- In the second episode of Like Art, Creators spends the day with Daniel Arnold, a photographer who has gained rapid success on social media for his spontaneous, candid portraits of every day city life. Exploring New York and its iconic locations via subway and on foot, Daniel has developed a unique perspective, capturing unsuspecting subjects photographed in a fleeting moment that reveals their awkward, authentic, and beautiful humanity. In the heart of Times Square, Daniel sets out to teach host Oz Woloshyn how to find the uncommon shot with a disposable camera, and shares his philosophy on life and art.

one of my favourite photographers right now.
love how he depicts NY, there is something honest & raw about his pictures
ACID SNOW I agree
A refreshing break from the usual instagram photographer
Jake but he’s an Instagram photographer.. complaining or not, he’s there... and posts quite a bit.
That's great using a disposable camera and just taking pictures of people. Don't need to focus or work out the aperture. LoL and he is very successful, good for him.
this is exactly what i need to see today, been way overthinking my work lately.
Bobby Robertson There overthinking, and then theres not thinking at all... His work is garbage. Just random snaps of nothing.
Danny Seaton Agreed.
crazy how much of a following he's gained since this video! and his vogue + nytimes work which is at once perfectly tailored but still totally his style
"I dont I have to take a great picture everytime. I want to have the experience of having a great day." ✨
People in the comments commenting like it's some brand new phenomenon they have never seen before. Jesus fucking christ.
"it's all an unbelievable sci-fi, brain explosion, and I try not to miss it" lav it
Daniel came into my job when I was living in New York. I wanted to say I was a fan of his work, but I was too shy. Cool to have met him briefly.
That picture at 0:54 is my favourite of what I've seen from Daniel Arnolds work. Its beautiful but not traditionally pretty.
I need more of him!
This only really captures those who are open minded and artsy
Love thissss.
Wow dude .. these pics are insane, hope he doesn't get arrested.
Only way to get arrested is if you're caught. NYers are too street smart
Only way to get arrested is do something illegal, which this is not.
I think I read somewhere that he was arrested at least once? Not entirely sure.
for what ?
man fuck germany, street photography is practically illegal here
1:10 That odd Jocker got pissed off but what a great picture came up! wow!
I give the exact same response for why I shoot randomly without permission
Daniel...... been following you for awhile love your art.
Great episode!
inspiring
He inspires me
i love how he just pulls the camera out of the wrapper like its a sandwich
Love It
so dope
He def needs google glass.
yo can someone tell me what track they used at the end?? thanks
I have a photo of that guy @1:22. Threatened me after I took it. Worth it though.
Damn that photo at 1:12 is actually really good
He reminds me of Rat Billings in Adult World. And John Cusak could play this guy also.
It's a point n shoot hope for the best ....
whats that song piano?
does anyone know the brand of his tshirt?
Walks around face painted like the joker, clearly trying to stand out and gets pissed when someone notices him lol 😂
Nah those costume ppl want money for photos
He's fckng genius!
what camera does he shot on?
cool dude.
I just want to know what the background music for 1:55 is. :(
Is there other ways to get your art out there without Instagram
Interesting to think about how artists nowadays can 'exhibit' their work on Social Media
Tja..have a nice day though ;)
What camera is he using? And I’m not talking about kodiak one.
I think it’s contax g2
Its a Leica M6 but he has a contax flash mounted on the Leica shoe mount. Lens is probably a 35mm summicron
Joel S thank you young blood
what camera is that around 0:06? Thank you.
some kind of Leica I think, maybe a m262
i believe it's his contax g2
yeah he is into the g2
it's the leica MD
czcams.com/video/N5NwgUg6eYQ/video.html
he's like a real life Yu from love exposure except he doesn't take upskirts (i think)
That mickey picture is fucking good!
Great D
hey would love to get in touch wth you guys i am a photographer from africa in new york
For example compare him to Cohen, Arnold is reeeeally good !!! When Cohen seems sketchy and akward, Arnold Just Seems Normal
Where can I find that picture of Mickey Mouse?
