launched it back in 2006, so it's not hard to understand why the third person shooter series has been as valuable for Microsoft as something like Halo or Forza since its inception.
Sure, it's had its ups and downs, and yes, many might say that it has lost its prestige over time, and that it isn't on the same level anymore under The Coalition's guidance as it used to be under Epic Games- but even when it's flying relatively low, Gears is still worth paying attention to. Here, we're going to rank all mainline Gears of War games from worst to best- though really, a more appropriate way of ranking them would be from solid to spectacular. - Hry

Gears 2 had by far the best campaign IMO. But Gears 3 is probably the best overall game.

I believe that Gears 1 had the best campaign. Personally it was a simple story told to perfection at that time. It was in the vein of the original Predator movie in my opinion. They would touch on topics in a subtle way that later evolved through the series. And it also had light horror tone also. If I rank them taking multiplayer in to account. I give it to Gears 2
I liked 3 story best honestly but I feel gears 1 belinged higher and gears 5 belongs lower with gears tactics lower too myself as a single player story gamer i disagree with the list order respectfully I can see where the multiplayer experiences may have a different order than we single player only gamers would though.
Agree 100% gears 1 is my favorite and gears 2 for the online multiplayer.
I find it interesting how a lot of people that tell me Gears of War 4 is boring for being simple, when Gears of War 1 was simple enough to attract so many people, idk, it feels pretty unfair

Just played through the whole series after getting my Series S and it is overall a pretty fantastic series. The first 3 are definitely the best but 4 and 5 ain't too bad really.
Technically gears 5 is the best but didnt have the same impact as the first 3 imo.

I'm doing that rn with gamepass. I'm almost done the first game. Pretty stellar action game. Combat holds up well and you can see how influential it was

3 is the best while 2 is amazing 3 is just spectacular the campaign is so damn good. Horde most is the best in the trilogy and multiplayer while it lacks beast mode is just the most refined in the trilogy unless you count the remastered original then that one is probably the best but no one plays that online these days
@@cozzy4447 I played co-op with my son, we absolutely loved it. He was Marcus I was Dom, we loved our characters! Then Dom gets killed off (too early) and I play as Jace or some other random character that means nothing to me! That's why 3 isn't as good as 2, I don't care about the new characters that they introduce for diversity reasons! They have no soul, Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird was where it was best!
Great video. Microsoft need to release a Marcus Fenix Collection, remastering the remaining titles, and giving Gears the Halo MCC treatment...

My fave nowadays is Ultimate. It's Gears 1, just better, and looking gorgeous. The og experience is there. That's what comes to my mind when thinking Gears: the first game. Horror and action. A hopeless war. A destroyed planet. A dying species. Perfect!
I'm happy someone finally gave appreciation to all games while still admitting its flaws, and I ABSOLUTELY AGREE, Gears of War 3 is the fun, entertaining, captivating, and iconic at this point.
Love the original trilogy, even read some of the books because I loved the series so much. Can’t get into 4 or 5 that much, still ok though. Also, I’d go for a game set in the Pendulum Wars right now. Seeing the COG’s military in it’s prime would be pretty cool.

I was thinking the game thing about a Pendulum Wars era Gears game. Only problem is that there is no Mk.2 Lancer with the chainsaw bayonet which really isn't a big deal.

Gears 2 and 3 are my favorite. It’s funny though, when gears of war 2 came out I still preferred playing gears 1. But now over time I’ll still go back to play 2 or 3. Still think gears 1 has the best campaign.

I love the gear of war Franchise growing up it’s really awesome and tons of fun
I just recently played gears 5, and own all the rest, going off what everyone said I figured it would just be meh, but I jumped in cause of the hive busters dlc, that shit is awesome, then I tried the campaigner and to me jack and the refinement and polishing of the core loop, I absolutely love it man I had a blast, I only got 3 parts in but I loved every second and that hasn’t happened since doom eternal. Good stuff.

Unfortunately not likely to happen, Gears has no presence within the Nintendo space and there isn't much desire for him in the game. When it comes to potential Xbox representation, Master Chief would honestly be the more likely choice.
2 and 3 are my favorite, odd coincidence is that 2 and 3 are also my favorite halo games lol

Gears is in the same spot as halo. The original studio is gone...and the series was never the same no matter how much people try to convince themselves. I still like it...but it’s not the same.

Just completed 1-3 and Judgment and only had my Series X since last Wednesday … and the DLC for 2 & Judgement, DLC for 3 is getting started tomorrow, I really am addicted to these 😅 great games.

I haven't spent nearly as much time on Xbox consoles the past 7 years due to the lack of exclusive content but man, I always pick up a new Gears game when it comes out. Of the later games, I thought GoW 4 was very good and GoW 5 was tremendous. Loved the Hivebusters DLC and I'm hoping we'll get another new episode soon. Cannot wait to see what Coalition is able to do with GoW 6 on the Series X. EDIT: I for one really liked Judgement. Baird is a great character and yeah, it's not great but I enjoyed it.
Gears of war is one of a kind game series. Some people think gameplay is too restrictive. It depends on taste of a person

Played first gears of war in march. And now I’ve played every game except judgement. It’s one of my favorite game series, excellent combat, characters, villains,bosses. If u haven’t played gears what r u doin
1 and 2 are better for its campaigns and multiplayer maps are better. 3 and 5 have better gameplay and beast mode . Beast mode 2.0 now please . Beast mode and horde are still better modes then anything else the coalition has tried to bring forward
5 just has all the bells and whistles what comes along with better hardware really

Gears 1 had the best first levels of any game I've ever had. It really feels like your on patrol during a desperate dangerous war. Gears 2 had a great opening hour too

