Thank you from 1st time John Deere owner
Youâre welcome. Always glad to hear that the videos are helpful. Iâm sure youâll be enjoying your new John Deere.
I have used a beach grinder for years on my old poular mulching blades mower but now with my new JD im going to use a similar file like the one you showed, i believe it's better and doesn't take off as much steel.
Yeah, I would think that manually filing extends the life of the blades by removing only whatâs necessary each time. Youâd think that it would also help in keeping them better balanced.
However, not having used a grinder for sharpening, Iâm sure there are some that are very good at it and get it done fairly evenly with little waste. But, for only taking a few extra minutes, Iâll continue using the file.
Enjoy using your new JD!
@DIYBoomers thanks it's one of the best mowers I've ever had, I bought the S100 in July with the 17.5 Briggs & Stratton, 42 inch deck. I heard some people say that's overlooked on new engines, change the oil around 4 hours, to get the metal shavings out of the engine from the factory, so i did that the other day, the old oil coming out looked like metal flake you see in paint.
Interesting, hadnât heard that. I converted the easy oil change system to the conventional oil filter system early on but I didnât look for metal flake. Does the S100 have the easy oil change system?
@DIYBoomers My S100 has the small fiter, I think John Deere put that easy change filter on there so people would change their oil but the filter cost $55 and I just wonder how many are filling up landfills, that easy change filter only comes with 8oz of oil. I can't believe John Deere came up with that idea.
I heard from alot of people that work with small engines about the metal shavings, so I when ahead and change my oil after 4 hours to be safe.
No, the easy oil change system really has me scratching my head.