Isn't it illegal? I mean if someone shoot me directely and upload the photo but i dont want him to do this... you can't do things like that in germany, thats why i'm asking
yeah germany sucks, it's legal in america though
No, it's legal
Hi Marco, it is also a question I asked myself. In Europe and Germany it is not allowed. It seems so that in the USA they have an other law basic....
First amendment gives you the right to do it.
actually you can just take portraits on anyone that isnt doing anything embarrassing, even in germany. Shooting analog is the way to go. You cant publish the photos tho and you cant take pictures into buildings
Did he ever got sued?
Younger version of Bruce Gilden
poor mans bruce gilden
if you think this is bruce gilden kind of work you need to look more at bruce gildens work
Bruce Gilden?
First thing I thought of.
oh yes, the only other street photographer in history. tou fucking che.
0:54 perv shot 😂😂
I really don't like this style of photography, I know I'm going to get shot down, but it just feels a bit like spray and pray to me, I like street but more in an Alex Webb, HCB style.
tallaganda83 I feel like this is an inaccurate representation of what street photography really is. It seems as if no thought went into the photos which, to me, gives them less meaning.
Look up HCB's contact sheets. Sometimes he shot an entire roll on one person to get the "decisive moment".
very true, almost every photographer says that you have to shoot a lot of crap to get something good.
I like it but it's a very impulsive way of making photographs which has a lower rate of getting good pictures than thought about street photography
It's more gritty, which is a valid style. it's more about capturing the moment rather than the perfect moment.
a dude with a leica and a flash shooting at peoples faces in the streets of NY, sounds like Bruce Gilden to me..
It's a Contax G2, not a Leica. And Bruce Gilden is way more 'in your face' than this guy.
he's a little ameba in a bigger organism....
he seems kind of like a predator
meh
"don't worry about looking through the finder. Don't worry about doing anything good" "I don't wanna take a great picture" ............ Hipster art logic.
you've totally missed his point. and in the mean time you missed the shot.
Matt Dug Red I know exactly what he is trying to say... And he gets one interesting shot here n there. The rest are just random snaps. It's great he can make a career of walking around just firing his camera in people's faces. But he is definitely no Bruce Gilden.
yeah, well apparently he can. which might make his work worthy of greater consideration than your casual dismissal of 'hipster art logic'.
Matt Dug Red well like any art. It is all subjective I guess. There is no right or wrong. I find genuine human moments interesting. But I don't get that from a photo of a man, mid blink, smoking a cigarette walking down the street. There's nothing there but a mistimed photo of nothing interesting at all.
so all youre saying is this artist's art isnt to your taste. is that really even worth so much as a youtube comment? there are lots of artist who arent to my taste and im also glad they exist, and try to learn something from them, if possible.
How is this any different from the 1000s of photographers who do this work daily? Oh wait he's a white male, so the galleries listen.
ah the victim mentality again.
I hate photographers like this.
The key to street photography is wide angle lens. Without it, your photos will look like shit. Because wide angle doesn’t really require effort to compose. You want to be a good photographer? Use standard lens (50mm) and nothing else.
?
dude wtf are you tryna say?? hahaha
Aditya DWI PUTRA that’s not an argument
If anything, wide-angle lenses are more difficult to compose with because there's a lot more happening in the frame. With a 50mm lens, you don't have as much going on around the edges. It's easier to fit everything in and still have a photograph that works. With wide-angles, it's the complete opposite.
lol. lol!!
Spray and pray, that's not art, it's opportunism. No merit to thought in the capture, ANYONE can do that, stop making stupid people famous
In my opinion, he's famous because only he do that kind of thing. Sure a lot of people can just shoot people randomly like that, but not all have the courage to do it the way he do. You can't easily find photos in the same perspective as his, that's what makes his style unique.