GoW Judgment: Serviceable to players who may have wanted more GoW, Doesn't do anything new but the gameplay isn't bad, While simple it has a Decent Story.
GoW Tactics: Very decent XCOM copy cat, Good environments, Decent Story, Great gameplay, I have no complaints.
GoW 1: 1st introduction & a great one at that, Good simple story, Great iconic character's, Gritty & great gameplay, The Lancer made iconic by this game.
GoW 2: Greatly Improved on the 1st game with a better story & even greater character's, good multiplayer experience & just feels good.
GoW 3: Vastly Improved upon the multiplayer, Gameplay was also slightly better than the 2nd with new fun editions, Story was outstanding and a good tie off to the trilogy, So many great moments & character's, They Didn't Kill a Carmine for once!
GoW 4: Haven't played it yet but people seem mixed on it so I have my reservation's.

I'd swap places with 4 and Judgement. I actually didn't really care for Gears 4. The new characters were annoying and I was bored. I got to the last chapter and simply put it down; I at least bothered for finish Judgement.

I've always preferred the Gears of War franchise to Halo. More personality in the characters, more realistic, and more of a gritty atmosphere...
Gears of War 4 is far better than GoW 5, not that is saying much, The Coalition and 343i are franchise killers.

Been playing gears since I can remember. In my opinion, not a bad list. However I have to say that'd I'd place gears 5 almost in last, probably next to judgment. I'm just really not a fan of them straying away from the Fenix bloodline and making KAIT the main character. I feel like all she ever does is complain, and I find her incredibly annoying. Plus that "pick who dies" part at the end... WHAT a desperate attempt to make your game "emotional." When it comes to the multiplayer, I really don't like how absolutely easy it has become, I feel like all the skill has been taken out of it... Also gaming bolt forgot Gears UE, I know it's a remake of gears one but they added so much content and fine tuning into multiplayer that I feel like it deserves a spot high on the list.
I respectfully disagree, but I see where you are coming from. The pick who dies thing is probably there to set up what will happen in Gears 6, and how it impacts your relationship with Marcus. I enjoyed Kait's story immensely, and it gives a lot of details about the Locust we thought we would never know, which is also really cool. Tying in Gears Tactics was a nice touch as well (or more accurately, Gears Tactics tied into it.)
@@TechHighCurran I haven't finished Gears Tactics yet so maybe that will change my mind a little about gears 5. Also, TC already stated that Gears 6 will automatically go with Del being dead no matter what you picked. If they are going with that, what's the point of choosing? They could have given him a heroic death like Dom, I stead of just "oh you chose, he's dead now"
@@noizybear6335 I see your point there. I wish the choice mattered. I chose to kill Del, and maybe that was the concensus and that is what they are going with. You make a good point. When judging game quality, I avoid plot details as a determining factor, since I focus on the writing, acting, gameplay, innovation, etc. In that regard, I feel Gears 5 is near the top. Personal concerns regarding story telling (like my feelings about switching to Kait) is not something about the game, it is about me. That being said, I understand completely why you feel that way. I am surprised how much I agree with this list. I agree with the narrator, though. There has not been a bad gears game. Even Judgment was great, it just paled in comparison to the others in the franchise.
Gears Judgment and 4 and 5 wasn't solid. They was huge trash. Gears 1 and 2 are spectacular and 3 is solid.

I agree with the list. 3 and 5 have been the best so far for me. The original stands up well with its ultimate edition. Hell I still replay all the campaigns in order every now and again.

I just say the franchise is a masterpiece best multiplayer 3rd person shooter game of all time is the gearsofwar franchise.
Gears 1-3 amazing characters set pieces and better story.... 4-5 for a next gen jump barely any different or improvements but worse overall for story characters but smoother gameplay.

You're in for a treat then. GoW 3 is excellent, GoW 4 isn't an all time classic but it's very good and GoW 5 is excellent. Obviously, this is subjective and purely my opinion, but if you liked the first two games I'm confident you'll enjoy the 3 you haven't played yet.

As far as story goes, the first 3 games are definitely best. 4 and 5 have a different story, I didn't like it.
But the online multiplayer in all Gears games is good.

Gears 5 : you want to play as a bad as main character. No cant do. Atmosphere is trash. Rainbow strong colors. Open world feels dead. Bad combat pacing. Story sucked hard.
I could not even beat the game because it was so bad. I went back and tried the first gears of war and it ended with me playing all 3 in a row. And what a blast it was.
The only thing I would have made different with this list is between Tactics and 4. Other than that, it’s my list too. 3 is the goat but 5 is an amazing step forward. People hate on 5 way too hard. Just because Kate was the primary focus in 5 doesn’t mean the Fenix family isn’t the main storyline. Not one time playing Gears 5 did I feel like Marcus or JD were mistreated or did something out of character. The Coalition tried something different and that’s okay. However if Kate is still the main character in the next game I will be pissed. She served her purpose in Gears 5 for the sake of story. In Gears 6 let’s step back in JD’s shoes. I’m very optimistic for Gears 6. Hopefully we will get a trailer by 2022.

Yeah, I honestly might feel the same. GoW 5 had great visuals, a great story, some interesting new mechanics and the Hivebusters campaign was GREAT. Hard to compare the new games with the old games but GoW 5 might be my favorite too.
It goes 2 then 1 and the rest are irrelevant to me. I’ve tried 4 at a friends, didn’t like it. I’ve tried 5 on my pc, uninstalled it almost immediately. Never bothered with judgement, and sadly have never played 3.
god.....i really wish XBOX bring gears 2,3,judgement to pc....hopefully in UE5.
